Chapter 10: Temptation (Part 2)
Qi Wu Zhen curled her lips and said, “It’s all the same in the end. Actually, now that I think about it, it’s better to live in the world of spells. This place lacks the foundation for us to survive.”
Li Ran shook his head. “Your vision is too limited. You’re confined to this tiny world. You should know that the true great world… that’s the foundation for us to survive. You’ve studied the Twelve Soul Scriptures… and my Soul Scripture too. Your soul is immortal. Eventually, you’ll realize that this world is far too barren. The great world is the truly wonderful one. Moreover… the great world has everything, and you can keep progressing.”
Guo Shier also said, “Sister Zhen, you should be able to understand the concept of a world. This world isn’t suitable for us. Once your soul becomes immortal, you’ll eventually have to seek a way out like us. This is a boring world. The outcome of immortality will make you long for a more wonderful world. Otherwise… you’ll be extremely lonely.”
Qi Wu Zhen remained silent for a while before murmuring, “Immortal soul? That’s impossible…” An immortal soul meant one could never die, forever. After thinking about it for a moment, she shuddered. She still had a few friends now, but once they left, she didn’t know who else could become her friend. Even if she had friends, they wouldn’t be able to endure the long years. With no new things to stimulate her, she felt a hint of fear—not fear of life and death, but fear of extreme loneliness.
Guo Shier urged her, “Sister Zhen, you don’t have any friends here, nor any relatives. Come with us to the great world. That’s where our stage lies.”
Qi Wu Zhen said, “I’ll think about it further.” Along the way, she had come to respect Li Ran and Guo Shier, developing feelings of friendship for them. With them around, she didn’t need to hide her emotions or be on guard against anything. Having companions felt wonderful, and she understood this well. This was also why she was still with Li Ran and Guo Shier.
Selin held the last rib in her hand. Aside from eating frantically, she had been listening silently to the three of them talking. Hearing this, she couldn’t help but ask, “The great world? What kind of place is it?” This was the third time she had asked the same question, and each time she received no answer.
Guo Shier smiled and said, “Ceciline, it’s a place you can’t understand. It’s infinitely vast and expansive. If you go there, you’ll never be able to find its edge. It’s a world filled with stars.” In a good mood, he gave a brief introduction.
Ceciline was stunned. After a long while, she said, “Infinitely vast? That’s impossible…” With her knowledge, she couldn’t grasp the concept of a starry sky, but that didn’t stop her from longing for it. She asked carefully, “Can you take me there too?”
It was Guo Shier’s turn to be stunned. He replied, “You? You want to go to the Great World?”
Ceciline asked, “Can’t I go?”
Guo Shier nodded and said, “You can’t. Your strength isn’t enough. You’re likely to die halfway. This path is extremely dangerous. Even we don’t know if we can make it out alive.”
Ceciline gasped. She was stunned for a long time before saying, “Even with your terrifying strength, you can’t get through smoothly?” In her eyes, these three were already beyond ordinary limits—their strength was beyond her imagination. Almost no one could match them. Just one of them could sweep away a large group of experts.
Li Ran said, “Human strength will eventually run out, but the power of the world is endless. We’re not fighting against people; we’re fighting against the world. Hehe, it’s not surprising if we can’t win.”
Admiration shone in Ceciline’s eyes. These words deeply impacted her. These three didn’t even bother fighting against ordinary people. Such a level left her speechless and sparked great interest in her. She thought that if she had such terrifying strength, fighting against others would probably be meaningless. She said, “But… I still want to go!”
Guo Shier was speechless. This woman had actually clung to them.
Li Ran shook his head slightly and said, “You can definitely come if you insist, but we can’t guarantee your safety.”
Ceciline said firmly, “I’m not afraid of death!”
Qi Wu Zhen used to be a madman too, and he felt a strong resonance with her words. He smiled and said, “Girls from the Blade Clan are great. If I decide to go, I’ll protect you.”
Ceciline immediately flashed a big smile and said, “Thank you, Sister Zhen.” She had always been afraid of Qi Wu Zhen and didn’t dare speak much to her. She never expected her to make such a promise.
Li Ran and Guo Shier exchanged a wry smile. They both hoped Qi Wu Zhen would join, but they had never expected Ceciline to join either. She was truly a burden. But if Qi Wu Zhen joined, that burden could almost be offset.
Guo Shier said, “We’ll decide when the time comes. Nothing can be decided now.”
Li Ran didn’t expect Guo Shier to invite Qi Wu Zhen to go with them again, nor did he expect Seraphine to ask to join as well. He was more than happy for Qi Wu Zhen to accompany them, but he had serious doubts about Seraphine going. However, with his experience and insight, he certainly wouldn’t stop her; he would only explain the pros and cons to her. The final decision still lay with her, after all, Seraphine was a skilled member of the Blade Clan with her own opinions.
Guo Shier asked, “Have you all finished eating?” When everyone nodded, he said, “Good. I’ll tidy up, and we’ll leave soon. We’ve been here for quite a while.” With a wave of his hand, he sent all the cooking utensils back into the altar.
The old man couldn’t help but curse loudly. He had to wash all the utensils, yet he wasn’t allowed to eat because he had no physical body—only a soul. His food was the Spirit Pearl, which served as both his food and snack. He couldn’t eat anything else. Having to clean the utensils despite not being able to eat made him furious. His soul trembled violently, sending waves of energy at Guo Shier.
Guo Shier wore a pained smile. It was always the same. He hurriedly tried to calm him down and finally managed to soothe the old man’s anger. Fortunately, he rarely prepared talismanic food, otherwise, the old man would have been even angrier.
Seraphine watched Guo Shier curiously. She was very perceptive. After all the utensils disappeared, she saw Guo Shier’s troubled expression and asked curiously, “What’s wrong?”
Guo Shier shook his head slightly. His soul was still trembling as he tried to calm the old man. He couldn’t explain. Could he tell her that there was an old man scolding inside his altar? He could only shake his head with a pained smile.
The four of them left the building and flew into the air. The surroundings were gloomy, with vast ruins of buildings, yet not a trace of life, making it extremely desolate and pitiful. A cold wind blew, lifting some withered branches, leaves, and debris into the air, drifting slowly with the wind.
There were large areas of collapsed buildings and countless broken walls. The howling wind sounded like faint sobs. Seraphine couldn’t help but shiver and said, “A terrifying place.”
Li Ran glanced around indifferently and said, “Good. The Void Worms have been shaken off. Let’s go!”
The four of them rose into the air and quickly followed Li Ran forward.
After flying for about fifteen minutes, Li Ran said, “There should be a large supply station of the Tianling Clan ahead. Hehe, let’s go check things out. News about the Void Worms should have reached there by now. Their communication system is quite advanced, not inferior to ours.”
Guo Shier said, “Hmm, let’s go take a look.” He still held a glimmer of hope that he might encounter his master, Kumu, in the Luotian Ruins. Despite searching for so long, he had never given up, especially since he had received news of Kumu not long ago. Guo Shier knew that Kumu was likely already inside the Luotian Ruins, so he didn’t want to miss any human settlements.
After flying for a day, the four saw many passing spacecraft and flying cars, all flying in groups toward the distance. The people on those vehicles and ships instinctively kept their distance when they saw the four of them. Those who could form a group of four and fly swiftly through the air were definitely not to be trifled with—they were top experts.
Li Ran said, “The supply point is ahead. Wow, the Tianling Clan is truly remarkable—so many people and so much supplies.”
A human settlement appeared on the ground, surrounded by defensive metal walls built by the Mechanical Clan. It covered an area of about ten kilometers square, with numerous spacecraft and flying cars taking off and landing there, making it extremely busy. Compared to the desolate surroundings, this place was a bustling hub.
The four landed at the supply point without hesitation, descending slowly only once they were in the air. No one dared to question them. It was obvious that such bold and arrogant individuals must be extremely powerful. That’s why they were able to enter the supply point smoothly. Although they were watched by the Tianling Clan members, no one approached them, so no conflicts arose.
This supply point was frequented by explorers from various races, creating a noisy marketplace-like atmosphere with constant comings and goings.
The four quickly blended into the crowd, and the Tianling Clan members who had been watching Li Ran’s group finally relaxed. With so many people here, as long as no one deliberately caused trouble, no one would interfere—especially with super experts, who had even more privileges.
Li Ran and the three others walked along the streets, chatting. The streets here were temporary, with various goods piled up on both sides, along with various items sold by the Tianling Clan, most of which were daily necessities.
Guo Shier kept shaking his head, looking around as if searching for something. Qi Wuzhen couldn’t help but ask, “Shier, what are you doing?”
Li Ran immediately understood and said, “Shier, are you looking for Kumu?”
Guo Shier replied, “I’m trying to find him. Maybe he’s here…”
Qi Wuzhen suggested, “Try sending a message token. If he’s here, he’ll definitely receive it.”
Guo Shier smiled bitterly. “I only have one message token left. I don’t dare send another. If I do, I’ll run out.”
Qi Wu Zhen shook his head and asked, “Are they all used up?”
Guo Shier said, “Yes. Whenever I arrive in a new continent of talismans, I send out a message talisman, and now they’re all exhausted.”
As they were talking, suddenly there was a great uproar, and many members of the Tianling tribe looked up at the sky.
