Chapter 015: The Crystal Wall
Seeing doubt appear on Du Fan and Ringo’s faces at the same time, Gannon smiled faintly and continued, “Do you want to know what this prophecy really means?”
Du Fan snorted and said, “No!”
However, Ringo’s body began to tremble slightly. She stared at Gannon and said slowly, “Could it be… perhaps… the prophecy is referring to this very moment…”
Gannon laughed heartily. “As expected from my student, Ringo. I think you’ve already guessed what I’m trying to do. Look, what you’re about to witness is the greatest moment ever… Be sure not to blink… If you miss it, you’ll never get another chance!”
Ringo’s expression changed drastically. “You can’t! You shouldn’t do this!”
Gannon smiled faintly. “What can’t I do? I’ve planned this for years just for this moment. Anyone who tries to stop me will die! Ringo, if it weren’t for all these years of kindness, I would have killed you long ago. Don’t be so ungrateful, right?”
Ringo’s face grew even paler.
Du Fan couldn’t help but ask, “Ringo, what exactly is he going to do?”
Eager and trembling, Ringo replied, “Don’t you understand? He’s… he’s about to lift the seal! Both the Temple of the Demon God and the Gate of the Abyss will be opened… Stop him quickly… Otherwise, it will be too late!”
Du Fan was stunned for a moment, then couldn’t help but sigh bitterly. He had never taken that so-called prophecy of the Demon God seriously. What was the meaning of Roland’s winter or the chaotic game of power to someone who didn’t even know if they’d see the sun the next day?
So Du Fan could only sigh.
By now, Gannon had slowly walked to the steps of the Temple of the Demon God. Staring at the temple ahead, he suddenly pointed his finger in front of him, creating ripples in the air like water waves—signs that the Crystal Wall had been touched.
Gazing at the faint light, he took a deep breath, raised his hands high, and finally spoke aloud:
“An era of millennia-long imprisonment is about to end…”
He gave a slight nod with his right hand, and a beam of holy light shot from his fingertips, drawing a strange rune on the Crystal Wall of the Temple of the Demon God.
“Beings from other worlds herald a brand-new beginning…”
Gannon waved his hand lightly again, and Du Fan felt a gust of wind sweep him up and slam him against the crystal wall, after which he crashed down violently. Unprepared, Du Fan spat out more blood. He wanted to curse, but when he looked up at Gannon, he was stunned.
At that moment, Gannon slowly rose from the ground. His jade-like face had turned an eerie, translucent white—his veins and bones beneath the skin could be seen clearly, as if his flesh had vanished entirely.
“Roland’s winter has finally arrived; the game of chaos is about to begin…”
Gannon waved his hands once more, and this time Du Fan’s body was pulled violently into the air, suspended there as if frozen.
Du Fan couldn’t help but roar, “Gannon! What exactly are you doing?”
Gannon merely gave Du Fan a casual glance, remaining silent, as he continued, “The blood of other worlds, the souls of angels—everything will ultimately return to nothingness…”
After saying that, he tapped his fingers twice. Du Fan felt a pain in his forehead, and a drop of blood slid out. Then Gannon turned his left hand slightly, and the glow containing Spalitis’s soul along with Du Fan’s drop of blood hovered in the air. With a hum, Du Fan’s body crashed to the ground. At the same time, the glow and the blood shot toward the crystal wall, followed by a soft sound, like crystal breaking…
As the glow and blood approached, the crystal wall slowly cracked into pieces like shattered glass. Although the statues atop the Demon God Temple still shone brightly, it was clear that this last layer of protection had vanished.
Gannon slowly descended to the ground. He reached out into the void and retrieved Spalitis’s soul once again. As for Du Fan’s drop of blood, who knows where it went!
Holding Spalitis’s soul, Gannon smiled faintly, as if talking to himself or to Spalitis, saying softly, “See? This is the only way to break this final seal… How could the wisdom of the Demon God be understood by a mere desire angel? What secrets can your little schemes hide?”
“Lord Gannon…” Du Fan slowly stood up from the ground. Though he had regained some strength, it was absolutely impossible for him to fight. “No matter what, it seems you’ve already achieved your goal. So, may I leave now?”
Gannon glanced at Du Fan and smiled. “Young Master Du Fan, since things have come to this, why don’t you come in with me? And you, Ringtone—don’t you want to try and see if there’s any chance to stop me from awakening the Demon God? Your tribe’s fate is to guard this Demon God Temple… Oh, you call it the Gate of the Abyss, right?”
“Very well…” Gannon said indifferently. “You two, come in with me!”
With that, Gannon slowly stepped onto the steps in front of the Demon God Temple, his gaze becoming distant.
Ringtone didn’t need to be told twice and followed him. Du Fan hesitated for a moment, then forced a wry smile and followed as well. It wasn’t that he was fearless and eager to uncover some secret, but at this point, even if he tried to run away, it would be suicide. It was better to just go in and see what would happen.
As he walked, Du Fan looked at the giant marble columns on both sides of the stairs, covered in inscrutable symbols he couldn’t understand at all.
Gannon seemed to notice Du Fan’s gaze. For some reason, he turned back and glanced at him, saying indifferently, “These are twenty-four stone columns recording the deeds of the twenty-four archangels who served the Demon God in the past. Of course, both Spalitis and I are also recorded here. Every time we arrive in a new realm, another circle of runes appears on these columns… But now, all of this is meaningless! Of the twenty-four angels… only I remain.”
At these words, Gannon’s voice sounded somewhat desolate, but he seemed to realize something himself. After saying that, he stopped talking and quickened his pace.
The ninety-nine steps were covered in no time, and a large, exquisite marble door appeared before the three of them. Strange runes were carved on both sides of the door, and a holy light emanated from within, making it impossible to see what was inside.
Ringtone’s expression turned extremely grim. Suddenly, she screamed and pointed at the door, shouting, “I know this place! I know it! This is the Gate of the Abyss!”
Du Fan glanced back at Ringo. The fear on her face was no longer concealed, and her body had begun to tremble violently.
Du Fan sighed inwardly but stepped forward to support her, shaking his head and saying, “This isn’t the Gate of the Abyss. You don’t have to act like this!”
Ringo slowly shook her head, her face filled with disbelief. Du Fan knew there was nothing to say at this moment; the only thing to do was hold her steady so she wouldn’t collapse.
Unexpectedly, Gan Nong turned to look at Ringo and said, “You’re right. This place is indeed the so-called Gate of the Abyss… After all, the Demon God himself said that ten thousand years of imprisonment will eventually end, and everything will return to nothingness… If that’s the case, what does it matter if we treat this gate of the Demon God’s temple as an entrance to the abyss?”
With that, Gan Nong smiled again and said, “By the way, I forgot one thing. In your Kara people’s legends, the Gate of the Abyss should look just like this, right? Yet I’ve always forbidden you from seeing such things, and yet you sneaked a peek behind my back? What an unruly student!”
As he spoke, Gan Nong walked up to the gate. With a slight pull of his hands, it seemed he forced a path open through the radiant holy light. Then, he made a gesture with his hands before stepping aside…
Everyone understood what that meant—it was an invitation for them to go first.
Du Fan smiled bitterly inwardly. He knew this was likely because Gan Nong was cautious, fearing there might be traps inside, so he wanted him to go in and test it out. Although he wanted to refuse, how could he refuse given Gan Nong’s mocking expression?
Filled with frustration, Du Fan slowly took a few steps forward, releasing his hold on Ringo, and then stepped in front of the stone gate, taking a slow step forward.
Soon, his body merged into the holy light. His feet were about to touch the ground of the Demon God’s temple, but suddenly, Du Fan felt a strange sensation…
It was as if he were standing on the edge of a towering cliff, and taking one step forward would mean falling into nothingness, plummeting from great heights…
