Chapter 55: The Burning Starry Sky, Section 6
That’s right—self-destruction!!
That massive fireball, akin to a small sun, was all too familiar. Not a single person present could fail to recognize its meaning. Such intense chain reactions and terrifying power—only a warship’s self-destruction could produce such effects. No wonder those two Snake Teeth ships were destroyed instantly without even a chance to dodge. The energy from a warship’s self-destruction was beyond their armor’s capacity to withstand.
With current technology, a warship must include living quarters, combat areas, production zones, work areas, command centers, storage areas, and various specialized functions. Its scale is comparable to that of a city. Naturally, such a massive warship requires an enormous amount of energy. When this energy is released in an instant, its destructive power is akin to that of an asteroid impact.
At present, with Snake Teeth’ defensive capabilities, even being directly hit by a Moor giant ship’s main cannon wouldn’t pose a fatal threat. But if caught in the self-destruction of just one Moor giant ship, there would only be one outcome: certain death!
Yet, in the past, no one would have believed anyone would sacrifice the self-destruction of a warship just to destroy a Snake Teeth ship. This wasn’t even a fight on equal terms. A Snake Teeth ship, no matter how advanced, was merely a mech, with at most one pilot aboard. What about a warship? It was a steel fortress as large as a city. In terms of value alone, it was countless times greater than a Snake Teeth ship. Not to mention the lives of thousands of crew members. Only a fool would engage in such a losing deal.
What had happened to the people of the Moor Empire? Had they gone mad from seeing the situation turn unfavorable?
For a moment, the warriors on the black-haired fleet in the rear were shocked, unable to believe their eyes.
But whether they believed it or not, the fact was already set in motion. The Moor Empire had indeed sacrificed the self-destruction of two Moor giant ships to destroy two Snake Teeth ships, regardless of whether the values were equal. Such behavior was nothing short of madness. Before anyone could react, two more Moor giant ships exploded under the attack of Snake Teeth ships. Amidst the deafening explosions, another sun-like fireball appeared before everyone’s eyes. The two Snake Teeth ships, which had previously held the upper hand, also couldn’t escape.
Everyone understood at that moment. The self-destruction just now was definitely not accidental—it was a deliberate act by the Moor fleet. It was unclear what kind of madman their commander was, willing to pay such a high price for victory. Even if he managed to defeat the Black-Haired fleet, he would have to bear a terrible, devastating cost that could shake the foundations of the Moor Empire!!
What a ruthless guy!!
This thought arose simultaneously in the minds of all the Blood Wolf warriors, filling them with horror at their enemy’s commander.
Perhaps in terms of combat capability alone, the number of Snake Teeth under the Black-Haired’s control was already enough to destroy the Moor fleet. But if the enemy insisted on fighting by self-destruction, the Blood Wolves had no chance of winning. It wasn’t a matter of whether it was worth it—they simply couldn’t afford to lose.
Although the giant ships of the Moor Empire were far more valuable than a single Snake Tooth, the empire was vast and powerful enough to rebuild them instantly even if all were lost. The Black-Haired, however, were different. They were on a long-distance expedition, and their Snake Teeth were limited. Losing one meant losing one forever, with no replacement possible. Thus, they faced another desperate situation.
In any case, they were doomed to die here today!!
The atmosphere in the cabin immediately became oppressive. Watching two Snake Teeth get blown to pieces right in front of everyone, everyone’s eyes turned red. The explosive-tempered Baroka cursed loudly, rolling up his sleeves and ready to go outside.
“What are you doing?” Blood Pupil, who was close to Baroka, grabbed him tightly.
“Damn it! I’m going after those guys,” Baroka snapped, his face fierce. “I’m going to get our Fatso, get him ready, and blow them all to pieces! I don’t believe they can match my self-destruction with their energy-mimicked light beams!”
“Fatso” was Baroka’s nickname for his own power armor, known to everyone.
“Nonsense!!” Blood Pupil panicked immediately, holding Baroka tightly.
“Are you crazy? Don’t you know what’s out there? If your Fatso could still function, I wouldn’t stop you. But right now, he needs to recover. Going out now is asking for death! Don’t forget—probably not a single one of our Wolf Teeth can activate its shield anymore. Not even the lead Ya Zi! Without shields, we’ll be reduced to scrap in less than five minutes if we go out!”
Xue Tong’s words were urgent. Yet there was truth to them. After that forced extraction in the flames earlier, although the Wolf Fang team had managed to withstand the output of the giant shield through collective effort, they needed time to recover due to excessive extraction by Ya Zi and the strain on their native power armor, making it impossible for them to fight right away. Right now, the Wolf Fang team was not even as strong as a Blood Moon Sunset, let alone engage in intense battles. For Baroka to rashly go out was nothing short of seeking death!
It should be noted that native power armor without a shield has terrifyingly low defense. Not to mention the powerful main guns of the Moorish giants—even their close-range defense systems couldn’t withstand a single hit. Instant disappearance would be the best outcome.
So as soon as Xue Tong spoke, silence fell over the cabin. No one had the urge to argue anymore. The facts were clear: as long as the enemy commander could continue with this strategy of inflicting heavy damage on them at the cost of their own forces, none of them would see tomorrow’s sun!
At that moment, the black-haired man, who had remained silent until then, spoke up.
He slowly shook his head and rubbed his temples.
“I have a question that remains unanswered.”
“What question?” Xue Tong was stunned, then overjoyed. If the black-haired man had a question, it meant he hadn’t given up. And as for someone who hadn’t given up, Xue Tong couldn’t think of anything that could stump him.
“Don’t they care about their lives?” The black-haired man glanced at Xue Tong and spoke slowly.
“What?” Xue Tong was dumbfounded. “Isn’t that obvious? If they dare to commit suicide bombing, of course they don’t care about their lives! Are you delirious from fever? The enemy commander’s intention is clear—he wants to use this suicidal tactic to trap us all here. To achieve this goal, he’s willing to accept any loss, including lives!”
“Yes,” the black-haired man nodded. “It’s normal for a commander to have such intentions. After all, he doesn’t need to die. What I mean is, what about those Moorish crew members? And the captains of each Moorish giant ship? Don’t they care about their own lives? Are they willing to die?”
“This?” Xue Tong was utterly baffled. He realized now that the black-haired man had indeed raised a valid question.
Perhaps under the command of the Wolf King with black hair, the warriors under him would indeed dare to sacrifice everything. But it’s hard to say the same for the Moor Empire. Blood Pupil had been to the Moor Empire. In his opinion, although Moor warriors were far superior to ordinary races, they were by no means the kind of fanatics willing to sacrifice everything for victory. After all, people vary greatly in thought—how could they all be determined to die?
Even brainwashing couldn’t achieve that. Yet Blood Pupil remembered how smoothly those four self-destructing giant ships had operated earlier. Clearly, the crew hadn’t hesitated at all. This created a contradiction—a contradiction that defied common sense! Crew members who weren’t willing to sacrifice themselves were piloting giant ships and bravely blowing themselves up against the enemy!
After some thought, Blood Pupil still couldn’t figure it out. In the end, he could only helplessly turn his gaze back to Black Hair.
“Leader, just tell me directly. What’s your plan?”
“My plan… Monkey might know,” Black Hair mused for a while before looking at Monkey, who hadn’t said a word from the start. “Do you think so, Monkey?”
Monkey was frowning, seemingly lost in thought, when suddenly asked by Black Hair. He was taken aback before sighing. “Yes, leader. I’ve also come up with something, but I still can’t believe it.”
“What kind of riddle is this?” Blood Pupil grew impatient. “Whatever it is, just come up with a solution quickly. If we delay any longer, not many of our warriors will be left.”
As if in response to Blood Pupil’s words, two more loud explosions rang out. Two massive Moorian ships turned into balls of fire under everyone’s eyes, devouring two more Snake Tooth ships.
Seeing this, Black Hair and Monkey exchanged a glance, both seeing the surprise in each other’s eyes. After thinking for a moment, Black Hair spoke again. “Two more. This number doesn’t seem like a coincidence.”
“It certainly isn’t,” Monkey nodded. “But I can’t believe he’s still alive. Nor can I believe he’s become our enemy. But aside from him, I really can’t think of anyone who would prefer such methods.”
“I can’t believe it either,” Black Hair replied in a low voice. “But since you’re alive, it’s not surprising that he’s alive too. As for becoming our enemy… Heh… If it weren’t for running into you on that warship by chance, you’d be my enemy now too.”
“What are you two…” Hearing their exchange, Blood Pupil grew even more confused, his face full of bewilderment.
“He’s someone we know,” the black-haired one and Monkey glanced at him and replied in unison. “His name is Grizzly. The self-destruct attack just now was his most common fighting technique—Death Chain!”
