Chapter 250: The Undead Mist
“Well said! This sudden intruder must be dealt with—no matter if it’s a legendary warrior, we now have the strength to defeat them!”
A voice suddenly came from behind the four of them who were discussing the matter.
Without even turning around, Donald and the others knew it was Carlisle, who had been merging his divine essence in a corner of the stone chamber.
“Have you advanced?”
The four turned, and Vincent asked with surprise.
Carlisle, rarely serious, smiled and said, “Living up to everyone’s expectations—I am now a legendary Sword Saint as well!”
“Haha! That’s great! Tell me how it feels to reach that realm and what the process was like.”
The two talked back and forth for the whole meal, with the others listening attentively. All of this was highly valuable learning experience for them.
“Just now, I heard Donald talk about that unknown intruder. I think it’s necessary to eliminate these unstable factors. Donald also mentioned that a magic ship would be crucial for our plan. So I agree we should deal with this variable first, then confront Iron Bell God!”
With the confidence that came from legendary strength, Vincent had no more doubts. The Female Sword Saint agreed to take action, and Uther certainly wouldn’t object.
Thus, Donald’s plan was settled. After discussing it, they decided to wait until that strange pirate ship left Iron Bell Island before intercepting it en route. They also sent summoning creatures to monitor the seas and keep news of Crab Island hidden from the remaining totem gods.
After finalizing the plan, the five patiently waited in their hideout for the strange ship to return. Since they had a year to stay in this world of the Totem Continent, they weren’t bothered by wasting a few days—as long as each of them could take back a fragment of a divine essence, it would be worth it.
They waited for seven or eight days. On the eighth night, movement finally appeared on the pirate ship. The owls and other aquatic summoning creatures watching over it reported the situation to Donald immediately.
None of the five were ordinary people; they could endure ten days or half a month without sleep. Donald immediately teleported his companions to a location ten miles away from Iron Bell Island and used binoculars to look toward the simple port there.
Only two figures were visible at the port; not a single guard or civilian from the Iron Bell tribe was in sight.
A burly man at least seven feet tall, with eagle-like eyes and a wide mouth, wore a sleeveless vest similar to those worn by sailors. His bare, muscular chest was visible beneath the open vest, and his arms bore strange blue-black tattoos. He was smiling as he escorted a shorter figure toward the ships in the harbor.
The shorter figure was completely covered in a black cloak, making it impossible to see their appearance. Yet the burly man, several heads taller than ordinary people, emitted a faint golden glow—clearly he was the master of Iron Bell Island, the guardian of the Iron Bell Tribe: the God of Iron Bell.
With the God of Iron Bell as their escort, it was obvious who the cloaked figure was—undoubtedly the owner of that strange ship.
Before long, the God of Iron Bell finished talking and bidding farewell to the mysterious cloaked figure, who then disappeared from the harbor. At the same time, the pirate ship slowly set sail, turning away from Iron Bell Island’s harbor.
“We should go too!”
Donald carefully controlled his summoned creatures to stay underwater behind the pirate ship, while he sent flying units to circle around the target and reach the area ahead first.
That strange pirate ship was very fast. Once it left the harbor, it accelerated, speeding away from the waters around Iron Bell Island. Its speed was almost on par with Donald’s patrol speedboats from his past life—a truly astonishing speed in a world where shipbuilding technology was relatively backward. Even the powerful warships from his main world, equipped with alchemical and magical acceleration devices, couldn’t match it.
However, the aquatic troops summoned by Donald were all extremely fast in water, so there was no risk of falling behind.
With group teleportation as a cheat, Donald and his group arrived ahead of the pirate ship even earlier, so they weren’t worried about being left behind. Donald could adjust the direction of teleportation based on information from his summoned creatures, teleporting straight ahead every time the strange ship turned.
It was as if the pirate ship was chasing Donald and his group, though the pursuers behind were unaware of it.
Flying in the air faced much less resistance than sailing in water. No matter how fast the pirate ship was, it couldn’t compare to the wind-like speed of horned eagle beasts. As they chased each other, they had already traveled at least two hundred miles away from the waters of Uyu Island, Giant Crab Island, and Iron Bell Island.
Suddenly, through his summoned creatures, Donald noticed that the enemy ship had begun to slow down. He immediately sent an owl back to scout and discovered that the strange pirate ship was entering a gray misty area spanning ten miles in radius.
Donald said softly, “Is this our return to our lair?”
Carlisle smiled and replied, “That would be perfect! Let the enemies disembark first, then we strike. That way, not only will they lose their advantage at sea, but it won’t harm our loot either!” Donald nodded and immediately teleported the four of them to the skies above the outer edge of that sea mist.
At the level of Golden Powerhouses, even swordsmen skilled in physical combat could achieve short-term flight by utilizing a basic application of the superficial laws—though not as sustainably as mages. As for Uther, he had Donald’s flight spell, so he didn’t have to worry about falling into the sea.
Their divine vision quickly identified the nature of the mist—it was clearly a product of negative energy combined with water elements. Their eyes, empowered by the power of true sight, pierced through the mist, allowing them to see clearly what lay within.
“It’s indeed an island?” Donald sneered. Weren’t those legendary pirates all known to use overseas islands as their lairs?
“Well? When are we attacking?” Carlisle asked eagerly. Having just reached the Legendary realm, he was looking for an opportunity to fight a big battle and test his strength!
Donald raised an eyebrow and said, “The mist below is troublesome. Although it contains negative energy that can harm living beings—causing weakness and coldness in ordinary people—it poses no threat to us. But once we break through the mist, it will surely alert whatever’s inside. This island is no simple place!”
“Hm? Is there something wrong?” Vincent and the others couldn’t see what was beneath the mist, so they asked Donald.
“That island below is a natural gathering place for negative energy. Over the years, accumulated negative energy has combined with the water elements at sea, forming the mist outside the island. There are also traces of human spells, which have expanded the area of this necrotic mist and made it more powerful!” The female Sword Saint widened her delicate eyes and asked, “Are you saying there’s a Withered Land down there?”
“That’s right! Not just any Withered Land, but a necrotic island occupied by undead creatures. The enemies we face are the most powerful of these undead beings!”
Hearing about undead creatures, everyone instinctively felt disgust. Just as undead creatures hated living beings, living beings also despised such existence that defied natural laws.
Especially the female Sword Saint, who had a strong sense of justice, couldn’t wait to charge forward and use her sword to eliminate all those undead, allowing those who had lost their lives to return to the earth and rest in peace.
“What should we do?” Vincent asked Donald calmly about the next steps. Initially, they had planned to intercept them at sea, but they never expected the enemy to have such a stronghold, and moreover, the enemies were undead.
Donald smiled.
“Of course, we just attack directly. After all, out on this vast ocean, the five of us working together mean they can’t escape anywhere! For dealing with these undead, Uther’s abilities are more useful than ours!” With that, Donald briefly outlined the subsequent actions before preparing spells himself.
