Chapter 34: Who Is the True Hero? (3)
“Newman, what are you waiting for?!” After a sharp exclamation, Komer gently bit his own tongue tip. A metallic taste quickly spread throughout his body. Even if Newman activated the Star Magic Matrix, it might not be enough to suppress this Caesar Knight. Komer was certain that this Mr. Caesar still had at least one or two trump cards left unused. Perhaps he wanted to wait until Newman deployed everything before delivering the final blow. But now, Komer had no choice left.
The sky’s light patterns changed, and it seemed as though the entire ground centered around the obelisk trembled slightly. As the light flowed, the entire horizon seemed to rotate and transform. The intense spatial changes caused all matter in that area to move rapidly. Caesar’s gaze also shifted slightly. It was indeed a magic matrix. The shape of the obelisk had already raised his suspicions, and with Noyora and the others warning him to be cautious of the traps in Damolensk Fortress, it seemed things were indeed strange. Star magic was already quite rare, and here it was being activated through a magic matrix—truly remarkable and not ordinary.
A blue-green light column suddenly appeared within the matrix, moving rapidly. The light and shadow seemed to be constantly blocked by the barriers formed by the matrix pillars, causing the accumulated energy to grow stronger and the collision frequency to increase. Soon, the light column entered a solid phase. Along with a slight tremor in the matrix, the blue-green column floated into the air.
Several supporting mages beside Newman were doing their utmost to cast white magic to help him sustain himself. The enormous amount of magic power required made it impossible for Newman to bear the strain of maintaining this ancient magic matrix. Yet, he had no choice but to fight in this battle. Facing Caesar, known as the strongest warrior on the continent, it was a rare opportunity to participate in such a fight.
With a pale face and tired, dull eyes, Newman felt as though his strength and blood were draining rapidly, leaving him barely able to support his own body. The three supporting mages successively cast white magic. In urgent situations, they even tore open two or three magic scrolls at once to boost their own power. Streams of white light flowed into Newman’s body, sustaining his life. Without the support of the mages, the backlash from this ancient magic matrix alone would have been enough to kill Newman several times over.
When the Star Sword finally rose in the matrix, Newman could finally breathe a sigh of relief—the most difficult part had passed. The energy of the Star Sword had entered an irreversible state of solidification. Now, to counter it, aside from confronting it head-on with strength, evasion was almost impossible.
A series of spells were recited by Newman, and the supporting mages also stood up solemnly, joining hands around him in prayer. The energy of the Star Sword gradually began to move, accelerating faster and faster, until it broke free from the constraints of the matrix and shot toward Caesar like a shooting star.
The ferocious energy of the Star Sword swept past, seemingly absorbing all the air around it. The edges took on a strange bluish-black hue, and strange hissing sounds came from the air gaps—signs of a changing force field.
For the first time, Caesar showed a solemn expression. This was no mere illusion; it was a truly deadly force. Even if one managed to avoid this sweeping energy, the spatial rift it created was enough to drive one mad. Anyone who dared underestimate it would be utterly destroyed.
For the first time, Caesar moved on his own. His strong body moved lightly as if a butterfly in flight, spinning gracefully through the air to dodge that devastating strike.
Newman smiled slightly. When the opponent moved, he knew he was trapped. As long as the opponent’s movement caused changes in the spatial force field, the sword energy would follow those changes and pursue automatically. Clearly, the opponent lacked experience dealing with this tactic. His movements altered the spatial force field, giving the sword energy a continuous source of power, allowing it to track and attack endlessly until its energy ran out—something that required the opponent to completely disappear from that spatial field. Unless the opponent could use his own strength to break through the Star Sword energy, but how could one single person overcome the power of an entire magic matrix? At least Newman had never seen or heard of anyone with such power.
Komer, however, wasn’t as confident as Newman. By the time Caesar moved, he had already prepared himself.
His face turned pale blue in an instant, then quickly red. His trembling body indicated that Komer was suffering immense pain.
A series of misty black flames continuously surged from Komer’s body, gathering rapidly above his head. The pitch-black fog grew denser and darker, taking on an eerie brightness. Finally, when that brightness suddenly erupted, strands of lightning burst forth from the fog, with arc-shaped chains of fire shooting out intermittently in all directions, appearing exceptionally dazzling.
“Demonic Soul Devourer?!” Even Caesar, who had always remained calm—even the power of the Star Sword Qi hadn’t scared him—was visibly shaken by this move, which clearly surpassed his imagination of the Demonic Soul Devourer.
“Lord Caesar, this isn’t an ordinary Demonic Soul Devourer. This guy has fully merged the primordial darkness with mental energy, and even mixed in the ultimate spell of lightning magic—Ultimate Gate! Be careful. Compared to the last time when Lorenzo and I threw him into a spatial rift, his magical power has improved significantly. You must be extremely vigilant!”
Noyora’s voice came from afar. Even during his battle with Rebril, he had been carefully monitoring the situation here. If Caesar were to fail, it would mean the end of the entire battle. Komer’s thorough preparation and extraordinary performance made Noyora feel uncertain for the first time—this battle was truly too perilous.
“Demonic Soul Devourer combined with Ultimate Gate?!” Although Caesar wasn’t very familiar with the details of magic, he knew that the Demonic Soul Devourer was a blend of dark magic and mental magic. If that was combined with the pinnacle of lightning magic—Ultimate Gate—it meant this guy had rewritten history. No magician had ever managed to combine magic from three realms before; this was a historic breakthrough! Unfortunately, the experiment had fallen on him!
