Chapter 009: Ignorance

Sparitis slowly retracted the Desire Angel Battle Spear in his hand. The cold smile on his lips vanished abruptly as he stared in confusion at what lay before him. The crystal wall above the Demon God Temple should have shattered into pieces with his mere strike. Having spent years in the heavens, his knowledge of such basic crystal walls far surpassed that of anyone else. Yet he never expected to fail today!
What’s more, the crack he created suddenly expanded several times over. Sparitis’ heart tightened as if he had thought of the most unlikely possibility. Gently stroking the Desire Angel Battle Spear in his hand, he murmured, “No way… Could Toronus truly possess the power to tear through space?”
As soon as he finished speaking, the pitch-black crack trembled suddenly, and multicolored light shone through it, blazing brightly once more. When the light faded, three figures appeared before his eyes.
Sparitis’ expression changed slightly. He gripped the Desire Angel Battle Spear tightly, realizing he was sweating profusely for some unknown reason.
When he saw who they were clearly, Sparitis couldn’t help but take a deep breath. With a snort, he said, “You’re still alive?”
Gannon slowly stepped forward from behind Du Fan. Under Sparitis’ overwhelming pressure, he barely had the strength to resist. Fortunately, he still had some mental strength, which allowed him to avoid collapsing under Sparitis’ dominance. Finally, Gannon smiled faintly and said, “Sparitis, I’m afraid you’re disappointed. Though the Fang of the Abyss is an ancient artifact, you’re still far too weak. If you could master its powers proficiently, how could I possibly be your opponent? Sparitis! Since you can’t kill me… then with my appearance now, your desires and ambitions will likely never be fulfilled!”
Sparitis gave Gannon a deep look and said, “Lord Toronus, your angelic power has completely vanished. Although I’m also severely injured, do you really think I’m not still your opponent? Or are you relying on these two humans…”

At this point, Spalitis glanced at Du Fan and Ringo, a flash of surprise in his eyes. He couldn’t help but say, “Toronus, I didn’t expect you to actually have some courage. You’ve transferred all your angelic power to this mortal. Although, given my current situation, he does have a chance of dealing with me, Lord Toronus, don’t you realize the consequences of what you’ve done? In just a few days, your body will rot, and this mortal probably won’t be able to bear such immense angelic power either.”

Gannon smiled faintly but stepped back a few paces. “Well, how can we know unless we try? Lord Spalitis… you’d better take this seriously. If you lose to a mortal, you’ll surely lose face as the Angel of Desire!”

After saying that, Gannon acted as if what happened next had nothing to do with him and quickly retreated. Unexpectedly, despite his weakened strength, he managed to reach the other side of the platform in no time. His voice came from afar, “Young Master Du Fan, I leave the rest to you. My old bones can’t take much more strain! And you, little Ringo, come here too. Otherwise, huhHmm…”

Ringo responded and ran over without hesitation. All that was left was Du Fan, standing there in a rather embarrassed state. He touched his nose, his gaze somewhat unfocused. But after a moment, he stared at Spalitis and said, “This must be Lord Spalitis, the Angel of Desire?”

Spalitis glanced at Du Fan and sneered, “Human, though you’re not a pawn of this world, in my eyes, you’re still nothing but trash. So? Do you really intend to follow Toronus’s orders and fight me, or are you planning to just walk away?”

Du Fan smiled faintly and said, “If I were to leave, would Lord Spalitis let me go?”

Spalitis hesitated for a moment, then took a breath and said, “If I wish, I can let you go. But before you leave, I’ll erase all your memories, ensuring you forget everything that happened today. Of course, I’ll also nullify your angelic power… If you choose this path, it’s not bad. At least you can save your life. I swear by the name of the Angel of Desire—if you choose this path, you’ll surely be able to leave this Demon God Temple safely!”

Du Fan gave a bitter smile and said, “Well, it seems we’d better give up. I don’t want to have my cultivation ruined and become a worthless person, nor do I want my memories erased and turn me into a fool. It’s really a shame. Lord Spalitis, our deal has already fallen through without even any bargaining. In that case, why not save time and just get started? I suppose you don’t want to waste time arguing with me here either, right?”
Spalitis glanced at Du Fan in surprise and said, “I never expected a mere mortal to have the courage to challenge an angel. Though you’re doomed to die today, out of respect for your bravery, I’ll leave you your intact body. How does that sound?”
Du Fan touched his nose and said, “Then I really must thank Lord Spalitis… But I think it’s very difficult for Lord Spalitis to achieve his long-held wish. Look, you’re already severely injured, but I’m still completely unharmed. Right?”
As he spoke, Du Fan glanced around the platform, inwardly smiling bitterly. He still hadn’t seen the pond Ganon had mentioned, but his situation had become even clearer. Even without the chance to bathe in the holy water of heaven, he still had to fight!
Du Fan clapped his hands, took out the Phantom Wand and Silver Moon Sword from his storage ring, then slowly cast a few supportive spells on himself.
While Du Fan was doing all this, Spalitis simply watched him with amusement. In his eyes, even if a mortal suddenly gained angelic power, could he really be his opponent? Besides, those low-level spells he used were limited in effect. What if he used hundreds of them at once?
Finally, Du Fan applied the last spell, Swiftness, to himself. He gave Spalitis a deep look and said, “Lord Spalitis, you’re quite generous, just standing there and watching… But I’m sorry. Though you’re very polite, I have no choice but to be blunt…”
As he spoke, Du Fan seemed to smile again. “You might want to remember my name—Du Fan. I’m just a humble human who can send you back to heaven!”
Spalitis sneered and said, “Ignorant!”
“Ignorant?” Du Fan smiled faintly. “I wonder who’s really ignorant now!”

At that moment, something unexpected happened—a faint crimson trace suddenly appeared beside Spalitis. With a sudden gust of wind, a massive column of fire shot into the sky, engulfing Spalitis entirely.

Du Fan touched his nose with one hand, his other hand covered in cold sweat. He had pretended to cast a spell earlier, secretly using the fire elements in the surrounding air to surround Spalitis. Yet even this slight effort generated immense power within the fire column. The only advantage of low-level magic was its short and concise incantations. For higher-level spells, silently attacking an angel was by no means easy.

Within the flames, a figure moved abruptly, followed by a furious roar!

Du Fan sighed lightly. “Lord Spalitis, I know of your strength. How could I prepare such a meager defense for you? Though I am but a humble human, I have gained the power of an angel! Have you forgotten? Often, arrogance is the greatest sin of all!”

As he spoke, Du Fan interlaced his hands and recited a complex series of magical incantations. His phantom wand in his left hand moved gracefully, unleashing dozens of wind blade spells that formed a storm of blades. With the support of the immense power of an angel, Du Fan’s magical energy flowed endlessly, never running out.

Spalitis’s figure grew increasingly blurred. As Du Fan basked in his success, he suddenly heard a long mournful cry, and a holy light shone brightly. Behind Spalitis in the flames, those radiant wings seemed to stretch out again.

At that moment, Du Fan detested any aura of light. Though he was also a priest, he still hated it—the endless purifying power of light would turn all his attacks to nothingness.

Before he could do anything further, a milky-white holy light swallowed up the towering column of fire. Spalitis’s figure reappeared, but dozens of wind blades had already struck him. Without a word, Spalitis raised his Desire Angel Spear to meet the onslaught. The spear moved like a ghost, changing unpredictably through the air—stabs, slashes, cuts, swings…
Each strike was exquisitely precise, hitting right at the tips of the wind blades. Themagic power-infused blows instantly transformed into primal elemental forces. Under these continuous impacts, the last wind blade was finally shattered.

Sparitis’ face turned slightly pale. He involuntarily stepped back and snarled, “Human… are you trying to seek death?”
