Chapter 9: A Simple Trap (Part 1)
The Moon Blade was Guo Shier’s personal talisman weapon, just forged by him and still being nurtured within his soul. Unexpectedly, it flew out on its own. Guo Shier had no idea what would happen, nor dared he stop. He continued moving forward step by step, though much slower, with heavier steps.
Countless virtual talismans gathered in the air, forming groups before rapidly being infused into the Moon Blade. Guo Shier was filled with surprise and delight. He realized that the altar could not only pass on knowledge but also help him forge his personal talisman weapon. Numerous strange combinations of virtual talismans flowed into the Moon Blade, followed by flashes of red light. The entire blade began to change, but Guo Shier couldn’t control these changes.
Yet, he liked these changes. He knew there were many issues with forging the Moon Blade. Due to his level and strength limitations, he couldn’t create a talisman weapon beyond his own capabilities. With the altar’s help, the power of this Moon Blade could be greatly enhanced.
It was a pity that the Giant Axe Talisman wasn’t a personal talisman weapon, so the altar wouldn’t help forge it. The beast and insect talismans also went unnoticed by the altar, which left Guo Shier somewhat disappointed.
The Moon Blade remained floating in front of Guo Shier, without hindering his progress. He kept moving upward step by step, slowly but without stopping. He understood that during the inheritance process, stopping was the worst thing that could happen—it was extremely detrimental to the inheritance.
Kumu and Monier stood not far from the altar, watching. They could clearly see what was happening at both ends—Eagle Demon and Luo Zhan moving upward step by step, while Guo Shier was ascending on the other side. The entire altar glowed with colorful talismanic lights. Kumu said, “That kid is really lucky. It’s a shame… we can’t get the inheritance…”
Monier smiled and said, “As long as our baby can get the inheritance, it wasn’t in vain.”
Kumu was speechless. He had seen people dote on their children before, but never someone like his wife. He said indifferently, “It’s time you had a child…”
Monier blushed furiously and scolded, “You perverted wooden block!” Yet, she involuntarily moved closer to him and wrapped her arm around his. Their argument had stemmed from the issue of having children or not.
A faint smile appeared on Kumu’s cold, stiff face. At that moment, he realized he really owed Monier something.
Suddenly, two green beams shot down from the stone tablet, enveloping the two of them. Their souls heard a voice at the same time: “Come down to the stone tablet…” Kuumu and Monier exchanged a glance and immediately flew toward the tablet without hesitation. Strangely, the green light remained around them, moving as they did.
Eagle Demon Biro walked much faster. His base skills were already excellent, and the stone tablet had further strengthened his soul, allowing him to move swiftly. His speed only slowed down when he reached halfway.
Luo Zhan had walked slowly from the start. His willpower was extremely strong. It was no easy feat for anyone to rise to the level of a master practitioner on a low-tier continent like Beifu Gate. He also had experience with inheritance and was well-accustomed to walking the Soul Altar, knowing how to gain the greatest benefits.
His foundation had been laid by the Ancient Seal People, and later he received inheritance from the Fire Sect on the Earthfire Continent. However, as an outsider, the inheritance he received was rather ordinary. The help this altar offered him was vastly different—massive amounts of inheritance poured into his soul, allowing him to move upward step by step at a slow but steady pace.
Kuumu and Monier arrived at the base of the stone tablet. Another voice sounded in their souls: “Sit down. Since you two can’t receive my son’s inheritance, I’ll give you some benefits. Don’t move around…”
A loud explosion resonated in their souls, leaving Kuumu and Monier dizzy. Soul shock was a terrifying experience. It took some time before they regained their senses. Everything around was silent. Monier exclaimed in surprise, “What is this?”
Kuumu raised a hand to stop her, signaling her not to speak. He immediately focused his mind on his soul and then said with delight, “I’ve actually received some inheritance… Ni’er, check yours too—there should be some as well!”
Monier examined hers and said in surprise, “Yes, I’ve also received some inheritance. Let me see what it is.”
Both of them showed expressions of joy. What they received was inheritance on how to construct a Soul Altar. Such extraordinary inheritance was not even available in many high-tier continent sects. It was unexpected that they could obtain it here, and it was complete—covering everything from a virtual altar to a physical one.
The large sects on the advanced continents at most possess the inheritance to construct an illusory altar, and only elite disciples trained by the sects can obtain it; outsiders have no chance of getting such an inheritance. If Kumu joined a large sect on an advanced continent, at most he could acquire the inheritance required for a high-ranking sage, and it would be almost impossible to go any further, no matter how hard he tried.
Monier suddenly covered her head and said, “I have a headache. I feel my soul… churning! It’s so uncomfortable!”
Kumu’s face turned pale. He also felt uneasy but couldn’t identify the reason.
After calming down a bit, Monier endured her dizziness and said, “I wonder how our baby is doing?”
Kumu and Monier still didn’t know that the inheritances obtained by Guo Shier and the other two were equally incredible. Guo Shier received the inheritance to construct a soul altar, and even that—two layers of altars, meaning he got the complete inheritance of the altar’s master. Yingmo and Luozhan were slightly behind, as the altar’s master was a spellcaster, so their inheritance in the martial arts aspect was relatively less.
Thus, in the Tanya Secret Realm, it was the Kumu couple and Guo Shier who reaped the greatest benefits, as they found what they needed most. However, gains came with dangers, and the three of them hadn’t yet realized the severity of the situation.
Monier said, “Let’s go to the altar. I wonder if our baby has finished.” The two arrived at the altar and saw the three of them sitting cross-legged on its top, eyes closed in meditation. Guo Shier was muttering to himself; they didn’t know what he was saying, and neither Kumu nor Monier understood, but they felt their souls becoming very comfortable.
They exchanged a glance and flew to the top of the altar, sitting cross-legged beside Guo Shier. Both noticed that the extreme unease was gradually disappearing.
Guo Shier struggled to keep his soul calm, reciting mantras over and over to soothe his restless soul. Receiving so much inheritance at once was too much for him to handle. He didn’t realize that if his soul couldn’t calm down quickly, not only would all the inheritances vanish, but even those he had already obtained would be lost. Such inheritances hid deadly dangers, yet he knew nothing about it in advance.
The so-called danger was soul collapse, a common occurrence among ancient spellcasters during inheritance. Those with weak souls who received advanced spellcraft inheritances would suffer soul collapse.
Yingmo and Luozhan were also very uneasy. Upon hearing Guo Shier’s voice, their souls immediately sensed benefits, and before they knew it, they were sitting beside him as well.
The turbulent souls gradually calmed down. The most perilous stage of the inheritance was successfully passed amidst Guo Shier’s chanting. If they had failed this stage, all five of them would likely have died here—their souls dissipating without leaving any trace. At the very least, they would have become fools.
They sat there for eight days. During these eight days, the five of them underwent tremendous changes. Ku Mu directly advanced to Intermediate Great Sage, Monier also reached Junior Great Sage, Eagle Demon advanced to Intermediate Talisman-Warrior Sage, and Luo Zhan reached Advanced Mad Master, almost reaching the level of Sage. The one who benefited the most was Guo Shier, who directly advanced to Advanced Sage, also almost reaching Junior Great Sage. Since he had been a professional for too short a time, the soul power he had accumulated was not enough to support his advancement to Great Sage.
Guo Shier had no idea that he had inadvertently saved everyone’s lives, including his own. That top expert from the Gu Miluo family had no ill intentions; he simply carried out the inheritance as usual, not realizing that these people were not Gu Fu people and did not possess strong enough souls to receive the inheritance. This kind of inheritance was far more powerful than that of an intermediate altar, belonging to the category of advanced inheritance. It could only be carried out if one had reached the level of Advanced Great Sage.
The others had no idea of the dangers involved. Upon seeing the Soul Altar, their first thought was to accept the inheritance, with no notion of any potential risks.
Ku Mu opened his eyes. Once his soul was completely calm, he understood what had happened. Even though he was extremely bold, he still broke into a cold sweat and repeated, “Luck! Luck! Luck!” He said it three times, his back clothes soaked through with sweat.
Monier also came to her senses and hugged Guo Shier, saying, “Baby, you saved us all!”
Eagle Demon and Luo Zhan stared in confusion, still unaware of the danger.
Ku Mu asked, “Shier, what were you muttering nonstop just now? I couldn’t understand it. Yet it managed to calm my soul.”
Guo Shier couldn’t say anything. Ku Mu couldn’t comprehend the scriptures, nor could he understand that Guo Shier was reincarnated as a human. He could only mumble, “It’s nothing. I was just searching for knowledge about this inheritance and unconsciously started speaking.”
Ku Mu shook his head slightly but didn’t press further. He clearly felt that Guo Shier was repeating something, and the soul vibrations he caused were cyclical—definitely not related to any inheritance content.
Monier gave Guo Shier a cheerful hug, then released him and said, “You dumb oaf, why ask so many questions!”
Guo Shier sighed in relief and smiled, “The rewards this time are huge. Master, you’ve advanced, right? Hey, Masteress, you’ve even reached the rank of Great Sage Master!”
Monier said proudly, “Hehe, I’m finally almost on par with you, my dumb master. I was really lucky this time.”
Kumu nodded and said, “I’ve advanced. Ni’er, if it weren’t for Shier, we wouldn’t have been able to advance at all—we might even have died here… It was terrifying.”
Eagle Demon asked, “What happened? I didn’t sense any danger.”
Kumu explained briefly, and everyone began to break into cold sweats. Guo Shier also felt terrified. No wonder his master had mentioned luck three times. He was secretly glad that he had started reciting scriptures as soon as he felt unwell; otherwise, things could have been much worse.
