Chapter 6: The Heavenly Snake Tortoise (Part 2)
Yet the Heavenly Snake Tortoise paid no attention at all and continued to fight fiercely with the Giant Nesting Dragon. Qi Nanshan stared blankly at the holes in its shell and exclaimed in surprise, “How thick is this thing?” He knew right away that the golden spear he had formed from his life sigil blade wouldn’t even be able to pierce through this shell.
Monier sneered and said, “This shell… is at least ten meters thick! The life sigil blade you used just now—converting an illusory sigil into a real one—would take at least a trace of your soul energy. It might manage to pierce seven meters deep, but that’s utterly insignificant.”
Qi Nanshan sighed inwardly and shook his head. “I was just testing it. I didn’t expect it to be this thick. But… the strongest part of the Heavenly Snake Tortoise’s defense is its back. Hehe, if we find its weakness, we should be able to break through its defenses.”
Monier said, “Only you can do it. Neither I nor Xiao Ying can.”
Qi Nanshan had never been afraid of battle. He nodded and said, “Alright, leave it to me! You just help hold it off!” In this regard, he was just like Kuumu—always ready to fight, unashamed, and avoiding battle only if he lacked strength. If that was the case, it wasn’t a matter of courage but of strength.
A hint of admiration flashed in Monier’s eyes as she nodded. “Good. We’ll draw the Heavenly Snake Tortoise’s attention while you attack!” Though she was a woman, her presence was no weaker than that of any manly hero.
Qi Nanshan glanced back and couldn’t help but groan inwardly. This thing was simply too huge—like trying to pierce an elephant with a needle. He didn’t even know where to start.
The enormous size of the Heavenly Snake Tortoise posed a huge challenge to any enemy trying to deal with it. This giant was originally not a land creature but a ruler of the seas. Yet it had a weakness: its breeding season. It needed at least fifty to sixty years to come ashore and lay eggs once. During this time, it couldn’t return to the sea and had to stay put, using its roars to attract other mutated sigil beasts to feed itself. This was also why the Giant Nesting Dragon had fallen for its trap.
Additionally, the Heavenly Snake Tortoise’s slow movement was another weakness. The Giant Nesting Dragon moved swiftly, dodging its attacks time and again. With Guo Shier’s guidance, the Tortoise was at a loss as to what to do. Moreover, it dared not leave its eggs, which gave Qi Nanshan and the others an opportunity.
The Giant Nesting Dragon continued to roar repeatedly but didn’t dare get close, keeping a distance of nearly a thousand meters as it weakly provoked it. It was very frustrated. If not for Guo Shier forcing it to stay, it would have turned around and run or returned straight to the sigil realm.
The Sky Snake Tortoise was equally annoyed. It didn’t dare leave its nesting area, hoping desperately that the Giant Perch Dragon would charge forward regardless of its life. Yet the Dragon refused to come, only roaring repeatedly, which drove it crazy with impatience.
Qi Nan Shan ran forward along the turtle’s shell, thinking of ways to kill this giant creature as he went, but the more he thought, the more at a loss he became. Compared to the Sky Snake Tortoise, he was like an ant on an elephant—the gap between them was enormous.
The Sky Snake Tortoise had few food options. At sea, where food was abundant, it could choose what to eat, but on land, it only consumed high-grade mutated talisman beasts, and it might not even catch one in years. Thus, it refused to let go of the Giant Perch Dragon. Suddenly, its entire body glowed with green talisman light, and countless green shadows flickered across its dark shell.
Guo Shier Two immediately grew nervous and ordered the Giant Perch Dragon to retreat slowly.
The Sky Snake Tortoise ignored Qi Nan Shan, who was as insignificant as an ant, focusing instead on the Giant Perch Dragon. If it could succeed in killing the Dragon, it could go without eating or drinking for over a decade until it finished nesting. Therefore, it would never let this dragon escape.
As the green shadows on the Sky Snake Tortoise flickered, the entire sky lit up, casting a green glow over the land. Yet the murderous intent hidden within made the Giant Perch Dragon even more terrified. Even with Guo Shier Two’s urging, it couldn’t continue to provoke; it could only keep retreating, shrinking smaller and smaller.
Roar!
This was the Sky Snake Tortoise’s true roar—unlike its previous roars, which were meant to lure mutated talisman beasts, this one was completely different. This roar truly displayed the might of a level-10 mutated sea beast.
Qi Nan Shan was rushing toward the Sky Snake Tortoise’s head. That roar made his legs weak, forcing him to stumble before he could continue moving forward. As for Monier and Eagle Demon, they simply collapsed to the ground. Eagle Demon cursed, “Damn it! This thing’s roar makes my whole body weak!”
The Giant Perch Dragon, facing the Sky Snake Tortoise, was even more overwhelmed. It lay flat on the ground, trembling like a shaking sieve, knocking Guo Shier Two from the air onto the ground. He couldn’t help but curse, “What the hell is this… so fierce… No need to fight—just a few roars can kill someone!”
That roar knocked down all the low trees in front of the Sky Snake Tortoise, as if a huge bomb had exploded, with shockwaves sweeping across a wide area.
Guo Shier flew back up, gaining a new understanding of the Heavenly Snake Calamity Turtle. This creature was different from the land dominators; its power seemed even greater. Before he could react, the turtle’s massive head suddenly retracted slightly backward before lunging forward, its mouth wide open. A bright blue light flashed as it sprayed forth.
The Giant Perch Dragon no longer obeyed commands, darting wildly to the left like a rabbit with its tail on fire.
Guo Shier reacted quickly. He clearly felt a tremor in his soul—a sign of extreme danger—and instantly teleported away without hesitation. The moment his figure disappeared, the blue light swept past.
The fan-shaped area in front of the turtle’s head was instantly enveloped in blue light. Despite its incredible speed, the Giant Perch Dragon was also hit by the blue light. In an instant, it turned into a blue ice crystal version of itself, still running around with its claws outstretched. Though reduced in size, it was still over ten meters long, looking extremely bizarre.
Guo Shier teleported to high altitude, looking down in alarm.
Everything illuminated by the blue light turned into ice crystals. He had no idea what the Heavenly Snake Calamity Turtle had sprayed, but it seemed to freeze everything—even the hardest rocks were covered in thick ice. From above, a fan-shaped world of ice crystals formed in front of the turtle’s head.
Guo Shier felt a stir in his heart. He casually cast a spell, and with a crackling sound, the Giant Perch Dragon turned into a mass of spirit energy, which he trapped in a talisman. Guo Shier was heartbroken—the Giant Perch Dragon had lost at least 10% of its spirit energy, reducing its strength by the same amount, which made him shout in anger.
The Heavenly Snake Calamity Turtle was even more furious because it realized its prey had disappeared! As for humans like Guo Shier, it paid no attention at all. To it, these humans were too insignificant, offering no desire to eat them. It roared angrily a few times before slowly retracting its head into its shell.
Guo Shier stared blankly for a while before cursing, “Damn, this is just looking down on people!”
Qi Nanshan rushed to the edge of the turtle’s shell. Seeing the turtle’s huge head retract, he was stunned too. How could they fight now? The Heavenly Snake Calamity Turtle completely ignored them.
The turtle moved slightly before staying still. From a distance, it looked like a huge black rock—never would one guess it was a terrifying level-10 mutated sea beast.
Guo Shier flew over and landed beside Qi Nanshan, asking, “How do we kill it?”
Qi Nan Shan smiled bitterly and said, “I don’t know how to kill it either… This thing is too powerful.”
Monier said, “This must be a mutated sea beast, and a very powerful one at that. It’s equivalent to a level-11 mutated rune beast on land. In the sea, it has the strength of at least a level-12 mutated rune beast. If we were all Grand Sage Masters, we might be able to injure it, but killing it would be extremely difficult. Once it fights back with all its might, we… simply can’t win.”
Eagle Demon asked, “Are we just going to give up?”
Guo Shier thought for a moment before saying, “That doesn’t make sense. If it’s a mutated sea beast, why is it on land?”
Monier replied, “The Sky Snake Calamity Turtle comes ashore for one reason only: to lay eggs. I think this is one such turtle laying eggs. It’s a pity our strength isn’t enough. If we could kill it, we could get its eggs, which are extremely valuable.”
Qi Nan Shan slammed his fist against the extremely hard turtle shell and said with a sigh, “It’s too hard. This thing is too big; none of our attacks can deal serious damage to it. Even if we could, once it runs back into the sea, we’re helpless.”
Guo Shier asked, “Grandpa Nan Shan, can we burn its soul?”
Qi Nan Shan replied, “Of course. Black Rune People can burn the souls of any living being, but the prerequisite is that you must be able to break through its defenses!”
Guo Shier was speechless. The Sky Snake Calamity Turtle had fierce attacks and even more formidable defenses. He guessed that unless it was a master like Chou Mo or Li Ran, no one could deal with this type of mutated sea beast. Maybe masters like Zhu Jiamao and the Demon Lady could kill it. As for Grand Sage Masters, at least hundreds of them would be needed to take down this Sky Snake Calamity Turtle together.
It was then that Guo Shier realized just how powerful his master, Ku Mu, was, and he also understood that even among Sage Masters, there was a huge difference in strength. Of course, even if Ku Mu were here, it would likely be hard for him to deal with the Sky Snake Calamity Turtle. They might be able to handle a level-10 mutated rune beast on land, but a mutated sea beast was a different story.
Guo Shier smiled bitterly and said, “I thought… we’d be enough to take on a level-10 mutated beast.”
Monier laughed and said, “Honey, don’t be discouraged. There’s a big difference even among level-10 mutated beasts—some are easy to deal with, while others are not. Hehe, I know that a few Grand Sage Masters once tried to take on a level-9 mutated rune beast, thinking it would be easy, but they ended up suffering a crushing defeat and even one of them was injured… Anything can happen in a secret realm. Don’t worry; this Sky Snake Calamity Turtle isn’t interested in us.”
Guo Shier nodded. He now understood that rank didn’t mean everything—the cross-rank challenges among professionals were the best example. Take Qi Nanshan, for instance; he had the ability to burn his opponents’ souls, which allowed him to challenge those of higher rank.
Qi Nanshan asked reluctantly, “Do we have to give up?”
Guo Shier flashed a smile of triumph and said, “No!”
