Chapter 313: The Black Witch Clan Meeting
Seeing everyone look troubled after Wu Ze spoke, Ye Feng realized what Wu Ze had told him earlier was likely true.
“I’ll go back to my room first,” Ye Feng said. Knowing he was an outsider, he figured it might be awkward for them to talk to him, so he made an excuse to avoid the situation.
“It’s okay, Brother Blade. Come to the meeting later too,” Wu Ze replied with a smile, shaking his head. “After all, it was you who came up with this method. I’m not exactly sure how to carry it out. If they have any questions, it’s better to ask you directly.”
“If it’s inconvenient for you, I think it’s better if you ask me after the meeting ends,” Ye Feng said. He still wasn’t keen on attending such a family-like gathering, as he was an outsider after all.
“It’s fine. You were the one who suggested a solution, so it’s better if you’re here. Besides, this meeting is originally between doctors and patients. Without you as the doctor, it won’t be very effective even if all of us patients get together,” the man in golden armor said cheerfully.
“Uh… then I’ll follow your advice!” Ye Feng felt a little relieved since they didn’t seem offended.
“Let’s not waste time either,” Wu Ze said, glancing at Ye Feng, who looked uneasy. “Let’s head to the meeting room now and decide on this matter. The sooner we decide, the faster Brother Blade can cure us and relieve our crisis.”
“How confident are you that that method will work?” It was the Second Elder who asked, still expressionless, as if it wasn’t him who posed the question.
“If everything is prepared properly, there’s about an 80% chance of success!” Ye Feng didn’t claim 100% certainty; 80% was a conservative estimate. After all, what was written in books was just theoretical, and what would happen in practice was unpredictable.
“Alright, I’ll go back to my room first and come to the meeting hall right away,” the Second Elder said, ignoring the others and leaving straight away.
“I’ll go change my clothes too!” The Third Elder, with a cold expression, left without a word.
Wu Ze didn’t say much more. He turned to Ye Feng and said, “Let’s head to the meeting hall first. They’ll be here soon.”
Ye Feng nodded and followed Wu Ze away.
The young man in golden armor walked up to Ye Feng excitedly, “Can you really cure us?”
“Mm.” Ye Feng nodded. “It should be fine!”
The group stopped in front of the conference hall. This hall was about the same size as other buildings and appeared rather simple. Ye Feng had originally thought such a building would be a bit more luxurious, but now it seemed no different from an ordinary residence.
Wu Ze led the three of them into the conference hall. Standing at the entrance, Ye Feng was stunned. “This…”
The interior of the conference hall was completely different from the ordinary residence he had seen outside. It was a vast space, with rows of seats arranged from top to bottom in a circular hall. In the very center was a small hall, with a gilded round table at its heart.
The overall theme of the hall was gold, with soft yellow lights casting a gentle glow. Although the decorations around were simple, they gave off a grand atmosphere.
“This hall is our conference room. It might look ordinary from the outside, but the inside is completely different,” Wu Ze said with a smile. “The entire hall can accommodate 1,500 people…”
“How is that possible?” Ye Feng was puzzled. “From the outside, it seems only as big as an ordinary residence. How could such a space hold a thousand people?”
“That’s thanks to construction methods left behind by our predecessors,” the young man said proudly. “The rooms are built using special techniques, which greatly expand their usable space. Otherwise, with the size of an ordinary residence, it would be good if it could hold 150 people at most.”
“Like a storage ring?” Ye Feng immediately understood.
“That’s right, only much more complex,” the young man nodded.
Everyone settled in slightly, and the Second Elder and Third Elder also entered the conference hall.
“Now that everyone is here, let’s get started!” Wu Ze glanced at the two of them and cleared his throat.
“After all, we’ve just returned. Chief, you know Mr. Dao Feng’s treatment plan, but we’re still not quite clear about the specifics. So, I think it’s better if he explains the method in detail first,” the Second Elder spoke up first.
“Brother Dao Feng…” Wu Ze looked at Ye Feng awkwardly. He hadn’t expected the Second Elder to challenge Ye Feng right away.
“No problem,” Ye Feng nodded and slowly recounted what he had read in the book.
“It seems feasible…” The man in golden armor frowned slightly and rested his chin in his hand.
“This method does sound good; at least there are no theoretical flaws. I wonder where Mr. Dao Feng learned about this method? It’s something not even mentioned in our Black Witch Clan’s forbidden texts!” The Second Elder raised his doubts again.
“I found it in an ancient book,” Ye Feng said without hiding the truth.
“Could we borrow that ancient book to take a look?” The Second Elder’s request was clearly unreasonable, and Wu Ze frowned upon hearing it.
“Second Elder, Brother Dao Feng is trying to help by showing us the secret books he carries. That doesn’t seem appropriate!” The man in golden armor spoke up to stop him.
“I failed to explain myself clearly. I just wanted to see a certain part of the book; I had no intention of coveting Mr. Dao Feng’s books.” The Second Elder seemed to realize his mistake. “I was indeed too forward.”
“The method proposed by Brother Dao Feng must be fine. Our main issue now is whether to use the Corpse of the Gu King. As the leader of our clan, I can’t make this decision alone, which is why I called everyone here to discuss it,” Wu Ze shifted the topic.
“I believe everyone here understands that the Corpse of the Gu King is a burial object for our Black Witch Clan. To obtain it, we would have to dig up the graves of our ancestors, disturbing their peace,” the Third Elder finally spoke up. “Moreover, clan rules clearly state that we must not reuse any bodies that have already been buried. After all, they brought us countless triumphs in life, and they deserve peace after death.”
“We all know that, and I’ve also discussed this with Brother Dao Feng,” Wu Ze said helplessly. “But there’s no other way now. Besides, my mentor’s condition is worsening by the day. He doesn’t have much time left, and we can’t keep delaying things.”
“I’ve also noticed that my body is growing weaker lately. Every time I use my power, I fall into a brief state of weakness,” the young man in golden armor said, biting his lip.
“Whether it’s the deceased Corpse of the Gu King or our ancestors, we have every reason to preserve their bodies properly,” the Second Elder continued. “If we can’t even protect their bodies and the Corpse of the Gu King, how can we face them after we die?”
“I also think digging up graves is not feasible—it’s disrespectful to the dead, and moreover, this method isn’t guaranteed to succeed. If it fails, we really won’t have the face to meet those ancestors who have passed away.” The third and second elders were on the same side.
“If we vote now, there are two votes in favor and two against?” Wu Ze looked at his brother, who nodded.
Ye Feng glanced doubtfully at the young boy beside him.
“I’m not yet of age, so I don’t have voting rights…” The boy sent a message to Ye Feng, sounding somewhat frustrated.
Only then did Ye Feng realize that only four people could vote at the moment—the sixteen-year-old boy still didn’t have voting rights and could only watch helplessly.
The situation at the scene immediately reached a deadlock.
“May I say something?” Seeing the silence, Ye Feng slowly stood up.
Wu Ze nodded at him.
“It’s this: I heard from the clan leader that among our Black Witch clan, many members voluntarily become hosts for Gu worms after death to continue protecting their clan members.” Ye Feng looked at everyone present. “That must be true, right?”
“All of us in the Black Witch clan are like this. Self-sacrifice isn’t anything; the interests of the clan come first. Besides, those members volunteered—it was no one’s coercion.” Wu Ze nodded.
“Then think about this: if your ancestors in the afterlife knew you were in such a crisis, what do you think they would think? Would they be willing to sacrifice themselves for you living clan members?” Ye Feng continued to guide their thoughts.
Everyone fell silent…
“Suppose you were all deceased Black Witch ancestors, and your living descendants were in such a crisis—what would you think? Would you ignore their fate or hope your clan could survive this crisis?”
“What if your descendants also faced such a crisis and had to dig up your graves to retrieve the Gu kings buried with you for treatment? Would you agree to that?”
“Or do you think your own corpses are more important than the future of your clan?”
Ye Feng’s questions made everyone present ponder deeply. His reverse way of thinking was indeed thought-provoking.
“If I were dead, and the Gu kings buried with me could help the clan’s development, I hope they can use them freely. At least I would be relieved.” The armored boy spoke up first—it was the first time he had spoken in this meeting.
“I agree to their use as well,” the man in golden armor nodded as well.
“Elder Second, Elder Third, what are your thoughts?” Wu Ze took a deep breath before looking at the two of them.
“Alright, I agree, but it’s best if it succeeds!” Elder Third raised his head and glanced at Ye Feng.
“Elder Second?” Seeing Elder Third give in, Wu Ze turned to look at Elder Second beside her.
“You three against one—my opposition won’t help…” Elder Second didn’t say much, just glanced at Ye Feng before making eye contact with Wu Ze.
“Alright, I agree too,” Wu Ze smiled slightly. “That’s settled then!”
