Chapter 213: The Angel Who Lost Faith
Since his last encounter with Su Rui, Ye Feng had been trying to find out anything about her. Unfortunately, she seemed to have vanished without a trace these past days.
On one hand, he wanted to get the necklace pendant around Su Rui’s neck. On the other hand, ever since she left last time, he had felt a vague sense of unease. He couldn’t explain exactly what it was, but he clearly sensed that something bad might happen.
He wasn’t particularly familiar with Su Rui—they had only met twice. Yet Ye Feng knew well enough that she was the kind of person who would stop at nothing to achieve her goals, using any means necessary.
Last time, Su Rui said she wanted to find someone to kill Ye Feng, but he hadn’t taken it too seriously. He knew she wouldn’t give up easily, but he wasn’t sure what she would try next. He planned to wait for her to come after him again and then find a way to get that key.
……
“You agreed to help that crazy woman kill that guy, Daofeng, just for a worthless necklace?” After watching Su Rui leave, a woman behind the fat man couldn’t help but shout. “Are you interested in that girl?”
“We only have two Five Calamities Immortals. Let’s be clear—I refuse to carry out this mission. You’ll have to find another way to convince Kastedio!” The woman, seemingly unconcerned that the fat man was her boss, spoke to him arrogantly.
“Fine, Lilith. I also don’t want you to take on this mission. You’ll mess it up!” the fat man said confidently. “That Daofeng is too handsome. You’ll get lost in those charming big eyes of his and eagerly take his hand to run away with him…”
“How do you know that…” Lilith stared at the fat man with wide eyes.
“The night after you watched his battle footage, you talked in your sleep all night…” The fat man winked at her.
“And yet you still took on this mission!” Lilith was furious.
“Do you know what this is?” The fat man took out the necklace from the ring.
“That crazy woman’s necklace!” Lilith snapped.
“I’m talking about this pendant. Take a closer look!” The fat man lifted the end of the necklace, covering everything but the pendant.
“This… you think it’s the key to a treasure?” Lilith stared at the pendant for a long time; clearly, she had also heard about it.
“It’s not suspicion; it’s certainty!” the fat man shook his head and laughed. “We’re not just in the killing business—we also do item hunting. A long time ago, several major factions asked me to pay attention to this item, so I’ve studied a lot of related information. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was real!”
“You’re not planning to go yourself, are you?” Lilith crossed her arms, waiting for the fat man’s reply.
“Don’t worry, I’m not going to get involved in this mess!” the fat man said with a sly smile. “Fortunately, there are several buyers, and this item can definitely fetch a good price—no less than that of a Blade’s head. Are you sure you don’t want to take on this task?”
“I like that kid named Blade, you know!” Lilith shook her head. “I don’t want to hurt him. Let’s find Kas instead!”
“Alright.” The fat man took out a communicator from his ring. After connecting, he asked eagerly, “Hey, little Kas, what are you doing right now?”
“Meditating!” came a deep and slow voice from the other end.
“Okay, I have a task here that might require you to interrupt your meditation for a bit!” The fat man rolled his eyes, thankfully unseen on the other end. “What is it?” The voice remained deep and slow.
“Kill someone!”
“Who?”
“His name is Blade. He’s on the planet Agri right now, at the late stage of the Tribulation phase. His strength is comparable to that of a Second Tribulation Immortal, or even a Third Tribulation Immortal. He also has two spiritual beasts, both at the Tribulation phase, with strength on par with that of a Mahayana stage. He’s a really handsome guy, which is why Lilith doesn’t want to hurt him,” the fat man explained.
“Alright, I’ll take on this task!” When he heard this reply, the fat man was clearly stunned. He didn’t expect the other party to agree so easily.
“Good. Then I’ll send you his appearance and footage of his battles for your reference. Let me know once you’ve completed the task. It shouldn’t be hard, right?” The fat man tried to make his voice as gentle as possible. “Kas, are you okay?”
“He has those days every month… you know…” Lilith winked at the fat man without any hesitation.
“Alright, little Kas, don’t die on this mission!” The fat man sighed helplessly before hanging up the communicator.
…
It was a fine day. While Ye Feng was having breakfast in his room, he suddenly sensed a warning sign.
With a quick step forward, a swift white light flashed past where he had been sitting. Ye Feng glanced around warily. The opponent had chosen to attack him in broad daylight, which he hadn’t expected at all.
“Boss, the opponent is a light-type cultivator. These guys have extremely fast attack speeds and are very tricky!” Bernard transmitted to Ye Feng.
At that moment, a man with a worried expression slowly entered Ye Feng’s room. He had deep blue eyes filled with a hint of melancholy, messy dark red hair, and a beard that gave him a disheveled look, as if he had just been dumped by a woman.
“Hey, do I know you?” Ye Feng couldn’t recall where he had met this man, who had attacked him without saying a word.
“You’re Dao Feng, my target for today’s mission!” The man slightly raised his head to look at Ye Feng.
“Mission target? Are you a killer?” Ye Feng immediately realized it. He hadn’t expected Su Rui to go to such lengths to kill him, even hiring a killer.
“Be careful—he said Xiao Yu is very strong!” Bernard said while watching the opponent carefully and transmitting to Ye Feng.
“My name is Kastedio. My mission is to kill Dao Feng,” the man said bluntly.
“Kastedio?!” Ye Feng remembered having heard this name somewhere. “I seem to have heard of you!”
“You’re… that angel?” Ye Feng suddenly remembered. The man was an angel who had stayed in the cultivation world after losing most of his power. He had heard this name in a tavern before. Now, he was one of the top killers in the entire cultivation world.
“You know me?” Kastedio was clearly surprised that Ye Feng had heard of him.
“You don’t seem quite like the legend describes!” Ye Feng laughed. The man now looked worried, with his eyebrows drooping, his face resembling the character for “embarrassment.”
“What does the legend say?” Kastedio asked curiously.
“The legend says Kastedio is a man with a serious expression,” Ye Feng said with an even wider smile. “But right now, you don’t seem serious—you seem sad. That’s the expression that appears after being dumped by a hundred women in a row.”
“She abandoned me…” Kastedio’s expression grew even sadder.
“Hey, did I guess right? Who was that woman?” Ye Feng teased.
“God, she abandoned me…” Kastedio stared at Ye Feng blankly.
“Uh… God…” Ye Feng was momentarily speechless. He knew angels were fanatics, but he hadn’t expected this guy to be like this. “Find a woman. That way, you’ll soon forget God…”
“No, that won’t work… Angels need faith to survive… I’ve already lost my faith… I doubted God, and that’s why I was cast out… I no longer have a reason to exist…” Kastedio still shook his head with vacant eyes.
“You need faith?” A glint appeared in Ye Feng’s eyes.
Kastedio nodded.
“Change your faith. Your God no longer wants you…” Ye Feng continued to tempt him.
“If I don’t believe in God, do you expect me to believe in Satan?” Kastedio shook his head. “Satan is a devil; he only brings disaster and pain… Fallen angels become mindless killing machines. I don’t want to become that…”
“Believe in me!” Ye Feng stepped closer to Kastedio. “I’m not God, nor am I Satan. I won’t spread any gospel, nor will I bring disaster. But I can assure you—I won’t abandon you like your God will…”
A flicker of color finally appeared in Kastedio’s eyes, but it vanished instantly. He shook his head. “My contract with God remains intact. You’re weaker than God, and the power of the contract isn’t strong enough… Our contract won’t succeed…”
“Trust me!” Ye Feng stepped in front of Kastedio, wearing a confident smile. “I can replace your God. All I need is your affirmative answer!”
Looking into Ye Feng’s determined and confident eyes, Kastedio unconsciously nodded.
“From today on, let God go to hell!” Ye Feng placed his right hand on Kastedio’s forehead.
“One ultimate repair right used. 2 ultimate repair rights remaining…” A dialog box appeared before Ye Feng’s eyes.
