Chapter 34: Miss Veli’s Gift, Section 10
The flying flesh was a vivid crimson, strikingly prominent against the pure white light. Even from a great distance behind, Blackhair could clearly see that shocking color. He also felt a secret horror at the cruelty of these beings that resembled “angels.”
Yet compared to their cruelty toward him, what happened next was even more unacceptable. As the three angels embracing each other exploded into fragments, the dazzling white light suddenly changed color, as if stained red by their blood. Starting from those three sacrificed “angels,” the color spread instantly, covering the entire pattern in an instant. Tens of thousands of “angels” forming the pattern were all affected. Their pure feathers turned blood-red in an instant, the vivid color seeming to drip with blood.
“What’s that?” Monkey asked, stunned.
But no one answered him. Everyone’s attention was drawn to that eerie red. The pure “angels” had suddenly become so monstrous—the stark contrast was almost insane. Then they noticed that the ten Moorish giant ships at the front had disappeared, submerged in an endless sea of blood-red. Angels were everywhere, and red filled the air. Though these creatures were too small to distinguish clearly against the massive size of the Moorish ships, their sheer numbers were overwhelming. Their attack method was even simpler—throughout the entire time, all the blood-red angels had only one action: fly. They kept flying, rapidly, through the storm-like energy fire. Every minute, every second, angels were shot down. In the face of the Moorish cannons, they were even more fragile than eggs. Yet not a single angel stopped. Their swift movements through the starry sky intertwined to form a blood-red net, tightly enclosing the ten Moorish giant ships at the front. Visibly, the net continued to tighten.
Blackhair knew how high a price each contraction of this net demanded. He had witnessed hundreds of angels unable to dodge as their flight paths tightened, being torn to pieces by the Moorish ships’ close-range cannons. Their blood-red feathers scattered across the stars, and their strong bodies exploded into fragments in an instant—a sight too gruesome to bear.
But compared to their efforts, the rewards were incredibly astonishing. It was unclear what kind of power lay behind the flight paths of these “angels.” Those ten Moorish giant ships darted left and right, yet they couldn’t escape. As time passed, the space they could move in became smaller and smaller. By the time half of the blood-red meteors had fallen from the sky, those ten Moorish giant ships were trapped in an area of just a few hundred kilometers. Not only could they no longer move, but even firing their cannons was hindered by their own allied ships.
At this point, Black Hair already knew those ten Moorish giant ships were done for. The net woven by the blood-red “angels” at such a great cost was definitely not meant just for show. In such a confined space, the power of the Moorish giant ships’ massive cannons could no longer be utilized. Even when attacking, they had to be extremely careful not to harm their own allies. Was there any point in continuing such a battle? If it were him, perhaps he could still turn the situation around with the power of his magic machines. But the Moors were powerless.
Giant ships were strong, yet they also had fatal weaknesses. And those “angels” seemed to know those weaknesses extremely well. To the point that they were willing to bear nearly half their forces as a high price just to expose those weaknesses. Regardless of their ultimate outcome, it was enough for Black Hair to respect them.
Such enemies were truly… extremely terrifying.
“Bang!!”
Another mass of flesh exploded in space. Bright red blood formed a strange pattern, splashing onto the cold stone armor. After just fifteen minutes of battle, the “angels” had successfully squeezed all movement space out of the Moorish giant ships, forcing them into close combat. They flew fearlessly close to the enemy’s massive hulls, their blood-red wings flapping frequently, leaving long red trails behind. Though those trails seemed intangible, when they touched the huge hulls, a scene that shocked everyone appeared.
It… had actually sunk deep into the hull.
“Is that net real?” Blood-Pupiled stepped beside Black Hair, frowning. With the battle having progressed to this stage, they remained like spectators, not only failing to help their subordinates but not even moving. As the “angels’” hunt neared its end, everyone’s expressions grew increasingly solemn.
They all knew well that after those Moorish giant ships were destroyed, the next targets of those “angels” would be them. It made sense to observe the enemy’s attack methods more closely now.
But even with such careful observation, they failed to find anything special about those “angels.” It was certainly brave to fear death not, but excessive sacrifice was meaningless. They had seen the effect of the red nets, and to be honest, they didn’t seem particularly powerful. In Bloodpupil’s view, constructing such nets was downright unnecessary.
You see, for the sake of these nets, the “angels” had sacrificed nearly half of their numbers. If they could only serve to bind and corrode, it would be far too trivial. After all, the size of the Moorish giant ships was obvious to all—destroying them merely through the corrosion of nets was nothing short of dreaming!!
Was it a dream?
A nightmare, perhaps?
Blackhair sneered coldly. Before he could reply to Bloodpupil, the scene outside changed again. All the “angels” engaged in close combat with the Moorish giant ships suddenly altered their flight paths, rushing away as if mad, ignoring the fierce artillery fire from the ships. Amidst countless scattered wings, they suffered heavy losses—another half became debris under the Moorish ships’ fire. By the time they managed to escape, their numbers had dropped to less than one-third of the original. Yet Blackhair noticed that at this moment, there were no longer those red lines following them.
Those countless red lines remained on the hulls of the Moorish giant ships, standing out sharply against the vast starry sky. Ten massive warships were wrapped in layers of nets, like zongzi. They struggled desperately but couldn’t break free. The nets, no longer pulled by the “angels,” stopped contracting and merely maintained their grip. Then, all the blood-red “angels” suddenly gathered together, hand in hand…
Blackhair heard a song.
“What’s that sound? How can it travel in a vacuum?” Not only Blackhair but everyone else heard it too. Shock appeared on everyone’s face.
“I don’t know,” Blackhair shook his head, his expression grave. For some reason, he felt even more distressed at this moment. That ethereal song was like a curse, making even breathing painful. His heart pounded violently, like a hammer, and Blackhair could even feel the intense flow of blood through his pulses.
But upon observing his companions around him, he saw nothing unusual. Blackhair grew puzzled. Could only he feel this?
Just then, a voice suddenly reached his ears.
“Look, what’s that? Oh! My God!!” Gasps of shock rang out one after another. Blackhair froze, quickly looking over, only to find that the situation on the battlefield had changed again. The net surrounding the giant ships was no longer bright red but gradually turning black, like blood drying up. The blackness deepened rapidly and spread quickly, covering every corner of the net. Merging with the surrounding pitch-black starry sky, the net became invisible. The giant ships trapped within remained silent, as if they had lost all power in an instant. On their icy, massive hulls, the dents left by the net were clearly visible, like cracks that penetrated deep into their structure.
The singing grew louder. Under everyone’s gaze, those dark cracks suddenly widened. Silently, they split all the Moorish giant ships into tiny fragments. There were no explosions, no flames—everything happened so quietly. The sight of the massive ships disintegrating in an instant left everyone stunned.
“…Am I dreaming?” A Bloodwolf pirate rubbed his eyes and suddenly spoke to his companion. But he got no reply, as his companion was also gaping his mouth, utterly stunned.
“Bloodpupil, check if there are any spatial anomalies.” Amidst the silent shock, Blackhair’s voice sounded abrupt. This made Bloodpupil shiver and snap out of his shock. Without hesitation, he rushed to the control panel nearby and began typing frantically. Soon, a spatial structure diagram composed of countless lines appeared on Li Feng’s main screen.
Everyone could clearly see that the originally orderly and balanced spatial structure was now completely distorted. And right where those Moorish giant ships were, the distortion was most severe. On the network-like spatial diagram, a clearly visible large hole even appeared!!!
“Damn it!! They… actually… torn apart space!!” Bloodpupil stood there, stunned.
Outside the window, the dark cracks grew larger, with countless fragments floating silently in space. The singing gradually reached its end. A visible black vortex slowly appeared before everyone’s eyes. It was small but had an extremely strong gravitational pull, quickly swallowing up all the ship fragments. In less than a moment, the once-battlefield-strewn starry sky became as clean as a mirror. Apart from the ‘Angels’ floating above, nothing else was visible.
The ‘Angels’ turned around in unison, finally directing their gaze toward Blackhair’s location…
