Chapter 65: An Unexpected Visitor
“What happened?” Ye Feng and Long Tian stumbled out of the room, rubbing their sleepy eyes, and looked at Qing Lang.
“Were you talking about Pearl just now? Where is she?” Ye Feng saw that the door was tightly closed, while Qing Lang was standing behind the sofa.
“She’s on the sofa!” Qing Lang pointed at the sofa.
Ye Feng and Long Tian went around behind the sofa and saw Pearl unconscious on it. She didn’t seem to be in good condition, though there were no obvious wounds on her body. Her continuous unconsciousness, her shirt soaked with sweat, and her rapid breathing all indicated that she wasn’t healthy.
“Was she like this when you last saw her?” Ye Feng reached out to check Pearl’s forehead to see if she had a fever.
“I heard a faint knocking sound earlier. I thought I was still asleep. When I opened the door, she was lying against it… It seemed like she was calling your name…” Qing Lang hadn’t intended to say that last part, but seeing Ye Feng’s serious expression, he had no choice but to speak up.
“She has a fever,” Ye Feng frowned. “It’s probably not caused by illness. Xiao Liu, get me a basin of cold water and a clean towel.”
“Why did she come here? How did she know we were here?” Long Tian was more concerned about this question. Clearly, he didn’t have much goodwill toward Pearl—after all, it was this woman who had cost him many comrades.
“We’ll find out when she wakes up!” Ye Feng held down Long Tian’s clenched fist and shook his head. “From the way she looks, it seems she’s being hunted. It’s likely because she escaped that organization.”
“Through her, we can learn about that organization and avenge Uncle Tie and the others.” Ye Feng’s words gradually calmed Long Tian. Since seeing the woman lying on the sofa, he had been tempted to strangle her to avenge his comrades. He was struggling hard to suppress that urge.
“She might have fled here not because she knew I was here, but because she knew Qing Lang and the others were here. She wants to send a message to me through them,” Ye Feng analyzed. “Anyway, since she’s here now, it means the enemies will arrive soon. Although we don’t know exactly what they want, I’m sure those who are hunting Pearl won’t be friendly to us.”
“To find out who the enemies are, we must wait for this woman to wake up and let her tell us what happened.” Ye Feng proposed what seemed to be the only solution at the moment.
“I’m going back to sleep. Call me if anything happens!” Although Long Tian appeared calm, it was clear he held deep prejudices against the woman before him and didn’t even want to look at her further.
“I don’t understand why Heaven gave her an angelic face and a devilish figure, yet also a heart as cruel as a serpent’s,” Qing Lang commented to Pearl.
“Nature rejects perfection; it is precisely because of imperfections that people progress…” Ye Feng shook his head with a bitter smile.
“Ye Feng…” At that moment, Pearl slowly opened her eyes.
“Qing Lang, help pour some hot water,” Ye Feng said as he helped Pearl up.
“Take your time. Don’t rush. Drink some water first before talking about your matters! You’re very weak now!” Ye Feng had Pearl lean against the sofa, took the water cup from Qing Lang, and brought it to her lips.
“Is it really you?” Pearl’s face showed disbelief.
After drinking a few sips of hot water, her mood calmed down a bit. “Ye Feng, after I left, someone started hunting us… Lao Wei died trying to save me… I’ve been hiding and trying to find out about you these past few days…”
“Who’s hunting you?” Ye Feng frowned upon hearing that Lao Wei was dead.
“It’s my superiors… They know theGu worm worm worm in my body is gone, so they sent people to capture me alive…” At this point, Pearl had completely lost her usual composure; she was like a helpless lamb that had escaped death.
“Capture you alive? Why? Do you have some information that’s important to them?” Ye Feng originally thought they wanted to kill Pearl to silence her, but capturing her alive meant something different.
“It’s because of theGu worm worm worm. Most of the organization’s leaders have it in their bodies. After you removed it for me, they found out. They want to know how it was removed.” Pearl looked at Ye Feng helplessly. “Once captured, I’ll be interrogated for three to five days. After getting all the useful information, they’ll dissect me alive to figure out why theGu worm worm worm was removed. They’re willing to pay any price to do that.”
“I understand. Eat something and rest first! At least for now, this place should be safe.” Ye Feng turned to Qing Lang. “Do you have anything to eat here?”
“There are two pieces of pizza left, from our dinner. They’re cold though. I’ll heat them up in the microwave!” Qing Lang pointed to a paper box on the messy coffee table.
“How did you know I was here?” Although Ye Feng had already guessed the answer, he decided to ask for clarity.
“I tried to find out information about you, but made no progress. So I spent a few more days finding out that Qing Lang was here, intending to have him help contact you. I’m not sure if he’s willing to help or if he can even reach you… I don’t have your phone number either… This was the only method I could think of. And it seems I was quite lucky—you’re actually here!” Pearl said with a smile.
“I just arrived today as well…” Ye Feng shook his head and smiled.
“There’s one more thing. After you helped me remove the curse that day, I was in such a hurry that I forgot to tell you.” Pearl seemed to suddenly remember something, her smile turning slightly stiff.
“What is it?” Seeing her expression, Ye Feng knew it wasn’t good news.
“Do you remember that Zuo Qiu whom you killed?” Pearl looked up at Ye Feng. “His master got in touch with me the day before you removed the curse for me, saying he would come soon to avenge his disciple. According to the agreed date, he should arrive in City H these days…”
“Even though I’m no longer involved, that guy probably won’t give up easily. Zuo Qiu was his only disciple…” Pearl said helplessly. “That guy is very skilled with poisons. You’d better be careful.”
“I know. We’ve already fought once on the plane—he’s a tough opponent…” Ye Feng finally understood what had happened on the plane.
