Chapter 214: A Greater Crisis
Although Kastedio didn’t know how Ye Feng had done it, he had indeed succeeded. He could clearly feel that his contract with God had been dissolved, replaced by another extremely powerful and terrifying contract. He didn’t know what that contract was, but he clearly felt that he was different now.
The pair of wings covered in white feathers on his back began to appear uncontrollably, with the feathers falling to the ground one by one and disappearing. He wasn’t panicked; he knew his wings were still there, just in a different form. Instead of the black color resulting from worshipping Satan, they were now colorless and transparent.
At that moment, thunder and lightning flashed in the sky. The light from the lightning shone through the windows of Ye Feng’s room, allowing him and the others to see the shadow of those transparent wings on the ground.
Kastedio, who had previously looked gloomy, now had a serious expression as he looked at Ye Feng devoutly. “I don’t know how you did it, but you really succeeded! From this moment on, you will be my lifelong faith. I will dedicate my life and loyalty to you…”
“Kas, don’t be so serious. Seeing you like this makes me feel even worse than when you were frowning earlier,” Ye Feng joked. “And from now on, just call me BOSS or boss.”
“Okay, BOSS!” Kastedio’s expression remained serious.
“Tell me, what benefits did Su Rui give you that made your organization willing to send someone as skilled as you to kill me?” Ye Feng was puzzled. He roughly knew the price of assassins in the market and didn’t think Su Rui could afford such a high price.
“I don’t know. I didn’t ask! I was lost in thought when Fat contacted me and told me there was a task that Lilith refused to do, so only I could take it on!” Kastedio didn’t consider this a secret.
“Lilith? A scattered immortal?” Ye Feng asked curiously.
“No, Lilith is a demon, a captain under Satan. But she deserted, so like me, her power was weakened.” Kastedio explained about Lilith. “Her current strength is roughly equivalent to that of a fifth-tier scattered immortal in this world, maybe slightly stronger, on par with me.”
“A demon? The kind with horns on their head and tails on their backs?” Ye Feng asked in curiosity.
“No, that’s not right. That’s just one of the forms of those demons,” Cassdio shook his head. “Lilith appears as an eighteen-year-old girl.”
“Why is Lilith unwilling to take missions related to me?” Ye Feng pressed further.
“She likes men…” Cassdio gave an extremely simple answer.
“Uh…” Ye Feng was speechless at this reason. With no other choice, he changed the topic. “Who is that Fat? Your boss?”
“Fat is from the Immortal Realm. He offended a powerful figure there, was pursued, and after suffering heavy losses, fled to this realm. He’s the leader who brought together us homeless people; he’s a good man!” A hint of gratitude flashed in Cassdio’s eyes. “Our organization is called Houmulis, meaning ‘homeless.’ He founded it himself and gave us a place to stay.”
“So, the mission to kill me is Fat’s next task?” Ye Feng frowned. “How strong is he?”
“He rarely takes action himself, but I know he’s stronger than any of us!” Cassdio shook his head.
“What will he do if you fail this mission?” Ye Feng wanted to know the consequences.
“Our missions have never failed!” Cassdio paused briefly. “Because even the tasks we can’t complete, he can solve…”
“So, that guy will come after me personally?” Ye Feng felt uneasy.
“Yes. Last time, Lilith took on a mission to kill a Five Calamity Immortal and failed. It was Fat who stepped in to handle it! Nothing has gone wrong for me yet, but I suppose it will follow the same pattern.” Cassdio nodded.
“Damn that woman! If I had known, I would have killed her right away. Now she’s caused me such trouble!” Ye Feng was frustrated. With his own strength, without the help of two spirit beasts, dealing with a Three Calamity Immortal was already difficult. A Three Calamity Immortal was comparable to the peak of the Mahayana stage, roughly equivalent to the strength of a Shura after being corrupted. Dealing with such an opponent was already at Ye Feng’s limit, not to mention Fat, who was even more terrifying than a Five Calamity Immortal.
“I’ll find a way to make him give up this mission. If he refuses, I’ll stop him from pursuing you!” Cassdio’s gaze was firm. His belief in Ye Feng now surpassed even his former belief in God, thanks also to the Ultimate Repair Right. But one thing was certain: if anyone tried to kill Ye Feng, he would be the first to act against it.
“Cassdio, don’t go at him head-on. You’re no match for him. The only way to stop him is to ensure you don’t get killed!” Ye Feng put forward his demands. “No matter what his strength is, it won’t be that easy for him to kill me! Don’t worry!”
“But I can’t…” This request went against the teachings Cassdio had received since childhood, and he shook his head, wanting to refuse.
“This is an order, Cassdio. You must survive!” Ye Feng stared at Cassdio firmly. “Trust me, I won’t die!”
Only then did Cassdio nod and turn around. “I’m going to find Fatte…”
…
“Cassdio, what did you say? The mission failed? How is that possible?” The fat man’s cheeks trembled with excitement.
“Fatte, I hope you can give up on this mission, for my sake…” Although Cassdio knew his request sounded unreasonable, he had to say it.
“Even if you give me any reason, I won’t give up on this hunt. But I still want to hear what you’re thinking.” Fatte managed to calm himself down.
“Fatte, I’ve given up believing in God…” Cassdio looked at Fatte.
“That’s great! You’ve finally sent that damned God to hell!” Fatte was clearly happy to hear this, but then he felt something was off. “But angels need to have faith to survive… Have you fallen? And what does this have to do with that kid named Blade?”
“I haven’t fallen.” Cassdio unfolded his invisible wings, and a powerful aura emanated from them.
“Your wings… how did they become invisible?” Fatte found this even more strange.
“I’ve taken faith in Mr. Blade. To me, he is everything. He’s the reason I exist…” Cassdio’s expression turned cold. “You can’t lay a hand on him!”
“How is that possible? How did he do it? Even with my strength, I can’t change your contract.” Fatte found this hard to understand.
“I don’t know how he did it. Perhaps it’s fate. Maybe from the start, I was never meant to be an angel who believes in God!” Cassdio’s expression was serious; he didn’t seem to be joking at all.
“Damn it, what exactly did he do to you?” Fat thought this was strange; he believed it was highly likely that Cassiodore had been controlled by some dark spell from Ye Feng. As far as he knew, such contracts couldn’t be broken by ordinary people. He didn’t think that kid named Blade could do it.
“He just used another contract to erase the one between God and me!” Cassiodore revealed what he knew.
“No, I must kill that bastard and restore you to normal! He must have used some dark spell to control your mind!” Fat said, filled with anger.
“Fat, listen. I’m fine. Now I don’t have to serve God or turn into a killing machine. This contract is the best outcome. Angels must have faith, and I chose him. I have no regrets!” Cassiodore placed his hands on Fat’s shoulders.
“Cass, are you sure you’re sober now?” Fat took a deep breath to calm himself down before asking.
“I’m sure. He’s the right choice!” Cassiodore nodded.
“But he’s our target. Cass, if you fail to complete the mission, I’ll have to kill him to finish it for you.” Resignation flashed in Fat’s eyes.
“Abandon the mission. You can’t kill him!” Cassiodore made his request.
Fat shook his head. “No, Cass. We’ve never failed a mission, nor have we given up on any of them. I can’t let Mu Lisi’s reputation be ruined, even because of you.”
“Fat, everything has a first time. Just because we haven’t failed or given up yet doesn’t mean we won’t in the future.” Cassiodore persisted. “If you’re going to act, first get past me!”
“Your strength is still far from mine. Stay put!” Fat said as he struck out with a palm, creating several long cracks in the air. That terrifying palm descended from above Cassiodore’s head and struck him hard.
When he woke up, a blood-red formation was carved on the cracked ground, and Fat was gone. Cassiodore tried to leave but was blocked by an invisible barrier.
“Stop struggling. This is a formation Fat learned in the Immortal Realm. You can’t escape unless he comes back and releases you!” A woman slowly approached Cassiodore, standing outside the formation and smiling.
“Lilith, I need your help…”
