Chapter 74: Who Is the Killer?!
An hour passed quickly, yet Kevin still hadn’t cracked Yi Fan’s password, and the investigation made no progress at all. The scene had been searched countless times, but unfortunately, there were no clues about what had happened. Aside from the three bodies that had been removed and the bloodstains still on the ground, there were hardly any signs of a struggle. The only explanation was that the three of them were killed before they could resist, so even someone as smart as Yi Fan couldn’t manage to leave any clues.
Ye Feng and the others waited anxiously for Kevin’s results, wanting to know what task had led to this incident.
Kevin’s fingers danced across the keyboard like magical butterflies; Ye Feng could barely see his movements. He muttered under his breath, “Hurry up, hurry up… I’m almost done…”
After pressing the last Enter key, Kevin took his hands off the keyboard and stared fixedly at the computer screen. As the images on the screen began to change, he immediately turned to Hank and the others. “It’s done!”
Ye Feng and the others rushed over to look at the computer screen.
Yi Fan’s task records showed that his last task was the one assigned to Long Tian, with nothing else after that—just a blank space.
“Is this the assigned task you went to China for?” Hank frowned, still not understanding what had happened. “There’s no record here. Maybe someone else took on a private task. Let’s try logging in with another account. Kevin, can you do it now?”
“No need. All our tasks were taken on by Yi Fan. Even if it was a private job, there would be a record with him. We don’t need to hide anything. William trusts us…” Ye Feng shook his head, his gaze fixed blankly on the computer screen.
“So, it was that failed assigned task in China that caused their deaths?” Hank looked at Ye Feng skeptically. “Kevin, try cracking the passwords of other accounts too! Ye Feng, tell me what actually happened with that task. It was just a C-level task—how could three people fail to complete it?”
“That task was given by my subordinate before he died. The task was to protect me!” Long Tian glanced at the silent Ye Feng and took over Hank’s question. “The task wasn’t a failure. It’s just that I seemed dead at the time, so…”
“What exactly happened?” Hank pressed further.
“We encountered a vampire baron… while protecting Brother Dragon… Then I killed that vampire; it must have been his kin taking revenge!” Ye Feng finally realized what had happened.
“I guess you must not understand vampires to say such things!” Hank shook his head after hearing Ye Feng’s words.
“What?” Ye Feng raised his head in confusion and looked at Hank.
“The vampire race is a very proud one. They only unite for their own interests and have no concept of family ties. Even if you killed the only son of a vampire prince, he wouldn’t seek revenge on you—he would think his son died because he wasn’t strong enough. That’s why the second generation of vampires was rebelled against and killed by their descendants. In their world, only the strong are revered. So-called emotions mean nothing to them compared to blood in a goblet.” Hank shook his head with a smile.
“It’s not the vampires’ revenge?” Hearing Hank’s words, Ye Feng felt he might have overthought things, but now he had no clue at all.
“Kevin, did you succeed?” Hank turned to Kevin. “I think we should first check the account information of the others.”
“I’ve already dealt with their captain’s and Christine’s accounts. Kelly’s is still being decrypted! You two take a look at those two first!” Kevin didn’t even turn around. After decrypting Yi Fan’s password, he finally understood how Yi Fan had encrypted it, so decrypting new account passwords wasn’t difficult for him anymore.
Hank first entered William’s account and password. In his opinion, the captain’s account should contain the most information.
But the result displayed on the screen was the same as Yi Fan’s, which left him puzzled. He glanced at Ye Feng beside him, then entered Christine’s account and password again—still the same result.
Hank stared at the screen in silence for a long time before shouting at Kevin, “I need Kelly’s account and password!”
“Her account… someone is logged in…” Kevin turned around, stammering.
“What?” Hank widened his eyes and looked at Kevin. “Can you figure out where she is?”
“I’ll try!” Kevin nodded, his hands flying over the keyboard again.
“I’ll see if she wants to send me something!” Ye Feng logged into his own account, and a new private message appeared on the computer screen.
“Vampire! Run!”
“Elder, she’s logged out there. I only know she’s in Hamilton, Canada; I haven’t had time to check anything else…” Kevin also seemed frustrated.
“She was captured?” Ye Feng’s first reaction was to conclude that. If she had escaped, it would be impossible for her to go that far. If she had run away, it might be possible to leave New York, but even if not in New York, she should be in one of the nearby cities. But Kelly suddenly appearing in Canada could only mean she had been taken away.
“At least she hasn’t been killed—that’s good news!” Hank reassured him. “And we know she still has the freedom to move around. She can even take the time to send you short messages. We also know your guess is correct—the culprit in this incident is a vampire! We know she’s in Canada, so…”
“The password is cracked!” Kevin finally breathed a sigh of relief and opened Kelly’s personal information. Just as Ye Feng had predicted, the last task—rescuing Long Tian!
Ye Feng stared at the large screen in silence for a long time. “I’m going to Canada!”
“This is a serious incident. Let us handle it! The motive behind that vampire’s actions is still unclear. We don’t know what he’ll do when he meets you,” Hank suggested. “At least the Hunter Organization still holds some weight in the eyes of the vampires, and some of them have joined the Hunters.”
“No need. I’ll solve this my way! If I really need help, I’ll contact you then.” Ye Feng stared at Hank coldly.
“I understand!” After staring at Ye Feng for a while, Hank realized he was determined and that any persuasion would be useless. He lowered his head helplessly. “Alright, if you need our help, just ask me directly! But I still have to report this incident to my superiors.”
“I’ll keep an eye on him!” Long Tian nodded at Hank. “Are you sure you don’t want to spar with me? This is the first time I’ve met someone at the Golden Core stage!”
“No need. My abilities are a bit special. To be honest, though I may look like a fighter, I’m not one! I’m more of a Holmes-type, just with a better physique…” Hank refused Long Tian’s challenge without hesitation.
