Chapter 248: The Codex of the Gods
After a feast of whole crabs, Carlisle had gone to merge fragments of his divine essence to enhance his power. Already at the peak of his golden state, his next appearance before everyone might see him at a legendary level.
Donald did not go out to gather more information but instead counted his gains in the stone chamber. In addition to the Cancerian armor, he also acquired thousands of units of soul power, proving that the God of Cancer was stronger than the God of Thorns in terms of divine essence. Moreover, he found a crystal of faith within the totem. The God of Thorns, due to his small territory and limited tribe population, plus being suddenly attacked by Donald and his group, had used his divine power several times in a row, leaving almost no faith power left. But the God of Cancer was an established deity among the three nearby islands, having been a god for over a hundred years, so he had accumulated a great deal of power. Besides divine and domain seals, the totem also contained numerous crystals of faith. Although not as much as what he had obtained from the Bottom-Dwelling Demon Fish before, it was still quite substantial.
During the absorption process, the Book of Truth provided guidance: after converting faith into divine power, if the Book of Truth absorbed that power, it would enable the next set of functions. With more divine power now available, Donald wasn’t concerned about the costs. Besides, he was very eager to see what the next phase of the Book of Truth’s capabilities could do, so he agreed without hesitation to let the Book of Truth absorb his divine power to restore itself.
The Book of Truth acted like a high-powered water pump, drawing away 70% of Donald’s divine power reserves before stopping when only a little over a thousand units remained. Donald’s spiritual projection eagerly entered the world of the Book of Truth once again. By then, the Book of Truth had recovered to the level of a lower-grade divine artifact, with its abilities further enhanced. Following the summoning altar, creation factory, dimensional cube, and House of Time, another palace in the City of Wisdom was unlocked.
This newly opened palace was called the Codex of the Gods. Inside, there was a dark golden stone tablet shaped like two pyramids stacked on top of each other. On each of the octahedron’s faces, strange runes floated in midair, exuding an aura of supreme authority, as if they represented the laws of all things. However, there were few runes on them at present, with most of the surface remaining blank and dim. As soon as Donald’s mental energy touched the octahedron, he received a response from the Book of Truth.
It turns out that this stele, which appears to be a combination of two pyramids, is the Codex of the Gods. It is a being that lies between a divine artifact and a sacred object, designed by the creator of the Book of Truth, who imitated the supreme core laws of his world to create the Destiny Tablet. By “codex,” it refers to a book that records laws, not the laws of the mundane world.
The Codex of the Gods contains all the information about the gods known to that great being, including their divinities, roles, domains, laws, divinity, souls, and all other knowledge related to the true gods as recorded in the Book of Truth. Its primary function is to allow its holder to choose any role corresponding to a certain law and gain the authority to officially become a god. It also has the powerful ability to decipher the mysteries of laws and even strip away others’ divine powers. Of course, to use the latter, the holder must at least reach the level of a true god, and the target cannot be a being of a higher divine rank than oneself.
Additionally, the Codex of the Gods has a capability that is very useful for Donald right now: it can transform the laws contained in a divine role or domain imprint into attributes suitable for personal use, or by paying divine energy, it can create a corresponding divine role imprint—provided that such laws are recorded in the Codex. The previous process of disassembling totemic divinities to gather divine fragments actually relied on some of the capabilities of the Codex of the Gods.
In other words, with the Codex of the Gods in hand, he can freely transform and shape the divine role imprints he desires, gather divine fragments, and ultimately obtain a complete divinity and role. This is an incredibly powerful tool for him, akin to a cheat code, because some laws are fundamentally contradictory or incompatible. Even hunting hundreds of earth gods might not yield enough divine fragments suitable for him.
With the Codex of the Gods, his journey to the World of Totemic Continents is now perfect. Currently, only the laws of various levels known to its creator exist within the Codex. For a god, mastering so many laws is extremely powerful, but compared to the vast number of laws in the world, it’s still a small amount.
A few sparse runes float across the eight surfaces of the Codex of the Gods, making it appear extremely empty. “It seems I need to take this opportunity to acquire more totemic divinities. Then I’ll be able to find a divine role and domain that suits me and my preferences!”
Apart from the Codex of Gods, with the restoration of the Book of Truth, the functions of the Plane Cube and the House of Time have also been enhanced. Currently, the maximum time acceleration achievable by the House of Time remains at 100 times, but the amount of divine energy consumed is one-third less than before. Moreover, the rules for creating planes via the Plane Cube are now more powerful and complete, enabling the creation of more stable semi-planes that won’t collapse due to incomplete rules after just a few years.
The space imprints used for storage in the past were created through some of the functions of the Plane Cube. However, today’s semi-planes are different from storage spaces that cannot hold living beings—they are actual small worlds. While energy is input to create a semi-plane, materials within it can also be manufactured using the Creation Factory, and various creatures can be created there later through summoning altars.
Still, semi-planes are not complete; they lack the natural cycles of the main world and have no sun, moon, or stars, requiring a long time to evolve. Only after evolving into a complete plane can they exist alongside other subplane continents, relying on the main world for sustenance, allowing creatures to reproduce there generation after generation.
The Plane Cube itself was an extraordinary artifact salvaged from a spacetime vortex by that powerful true god back in the day. Its value alone is comparable to that of an ordinary high-tier divine artifact.
Such extraordinary artifacts, also known as divine objects, are substances with unique properties that inherently contain changes in laws. They are classified by rank into legendary, subgod-level, lower divine objects, medium divine objects, higher divine objects, with only a small number of supreme divine objects being created at the birth of a great world.
The Plane Cube itself is a supreme divine object of a spatial nature, containing countless holes. As long as sufficient energy is input through one of these holes and undergoes refinement through the complex layers of spatial laws inside, a prototype of a plane—what is known as a semi-plane—will form on the other side.
Even the gods cannot casually wield this ability to create semi-planes, which shows just how powerful the functions of the Plane Cube are!
After the Plane Cube’s function was unlocked, the first thing Donald thought of was: “The main world is restricted by the Church of Gods, making it difficult to spread teachings and gain followers on a large scale. How long will it take to accumulate enough faith crystals merely through the power of reverence?”
“Now that it’s possible to create stable demi-planes, isn’t this the perfect time? As long as we create an environment in there similar to that of the main world, we can bring in many people to live there. Then, we can train them to become my followers and use the fragments of divine essence to transform their faith into power—thus increasing their strength by at least ten times!”
“It seems that in addition to seizing the totem gods, I also need to take their followers!”
With that in mind, Donald checked his remaining divine energy reserves. With a thousand points of divine energy, he should be able to create a smaller demi-plane.
