Chapter 24: The Howl of the Blood Wolf, Section 1
The fleet surrounding the Capital Planet was none other than Black Hair’s group. After nearly half a month of relentless attacks, Black Hair had pushed mobile warfare to its extreme. His presence spanned the entire Eighth Star Region. Wherever he went, he was like a god of disaster, bringing destruction to every planet he wished to punish. There were only eighteen mining planets in the Eighth Star Region in total, and he had managed to destroy twelve of them. The remaining six had already been reserved by the Pirate Alliance.
Of course, during this process, Baroka expressed regret more than once and tried to persuade Black Hair to keep one or two of those planets as his own resource bases. But Black Hair rejected the idea outright. There was no other reason—in his mind, this was a act of revenge, a response to Yuriko. Although their relationship had remained ambiguous from the start to the end, Black Hair wanted to give her a clear answer through this revenge. He had never truly treated her as a slave.
At the thought of that beautiful blue angel, Black Hair felt his heart tighten. His hands had turned white from gripping them so tightly, yet on the surface, he remained utterly calm—calm as if he weren’t even human.
“Has there been any news from the Undead Clan?”
“Yes, Captain. They’ve already infiltrated the guards’ bodies, and part of the planet’s defense fleet has also been compromised. But since they came out in small numbers this time, they’re not enough to take control of the situation. Their representative warned us to be careful when taking action,” Baroka replied in a low voice.
After this incident, Black Hair became even more reserved. As time passed, his authority grew ever greater. Once, Baroka dared to joke around with him, but now, even giving a proper reply felt like a burden to him. He would ponder countless times before speaking, ensuring everything was in order before uttering a word.
“We don’t need to control them all. With the Undead Clan’s methods, controlling just a small portion should be enough to shock the enemy. All we need is chaos—that’s sufficient. Blood Pupil, have they sent any distress signals yet?”
“Yes, they have. But all of them were intercepted in the reverse space by mutants from the Bark Bug Clan. Not a single signal has been sent out. Without reverse space channels, it would take at least a month for their messages to get through.” Blood Pupil sneered, flipped his palm, and somehow produced a small knife, starting to trim his nails. “By then, they’d already be buried in coffins.”
The dark-haired man narrowed his eyes slightly. His fingers began to tap rhythmically on the armrest.
To be honest, when it came to combat support, the undead and the Buckworms were truly formidable. Others might not know, but he understood well that the undead were not the product of accumulated resentment after death as people believed, nor were they the eerie monsters people feared. Instead, they were a new form of life. They lacked a physical form yet required material resources to sustain themselves—existing somewhere between the two. Newly born undead did have a physical form and were extremely fragile. Only after years of accumulation and absorption of countless resources could they transform into an intangible state—i.e., their mature form.
Of course, once they reached maturity, the undead became terrifying. They could easily infiltrate any being with a weak will, triggering harmful substances within that being while suppressing its immune system, turning it into a vessel that absorbed surrounding viruses. Such attacks were almost unavoidable.
This behavior reminded the dark-haired man of AIDS, which once terrified people on Earth. But compared to that, the undead were even more direct and terrifying. As long as they wished, physical beings could hardly escape their grasp—unless they had an extremely strong will and keen intuition.
In this regard, probably no one on Death Star, aside from the dark-haired man, could match him. This was also one of the reasons why the undead preferred to stay by his side.
Everyone wanted to attach themselves to a strong person. In the eyes of the undead, the dark-haired man, who could resist their attacks, was the strongest among the strong. Even their clan leader, Tetro, a high-level undead at the third stage of maturity, worshipped him as well.
And then there was the other protagonist of this blockade—the mutated version of the Buckworms. As the name suggested, these creatures emerged from mutations within the Buckworm species. Unlike ordinary Buckworms, they not only retained their ability to move freely in anti-space but also possessed the power to absorb intangible frequencies. However, as a trade-off, they lost the claws and hard shells that the Buckworms were so proud of, making them surprisingly fragile in normal battles.
It is precisely for this reason that this variant has always been discriminated against among the Bakker species. Lacking combat capabilities, they suffered immensely in a race that glorified violence; not even the advanced Bakkers, nor even the newly born young ones, spared them. It was only after Blackhair discovered their abilities that things changed. Now, almost all of these variants have been recruited by Blackhair, becoming an unseen force within the Blood Wolf faction. Their social status also soared to that of ordinary pirates, much to the envy of their own kind.
Information warfare… the most crucial part of this kind of warfare. How could anyone in this era understand it? Perhaps only Blackhair would regard it as a treasure.
Yet today, this force finally revealed its terrifying side. With them in the anti-space realm, it would be impossible for the capital planet to send out any messages through anti-space. And if messages had to be sent through normal space, the vast distances would render even the fastest frequencies useless.
After nearly half a month of preparation, it was finally time for direct confrontation. It would be a lie to say Blackhair wasn’t excited. The crystal from Lily still emitted a faint heat in his chest wall. A surge of rage overwhelmed him like a flood. Before he knew it, bloodshot eyes appeared in his gaze, and his voice became hoarse.
“It’s time. Baroka, tell those guys in the Pirate Alliance to help harass any fleets that might return. Everyone else, go!”
“Yes, Captain!”
The orders were quickly conveyed, and Blackhair’s assault fleet immediately displayed terrifying power. Thirty of the latest Lightning Assault Ships charged forward, quickly forming a semicircular protective circle at the front of the fleet, while the ships behind rapidly arranged themselves in a tiered formation, spreading out their firing points to maximize the effectiveness of the “Hellfire” weapons.
After half a month of training, Blackhair’s men had already mastered these weapons and developed a highly effective attack pattern by leveraging their high firing rate—namely, tiered fire waves. Since the Hellfire weapons had such a high rate of fire, firing them all at once not only failed to achieve maximum damage but also seemed wasteful. So the pirates took this ancient attack method, made slight modifications, and turned it into a brand-new tactic.
The tiered distribution of fire allowed Blackhair’s assault fleet to maintain a continuous firepower even greater than that of regular large armies. Combined with the high firing rate of the Hellfire weapons, their power remained undiminished. From the very first strike, they displayed terrifying strength.
The silent universe emitted not a sound, yet waves of energy light surged like tsunamis, covering vast stretches of the starry sky for dozens of kilometers. Red, high-temperature jets rushed toward the capital planet wave after wave; visibly, massive flames erupted across the planet.
Before this attack, Hei Fa had already scanned everything thoroughly. The targets were strictly divided—almost all areas except the homes of the common people were within range of attack. From the ground, the extremely hot jets descending from the sky resembled scorching magma, melting the land and flattening mountains. The entire planet trembled under this unprecedented bombardment. The sky turned blood-red from the heat of the jets. The scene was pure hell… People fled in panic, and the capital planet immediately fell into unprecedented chaos.
It wasn’t that no one tried to take control—the Hei Fa faction’s attacks were simply too fierce. From the very beginning, they destroyed the most important airports and several large warship supply bases, leaving theirescorts ships without any support. Even worse, at some point, widespread gangrene began to appear among theescorts and soldiers. Visible scars appeared on people’s faces and bodies, followed by large patches of skin and flesh falling off—yet the victims felt nothing. Faced with their comrades’ horrified looks, they thought they had dirt on their faces. But when they wiped it off, their entire face was gone. In one extreme case, aescorts’s rough wiping motion even knocked off his entire head!!
Could there be anything more terrifying than this? Anyone who witnessed such scenes couldn’t suppress their fear. Soon, screams of terror spread through the army like a plague. In the entire capital planet, with hundreds of permanent warships, less than half could take to the air to fight. Their combat strength plummeted.
At that moment, Marquis Vincent stood dumbfounded in the courtyard of his manor, like a fool. Staring at the blood-red sky and the constantly flashing waves of high-temperature jets, he was speechless. The muscles on his face trembled involuntarily…
Following his gaze, the surroundingescorts suddenly noticed that small black dots had appeared in the red sky—unknown when. These dots resembled falling meteorites but were much smaller. They rushed rapidly toward the ground, leaving long, dazzling trails due to air friction…
“That’s… mecha fleets!!!” one of theescorts exclaimed in shock.
