Chapter 7: Saving People (Part 2)
That great sage looked in terrible condition—most of his clothes had burned off, leaving his thighs bare and half of his buttocks exposed. His upper garments were like tattered fishing nets, hanging in pieces on his shoulders. His hair was completely burned away, his skin charred and flesh rotten. One of his arms hung limp, revealing bare bones at his shoulder.
When Guo Shier saw the man’s appearance, he couldn’t help but gasp. How many attacks must he have endured to end up in such a pitiful state?
The Great Golden Armor was even worse off—two pieces of its backplate hung on either side of its body, its pair of translucent wings were covered in wounds, and its shell was speckled with red blood that dripped to the ground with a sizzling sound. The pair of black eyes embedded in its triangular head showed no emotion, like the eyes of a devil intent on devouring all life.
Seals rotated slowly on its shell as the Great Golden Armor tried to regain some strength. Unfortunately, there was no magma here, preventing it from recovering quickly.
The great sage took out several seal pills and put them in his mouth, then used another one to strike his shoulder.
The Great Golden Armor stepped closer slightly, emitting a threatening screeching sound. Being so close, Guo Shier felt his heart shake, so he quickly recited scriptures silently. His palms were drenched in sweat as he tried hard to stabilize the fluctuations in his soul.
The great sage glanced at Guo Shier in surprise, not expecting him to still stand firmly at such close range.
Eagle Demon stood to the side, holding his life-seal sword in one hand and his life-seal shield in the other, his legs trembling slightly. This wasn’t fear but a natural reaction to the immense spiritual pressure from the Great Golden Armor—similar to someone trying to lift something far beyond their strength, feeling on the verge of collapse, not out of fear but due to inability to hold on.
As for Luo Zhan, he couldn’t even stand and sat on the ground, clutching a seal spear tightly while staring intently at the Great Golden Armor. Only now did he realize that some things couldn’t be done just by courage. With such a huge gap in strength, there was nothing he could do. All he could do was use this pressure to strengthen his own soul.
Faced with the spiritual pressure from the Great Golden Armor, both Guo Shier and Eagle Demon felt immense pressure. In fact, as long as they could hold on and control the fluctuations in their souls without being crushed by the opponent, it would be very beneficial for strengthening their own souls.
The great sage spoke in a slow and gentle voice, “I need some time… Try to attack it to distract its attention a bit… Use your Spirit Beast… Don’t attack on your own.” If Guo Shieru launched an attack on his own, as long as the Great Golden Armor fought back, he would basically be finished.
Guo Shieru immediately understood what the man meant. He tried to summon the Giant Perch Dragon, casting spells with both hands. The dragon rushed forward with a rumbling sound, then turned and ran away about a hundred meters away from the Great Golden Armor, leaving Guo Shieru in astonishment. The Dragon actually ignored his commands and voluntarily avoided the Great Golden Armor.
The great sage couldn’t help but let out a chuckle. Two rows of snow-white teeth appeared on his darkened face, and his laughter caused his wound to bleed.
Guo Shieru’s face turned red—this was extremely embarrassing. Then he tried to summon the Dark-Winged Demon Scorpion. The usually obedient scorpion kept stepping back.
The great sage whispered, “Do you have any fast Spirit Insects? No need to give commands to attack; just make them run… that will do…”
Guo Shieru nodded. “Yes!” He still had a Blade Shadow Mantis, but its level was too low, so he hadn’t released it yet. The Blade Shadow Mantis was indeed faster than lightning.
Seeing the released Blade Shadow Mantis, the great sage was extremely surprised. He secretly admired how someone could control so many Spirit Beasts and Spirit Insects—this person’s strength must be on par with that of a junior great sage. He felt slightly encouraged. If Guo Shieru was strong, his chances of survival increased.
The great sage also noticed that neither the Giant Perch Dragon nor the Dark-Winged Demon Scorpion obeyed Guo Shieru’s command spells, indicating that they both possessed sentience and were not low-level Spirit Beasts or Spirit Insects.
Guo Shieru cast a very simple command spell. The Blade Shadow Mantis still lacked sentience; it was still a half-finished creature, so it obeyed Guo Shieru’s command without hesitation. The spell was simple: to make it run around the Great Golden Armor.
The Blade Shadow Mantis immediately started running fast.
Due to this brief delay, the Giant Perch Dragon had already run far away. Guo Shieru cast a spell to force it to return. Although the dragon had run away quickly, when commanded to return, it staggered and slowly made its way back. Even the Eagle Demon couldn’t help but laugh and scold, “This guy… is such a trickster!”
The Blade Shadow Mantis was very obedient; its speed exceeded that of lightning as it darted around the Great Golden Armor arrogantly, successfully drawing its attention. Guo Shier was a bit puzzled, not understanding why the Blade Shadow Mantis wasn’t afraid of the Great Golden Armor’s soul pressure.
The Blade Shadow Mantis flew back and forth recklessly in front of the Great Golden Armor, like a mosquito buzzing incessantly in front of one’s eyes. Finally, the Great Golden Armor became enraged. It turned its head and shot out a red beam.
Although the Blade Shadow Mantis was fast, the red beam was even faster. Fortunately, its instincts were strong—it suddenly flapped its wings and took off. The red beam, which was originally meant to hit its head, landed on its lower body. In an instant, half of its body disappeared, and the Blade Shadow Mantis turned into a mass of spirit.
Seeing this mass of spirit, the Great Golden Armor immediately flew forward. If it could devour this spirit, it could recover some of its injuries, so of course it wouldn’t let it go. But this spirit of the Blade Shadow Mantis wasn’t unowned. Guo Shier cast a spell, and the Blade Shadow Mantis reformed, shooting out like lightning.
Guo Shier knew that the Blade Shadow Mantis was severely weakened and would need time to recover. If it were shattered a few more times, it might never recover.
Seeing that the Great Golden Armor had indeed been distracted, the great sage sat cross-legged and cast thousands of spells with his hands, revealing a spindle-shaped talisman. As he recited the spells, the spindle-shaped talisman became clearer and clearer. Guo Shier couldn’t help but ask softly, “What kind of weapon is this?”
The great sage cast the final spell and spat a mouthful of blood onto the spindle-shaped talisman. He grabbed it and said, “The Heavenly Dragon Thrust!”
At that moment, the Blade Shadow Mantis was shattered again. Guo Shier quickly retracted its spirit, ensuring that the charging Great Golden Armor got nothing. The Great Golden Armor became furious immediately. It turned around and charged at the great sage once more.
The great sage said, “Back off! If you can’t kill it, run away…” In truth, he knew well that if he died in battle, these three wouldn’t be able to escape either.
Guo Shier also understood this. He said, “Since we’re here, if we can’t kill it… we have no way out either!”
The great sage said, “I only have one strike… it depends on luck!”
Guo Shier said, “I’ll attack first!”
The Giant Axe suddenly appeared above the Great Golden Armor. Guo Shier cast the spell, “Trapping Circle!” The Giant Axe transformed into clusters of silver light that descended. In an instant, a freezing coldness spread, and countless ice shards appeared, slowing down the Great Golden Armor’s movements drastically.
A talisman of such extreme coldness as the Giant Axe is perfect for dealing with the Great Golden Armor. Though it can’t inflict damage, it can slow down its speed, which is a huge help to a Great Sage who only has one strike at his disposal. He exclaimed in delight, “Great!” He threw the Dragon Spear into the air and roared, “Destroy!”
The Great Golden Armor let out a shrill scream as a layer of talismanic fire surged across its body, but this fire was dim, for it was already on the verge of collapse.
The Dragon Spear streaked through the air like a meteor. The Great Golden Armor couldn’t dodge it no matter what. Using all its remaining strength, it emitted a red glow toward the Great Sage, but that glow was equally dim.
Guo Shier was overjoyed. This was an excellent opportunity. He cast another spell: “Flying Wheel!” He had originally intended to use the Mountain Pressing spell, but realized that it would likely be difficult to subdue the Great Golden Armor. The Flying Wheel spell, on the other hand, could disrupt it.
The giant axe, shaped like a half-moon, spun rapidly, forming a massive, gleaming axe head radiating icy cold. With the chant, it crashed downward. Even with its formidable body, the Great Golden Armor was struck, causing flames to burst forth and itlet out chaotic cries. The red glow it emitted immediately deviated from its original path.
With this disruption from the Giant Axe, the Dragon Spear seized the opportunity and shot straight at the Great Golden Armor’s mouth.
Crack!
The Dragon Spear instantly pierced through the Great Golden Armor’s mouth and penetrated deep into its body.
The Great Sage was overjoyed—he never expected the Dragon Spear to hit its vital point so quickly. To avoid the Great Golden Armor’s attacks, he used all his strength to teleport away, but due to his severe injuries, he only managed to move less than seven or eight meters before revealing himself again. Unluckily, the red glow emitted by the Great Golden Armor happened to shift in direction, and he collided head-on with it, having no time to dodge.
Guo Shier was stunned, watching helplessly as the red glow severed half of the Great Sage’s body.
Both sides were devastated.
The Great Sage could hardly believe it as he looked down at his missing half. When he raised his head to look at Guo Shier, the light in his eyes gradually dimmed. Muttering, “How is this possible?” he slowly collapsed, falling faceup to the ground. His remaining hand and foot twitched a few times before he lost consciousness completely.
Guo Shier stood there with his mouth wide open, unable to speak for a long time. After a while, he said, “This is insane! How could this happen?”
Eagle Demon and Luo Zhan also stared in shock. The moment the Great Golden Armor was pierced by the Dragon Spear, Luo Zhan was able to stand up. He said, “What kind of luck is this… So unlucky!”
If that great sage had stayed in place, he wouldn’t have been in danger. But by using all his strength to teleport to the side, he happened to end up on the path of the red-ray attack. Without even the ability to activate defenses, how could he avoid it? He was killed on the spot, instantly slain.
Guo Shier smiled bitterly and said, “Forget it. This senior… is really unlucky.”
Eagle Demon said, “Anyway, we survived… and we got a great golden armor! Shier, don’t waste it!”
Guo Shier’s eyes were already fixed on the great golden armor. It was a level-13 mutated golden armor. Even though its soul had been severely damaged and it could no longer craft insect talismans, its essence remained incredibly powerful. This great golden armor was truly a treasure in every sense.
