Chapter 003: Meeting Chenchen Again
“What kind of magical beast is this?” Du Fan asked in surprise.
“I’m not sure either. When I first encountered it, I thought it was just an ordinary puppy, hungry and cold on a rainy day, so I took it in. Unexpectedly, over time, it managed to rise to the level of a domain powerhouse. But there’s one thing that’s strange—usually, once a magical beast reaches the sacred rank, it can take on a human form and even speak human language. Yet, even after becoming a domain powerhouse, Da Hei still couldn’t transform into a human form, so it couldn’t speak either. To this day, I still don’t know exactly where Da Hei comes from,” the commander explained.
“I suspect Da Hei might be a divine beast,” the Dwarf King said from the side.
“I have the same feeling. Divine beasts can only take on a human form after reaching the divine rank. Given that Da Hei still can’t transform, it must be a divine beast,” the commander nodded in agreement.
“Divine beasts? Have you ever seen one before?” Du Fan asked immediately upon hearing their words.
“Of course. If we had seen other divine beasts, we would definitely be able to tell whether Da Hei is one or not,” the commander replied with a roll of his eyes.
“Divine beasts, as the name implies, can only exist in the divine realm. Divine beasts of the same rank are far stronger than other races of the same rank. That’s why there are very few divine beasts in this world. We’ve been in the Dusk Mountains for so many years and have never seen one,” Fei Le said as they walked.
“That can’t be true. There aren’t any divine beasts in the Dusk Mountains?” Du Fan asked, skeptical.
“That’s right. We really haven’t seen a single magical beast in the Dusk Mountains all these years. If there really are any magical beasts here, Da Hei is the most likely candidate,” the commander said with a smile.
Suddenly, Du Fan thought of another creature.
“What about dragons?” he asked.
“Dragons? Yes, dragons can be considered a type of divine beast, and they’re even extremely powerful ones. But there are too many species of dragons,” the commander replied.
“Dragons that have reached the divine rank usually enter the divine realm. Such dragons are known as sacred giant dragons,” the commander continued explaining.
So that’s how dragons and sacred giant dragons came about, Du Fan thought after hearing the commander’s words.
“But why, why would divine beasts like dragons stay on this continent? Wouldn’t it be better for them to go to the divine realm?” Du Fan asked in confusion.
“The dragons on this continent are just a small fraction of the entire dragon race. Most dragons are still in the divine realm. It is said that those who remain on the continent have some kind of mission to carry out,” said the Grand Commander.
“All the dragons on this continent have missions?” Du Fan asked again, puzzled.
“That’s right. They all have missions. But no one knows which dragons they are or what their identities are,” said the Grand Commander.
As they spoke, the three of them arrived at a wall adorned with bookshelves. The shelves were made of some unknown type of wood that emitted a deep purple glow and also had a delicate fragrance.
In front of the bookshelves, a slender sword suddenly appeared in the Grand Commander’s hand. He held the sword and drew strange symbols in the air above the shelves. After drawing about a dozen such symbols, the shelves suddenly split down the middle, revealing a passage before Du Fan.
“Du Fan, go in,” said the Grand Commander.
The passage wasn’t long—easy to see through at a glance. Not far ahead, a stone chamber could be faintly seen. However, between the chamber and the passage, there was a light barrier that obscured the contents of the chamber completely. From the outside, it seemed like just a stone chamber, with nothing inside visible.
Just before entering the passage, the Grand Commander and the Dwarf King pressed their palms against the walls at both ends of the entrance. Soon, a soft sound was heard.
When the sound stopped, the Grand Commander and the Dwarf King stepped into the passage first, with Du Fan closely following behind them.
The passage was only about ten meters long and didn’t contain any powerful spatial magic like those in front of the Divine Ruins. Soon, the three of them arrived in front of the stone chamber.
“Du Fan, go in. The Grand Commander and I can’t enter,” Phile said to Du Fan with a smile.
Hearing this, Du Fan hesitated no longer and stepped into the stone chamber. As soon as he stepped in, there was a soft sound, like a bubble gently bursting. Naturally, both the Dwarf King and the Grand Commander could hear it.
“Old friend, hearing this sound, maybe the restriction has been broken. Should we give it a try and see if we can get in?” the commander said with a smile.
“If you want to try, go ahead,” Phile said. “You try first. If it works, I’ll go in. I really don’t want to try again and get blown away by the restriction.”
“Since you don’t want to try, I’ll give it a shot. Hehe, it’s been hundreds of years. I’ve always wanted to see what’s in there—why we’ve been guarding it for so long.” The commander said with a laugh.
As soon as he finished speaking, he stepped forward to enter, but just as his foot reached the threshold, a massive force hit him, sending him flying.
Fortunately, the passage wasn’t very large. The commander crashed into the wall and struggled to get up.
It seemed he wasn’t injured, but for a master like him, one of the top fighters on the continent, to be in such a sorry state—if others saw this, they’d be shocked. What kind of power could easily send a master flying?
“Sigh, old friend. It seems it still doesn’t work. We’ll have to wait until Du Fan comes out and tells us what’s inside,” Phile said.
Meanwhile, as soon as Du Fan entered the stone chamber, he saw a stone bed in the middle. On the bed lay a woman—a woman of extreme beauty and allure!
Could this woman be anyone but Chenchen?
“Chenchen!” Du Fan shouted loudly when he saw the woman on the bed.
The moment he saw her, Du Fan’s mind went blank, followed by a sharp pain. After that, he was horrified to realize that the faint connection he had with Chenchen was gone.
Feeling this strange sensation, Du Fan became even more certain that the woman before him was indeed Chenchen!
“Chenchen, Chenchen, what’s wrong? Wake up!” As soon as he saw her, Du Fan rushed over, took her hand, and called out softly yet urgently.
Surprisingly, on the third time Du Fan called out, the woman on the bed slowly opened her eyes.
“Who are you? Who am I? Why am I here?” The woman, awakened by Du Fan, asked these three questions right away.
“I’m Du Fan. I’m your master, Du Fan. You’re Chenchen. After you used that space magic last time, you disappeared. So, you were here all along!” Du Fan said with delight.
Ever since parting with Chenchen, Du Fan would often think of her. He was well aware of his feelings—whether it was excessive dependence on her or just not being used to life without her. With the appearance of Nai Xiu, Du Fan gradually started to forget about Chenchen sometimes. But now, seeing her suddenly, he couldn’t describe the feelings he had—excitement, surprise, and surely more. There was also a sense that, no matter what, he could never let Chenchen leave his side again.
All along, Du Fan had often summoned Chenchen in times of danger, treating her like his guardian. Now that he himself had become a powerful realm expert, he felt he had the ability to protect her.
“Du Fan? I’ve never heard of him. Chenchen… this name sounds so familiar!” the woman said thoughtfully.
“It’s so confusing. I don’t seem to remember anything. I only remember that before I lost consciousness, there was a big battle,” the woman said suddenly, shaking her head.
“That’s right, Chenchen. Before we parted, we fought against Garfield and Leopold. Look, you’ve lost your memory again, haven’t you? When I rescued you back then, you also lost a lot of your memories,” Du Fan said.
“Chenchen, Chenchen… this name is so familiar!” The woman suddenly exclaimed. “Alright, I am Chenchen. You’re my master. So, do I have to obey you in everything?”
“Hehe, Chenchen, you’re finally remembering a little. Of course, you don’t have to obey me in everything. You’re much stronger than me. Often, it’s me who has to listen to you,” Du Fan said with a smile.
“My master, since you’ve found me, please take me home,” Chenchen said suddenly.
“Oh, home? Right, right, let’s go home,” Du Fan said quickly. Looking around, he asked, “Chenchen, how did you get here? I heard from the commander that they’ve been guarding this place for hundreds of years. Given how heavily it’s guarded, you shouldn’t have been able to get in at all.” Du Fan was puzzled.
Hearing that Du Fan wanted to take her home, Chenchen quickly sat up from the stone bed and stood. Responding to Du Fan’s questions, she began to answer him.
“How would I know? After you woke me up, I just found myself here,” Chenchen replied.
“However, Chenchen, there are too many secrets hidden within you—even you don’t know how many. Think about it; when we first met, there were also many strange things,” Du Fan said.
“Is that so? What was strange?” Chenchen asked, tilting her head suddenly.
“The last time I saw you was in the forbidden area of the Holy Church. Oh, right—after rescuing you from there, the people of the Holy Church have been searching for you. Remember, once you return, never show yourself casually, and definitely don’t interact with the high-ranking officials of the Holy Church,” Du Fan said earnestly.
“The Holy Church… such a familiar name.” Hearing Du Fan mention it, Chenchen frowned again, raising her head as she thought.
