Chapter 568: Merlin Library
Before Zhu Hong could react, Ye Feng and the others had already appeared outside the Holy City. In fact, Ye Feng only needed to know the general direction and distance to teleport there directly. From their investigations in the small town, they knew exactly how far a transport ship could travel in a day, so it was easy to calculate the distance for two months. Then, using their soul power, they explored in the direction and distance described by Zhu Hong and easily located the Holy City.
Standing at the entrance of the Holy City, Ye Feng and the others were struck by its grandeur—far beyond what their own Cent City could compare to. Even though Cent City was highly modernized, it paled in comparison to this Holy City.
“This is the Holy City,” Zhu Hong said after a moment of shock, quickly introducing it with a smile. He certainly wouldn’t forget what Berent had said. If he could learn even one or two techniques from those eight powerhouses above the Holy Realm among them, it would be immensely beneficial to him. But he didn’t know that not only those eight who had become rulers were above the Holy Realm—everyone else was as well.
Zhu Hong led Ye Feng and the group toward the Holy City. To Ye Feng’s surprise, the guards at the entrance didn’t stop or inspect them.
“The people in that small town before said it wasn’t easy to enter the Holy City, right? Why isn’t anyone stopping us?” It was Zhuge Ling’er who asked the question Ye Feng wanted to know.
“That’s because the main gate of the Holy City has a detection function. If one’s strength isn’t at the level of a Holy King, an alarm will sound when entering the city. At that point, the two guards will intervene, and only by paying enough can one enter,” Zhu Hong explained clearly, though he was puzzled as to where these people came from, as they didn’t even know such basic things. The only explanation was that they were complete old monsters who had been in seclusion for hundreds of millions of years, missing even events like the entire exchange of gates in the seven Holy Lands.
“A Holy King level? The requirement is quite high!” Zhuge Ling’er wasn’t very supportive of excluding the weak.
“The Holy City is large, but its resources are limited. The concentration of spiritual energy here is the highest in all the Fifth Holy Land, so such resources are naturally given priority to the true powerhouses,” Zhu Hong explained.
“In which direction is the Merlin Library?” Ye Feng seemed impatient. “What kind of building is it?”
“Elder Blade Edge, there’s no need to rush. I’ll take you all to a inn first to settle in, and then I’ll take you to Merlin Library.” Zhu Hong clearly knew the Holy City well as well. “Not far ahead, there’s an inn called The Traveler, which has the best reputation among all the Fifth Holy Lands’ inns. I’ve stayed there before and found it quite good. I think you’ll like it too.”
“Then let’s go there!” Ye Feng hadn’t stayed in an inn for a long time either. After arriving in the Divine Realm, he had spent almost all his time in Sent City. Although he was often in the Training Domain or the Absolute Martial Ark, he entered them from the city lord’s mansion.
Once inside the inn, Ye Feng and the others understood why it had such a good reputation. It was an open-style inn with a large area, plenty of outdoor spaces, and all the staff were beautiful women.
After settling in, Zhu Hong finally took Ye Feng, Long Tian, and Long Yue to Merlin Library. Ye Feng and Long Tian wanted to find information about the main plane, while Long Yue simply loved reading, so she followed as well.
After leading the three into Merlin Library, Zhu Hong left quickly, as he had no interest in books at all. Only after successfully bringing everyone to their destination did he breathe a sigh of relief, glad he had fulfilled Master Tai’s trust without any problems.
On the first floor of the library, Ye Feng found a spot to sit cross-legged and released his soul power. In just a few breaths, he memorized all the information on the first floor.
Then his soul power extended to the second floor, and again, in just a few breaths, he recorded the contents of all the books in his mind.
Next came the third floor, the fourth floor… all the way up to the eighth floor.
In fact, each floor had restrictions, but Ye Feng’s powerful soul power made them ineffective. Only those with cultivation at the level of Supreme Saint or above could reach the eighth floor.
After spending some time recording the books on the eighth floor, Ye Feng controlled his soul power to head toward the ninth floor.
But he found himself blocked by a restriction on the outside. After trying for a while and failing to break through, Ye Feng stood up and headed toward the ninth floor.
He ascended to the eighth floor without any hindrance, drawing curious glances from several powerful beings there. They didn’t know when another Supreme Saint-level expert had appeared in the Holy City. But when they saw Ye Feng continuing up the stairs to the eighth floor, their emotions became complicated.
Some were gloatingly convinced that Ye Feng couldn’t reach the ninth floor, some watched his back with envy, while others had dark expressions in their eyes. Ye Feng walked to the end of the stairs and finally saw the physical form of that barrier. He extended a finger toward it but felt a hard membrane blocking his progress. Then he gathered energy in his palm, ready to try again, only to find that the barrier automatically gave way when it encountered the energy within him. Ye Feng was slightly surprised; he extended the energy to his arm, which also passed through the barrier effortlessly. This confirmed his guess—that only those with energy surpassing the Saint realm could enter this barrier. Since the barrier’s activation condition was the presence of energy beyond the Saint realm, Ye Feng’s arm could easily pass through it after being covered in energy. With this conclusion, he abandoned the idea of forcing his way through. Instead, he covered himself in energy and effortlessly penetrated the area guarded by the barrier. The few Supreme Saint-level experts watching from outside immediately showed more favorable expressions—some excited and envious, some observing coldly, some dejected, and some pretending not to see anything… Meanwhile, Ye Feng sat cross-legged quietly on the ninth floor of the deserted Merlin Library, extending his spiritual power outward to browse through the books one by one. After a moment, he let out a surprised exclamation, “What’s going on? Why can’t I read the materials on this floor using my spiritual power?”
