Chapter 328: Wu Ze’s Return
“Whoever stole them, we need the corpses of the Gu Kings now to heal the Great Elder,” Wu Kuang said coldly, staring at the Third Elder’s sad figure.
“If you wish, I can allow you to conduct the interrogation,” the Second Elder said, looking at Wu Kuang and waiting for his reply.
“Better not. Find someone else!” Wu Kuang seemed in a bad mood, not even glancing at the Second Elder as he spoke. “I have no interest in hurting women.”
With that, he left in a huff, his expression dark, while Wu Tian followed behind with a bitter look.
“Brother Dao Feng, do you have any suggestions regarding this matter?” the Second Elder asked, smiling broadly at Ye Feng.
“This is an internal matter of your clan. As an outsider, it’s not appropriate for me to interfere, right?” Ye Feng shirked all responsibility. “How you handle it is your business. I have no opinions. But the Great Elder urgently needs those Gu King corpses for treatment; otherwise, the treatment can’t continue.”
“You’re right. Such things happening in the clan must be embarrassing for Brother Dao Feng as well,” the Second Elder continued smiling. “We’ll try our best to get information from those Gu King corpses through interrogation.”
Ye Feng simply nodded and turned to leave. “Then I’ll wait for good news from you, Second Elder.”
Whether the Third Elder was just a scapegoat or truly involved in this matter, Ye Feng wasn’t sure yet. All he knew was that this matter wasn’t as simple as it seemed on the surface.
Early the next morning, noise could already be heard outside the house.
“What happened?” Ye Feng asked a passerby who seemed excited.
“The clan leader and the others have returned!”
“Weren’t they supposed to be back in a few days?” Ye Feng asked, puzzled.
“I have no idea!” The passerby clearly wasn’t aware of this.
“Where are they now?”
“In the clan leader’s house…”
“Thanks!” Ye Feng rushed off.
Upon arriving at Wu Ze’s house, Ye Feng knocked on the door. It was Wu Ze who opened it.
“I just sent someone to look for you. You came so quickly!” Wu Ze said with a smile.
“Oh, I heard there was a lot of noise outside, so I asked a passerby and found out you’d returned,” Ye Feng replied, nodding.
“Come in. There are a few warriors from our Wu clan. Let me introduce them to you,” Wu Ze said, pulling Ye Feng into his house.
Inside the house, besides Wu Ze, there was one man and two women. The man resembled the Grand Elder somewhat, while the two women seemed to have an aura different from that of the Black Witch clan.
“This is Dao Feng. I invited him here to treat the parasites in our bodies,” Wu Ze introduced Ye Feng to the three of them.
Ye Feng also roughly guessed the identities of the man and the two women.
“Wu Peng, the son of the Grand Elder, and also an outstanding warrior of our Black Witch clan,” Wu Ze said, pointing at the man.
“The two ladies here are beauties from the Dragon clan. The one sitting next to Wu Peng is Wu Peng’s wife, Long Ling, and the one next to her is my elder brother’s wife, Long Xuan,” Wu Ze continued.
“So you’re both my sisters-in-law!” Ye Feng realized they were the mothers of Long Tian and Long Meier.
“The reason we could return earlier this time is also thanks to you two. You successfully reached the divine realm, which greatly increased our speed,” Wu Ze explained.
“I see. I thought it would be another three days before you arrived. It’s better now,” Ye Feng said with a smile. “As for the Grand Elder, we’ve already started treating him, but…”
“But what?” Wu Ze felt a sense of unease upon hearing Ye Feng’s words.
“The corpses of those Gu Kings were stolen!” Ye Feng saw no need to hide this. “From our initial investigation, it’s likely that the third elder is the culprit. The second elder has already ordered her to be detained…”
“What exactly happened? Tell us in detail!” Wu Ze’s expression darkened after hearing this.
Ye Feng recounted the entire incident again, causing Long Xuan and Long Ling beside him to frown.
“Are you sure the culprit is the third elder?” Long Xuan asked first after hearing it.
“That’s what the mirror device showed. However, it’s not ruled out that someone else might have framed her on purpose,” Ye Feng shared his opinion.
“Stealing the corpses of Gu Kings?” Long Ling seemed puzzled. “Isn’t it true that each person in the Black Witch clan can only have one Gu King? What’s the point of stealing their corpses to revive them?”
“Yeah, except for those with special constitutions, each person can only have one Gu King in their body,” Wu Ze nodded. “It seems the culprit wants to steal our Gu Kings for outsiders to use or sell at a high price.”
“There’s another possibility…” Ye Feng continued, building on Wu Ze’s words. “Using them to create synthetic Gu Kings…”
“Synthetic Gu Kings?!” Hearing this, Wu Ze and Wu Peng both looked at him in shock.
“But this has long been lost…” Wu Ze stopped speaking and looked at Ye Feng with disbelief. “Do you know how?”
“It’s said to be lost, but it’s not impossible that someone might know,” Ye Feng said with a smile. “There’s no need to look at me like that. I’ve just come across some related information occasionally.”
“Creating a Gu King is an extremely dangerous task. Generally, once a Gu worm evolves into a Gu King, it can no longer strengthen itself by devouring its own kind—this is something everyone knows,” Ye Feng explained. “But Gu Kings can actually devour each other as well. However, this kind of devouring requires strong willpower, and there’s a high chance of being devoured in return. Once successful, the Gu King’s strength increases significantly, and it gains new abilities.”
“Stealing a Gu King’s corpse, reviving it, and then devouring it while it’s still weak after revival can greatly reduce the risk of one’s own Gu King being devoured,” Ye Feng explained.
“Indeed, whatever it is, there’s always a period of weakness after revival,” Wu Ze nodded. “By your reasoning, the killer’s motive could very well be to strengthen their own power.”
“That’s possible!” Ye Feng nodded. “But no matter what their goal is, guessing here is useless. We need to spend time investigating this matter.”
Just then, there was a knocking at the door.
“They’re here!” Wu Ze looked up at the door. “Perfect, we can discuss this thoroughly.”
