Chapter 013: Beastly Behavior
Ordas stared at Du Fan. He had suffered heavy losses at Du Fan’s hands several times. Though he knew he could easily deal with this bastard by charging forward, the smile on Du Fan’s face made him hesitate to act.
Du Fan, however, didn’t even glance at him. He stared puzzledly at the statue, thinking about the figure that had disappeared earlier, filled with confusion.
That woman was Chenchen, who had been missing for a long time. Why had she suddenly regained her human form and come here alone?
Though, through the faint connection deep in his soul, Du Fan knew Chenchen would never harm him. Yet when she had called out to him in his mind earlier, she only responded with a faint smile.
But with his keen senses, Du Fan could sense a hint of confusion and urgency in her smile. Could this temple be related to Chenchen?
Although Du Fan knew, given Chenchen’s nature as a little fox, she would never do anything dangerous, who knew what might happen in a place untouched for thousands of years? He was eager to get to Chenchen’s side.
Du Fan scanned the surroundings, then stepped forward slowly. He stopped a few meters in front of Ordas and said, “Lord Ordas, and the other two lords… You’ve really gone through a lot this time… Those death creatures, even more numerous than ants, must not have been easy to deal with, right? So now… with the great battle over, how much strength do you still have left? Or should I ask, are you planning to fight me, or leave obediently?”
Nicholas’s face darkened. He wanted to say something but only let out a long sigh.
Alfred stepped forward, blocking Nicholas, and said coldly, “Lord Du Fan, remember this—though you are a rare genius, with your meager strength, you don’t even deserve to lift our shoes. Do you really think you’re someone important?”
Du Fan shook his head slightly and suddenly smiled ambiguously. “It seems Lord Alfred truly cares for Lord Nicholas. I wonder how long this relationship will last. Lord Nicholas… you should know that Lord Alfred is actually a spy from Roland Academy. As a divine magician of the Holy Church, you have not only betrayed your faith but also fallen in love with someone you shouldn’t… Do you think this counts as blasphemy to the great Light God?”
“And… if I remember correctly… you should be Lord Anthony’s adopted son, right? Lord Anthony has a bright future ahead of him; he might even end up sitting on that throne in the Holy City. As his adopted son, perhaps you too could wear that silver mask someday… Have you given up even that? All for this man who refuses to let go of his ambitions?”
Nicholas’s face turned pale. He didn’t know how to explain for a while before finally speaking in a strained voice, “Du… Du Fan… What do you know?”
Du Fan touched his nose and smiled lightly. “What I know… isn’t much… but it’s not little either. Everything I should know, I do know. Even things I shouldn’t know, I still know… If that’s the case, what exactly should I know?”
Nicholas’s face grew even paler, his teeth biting his lips so hard that blood appeared.
Alfred’s expression changed rapidly. Finally, he couldn’t hold back any longer and drew the knight’s sword from his waist, pointing it at Du Fan from afar. “Du Fan… If you say one more word out of line, I swear I’ll tear you to pieces in the next second.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a cold voice rang out, “Alfred, I also guarantee to you that if you dare move even a little, your dear Nicholas will turn into a block of ice. Although a divine magician is incredibly powerful, one whose divine energy has been exhausted is nothing at all.”
With those words, Tasia slowly stepped out from a corner of the temple. She held her short magic wand in her right hand, with magic flowing at one end—clearly ready to deliver a fatal blow to Nicholas at any moment.
Alfred froze for a moment. Though worried about Nicholas, he didn’t dare act. Du Fan kept coming up with one trick after another—who knew what else he had in store?
In the end, Alfred could only grunt and take a step back.
But Nicholas, whether out of shame or guilt, also couldn’t help but keep some distance from him.
Alfred’s expression turned extremely ugly, but he said nothing more.
Oldas, on the other hand, gave Tasia a strange look and sighed deeply. “It seems I underestimated Miss Tasia’s abilities. She was able to recover from the damage of my earth spirit combat energy in such a short time—it’s truly astonishing… The Holy Church truly produces outstanding talents. None of the people from the Divine Prison are easy to deal with.”
Tasia let out a grunt and said, “Oldas… why all the nonsense? After I deal with these two traitors of the holy order, it’s time to settle accounts for that ambush you tried on me back then.”
“Do you really think I’d let you take on those two here?” Oldas smiled faintly as his combat energy began to burn, though it was dimmer than before. He stepped forward and stood in front of Alfred and Nicholas, saying, “How about we settle our own accounts first? As for Alfred and Nicholas, you can deal with them later, Miss Tasia…”
Tasia waved her left hand, and instantly a gust of cold wind blew from nowhere, dropping the temperature in the temple significantly. Fine ice crystals even began to swirl in the air.
She tapped her magic wand a few times, intensifying the howling wind and snow. Amidst it, Tasia smiled gently and said, “Oldas… do you really think I’m afraid of you? Last time you didn’t kill me—it was your mistake. But I assure you, you won’t get another chance from now on…”
Her rare smile was breathtakingly beautiful, even possessing a touch of enchanting allure. Though Oldas only had Kris in his heart, he was still dazzled. Yet, his resolve was firm—his burning combat energy formed a wall that blocked the wind and snow outside.
She’s… truly a beauty… Not eating her just now was the biggest mistake of my life!
Du Fan lamented in his heart. He regretted it so much he felt like vomiting blood. If he had known this icy beauty could smile so beautifully, would he have stopped himself from pursuing her earlier?
This beast is indeed worse than an animal!
Du Fan was filled with countless thoughts, but under the pressure of these two powerful forces, his body trembled slightly.
This instinctive fear kept reminding him of how terrifying it would be if these two fought each other.
Another gust of cold wind made Du Fan shiver. He forced himself to summon his light combat energy to cover his body before whispering, “Let’s talk things out properly… Why do you two have to resort to violence?”
Oldas and Tasia glanced at him at the same time—one with disdain, the other with confusion.
Du Fan watched the two of them and clapped his hands, saying, “Miss Tasia, didn’t I tell you before? Unless my life is threatened, there’s no need for you to intervene. These three people here aren’t worth your effort at all. I can handle them myself… Don’t you trust me?”
Tasia’s eyes flickered as if she had thought of something. She smiled gently, and instantly the snow and wind around them dissipated. She gave Aldas a suggestive smile before vanishing into the darkness.
Aldas was baffled by Tasia’s sudden action, and coupled with Du Fan’s blatant disdain, he felt angry but still managed to maintain his composure, smiling faintly and saying, “Oh… It seems Lord Du Fan was well-prepared after all. But perhaps you could tell us what kind of trap you’ve prepared this time to deal with us?”
Du Fan smiled lightly and replied, “Setting up traps takes time, and it’s not worth it for people like you.”
Aldas’ expression changed.
Alfred suddenly roared, “Du Fan! Do you really think I’m afraid of you?”
Du Fan shook his head helplessly and said, “Lord Alfred, it’s better you protect your lover. He’s as weak as a newborn baby right now. If something happens to him, how will you get through these long nights?”
Du Fan’s words struck Alfred at his weakest point, and his momentum immediately waned. Although Alfred was usually irritable, his feelings for Nicholas were genuine. He was the only one in the world who could accept such an abnormal relationship. How could he bear to let him leave?
Aldas clearly still didn’t know about the deep bond between Alfred and Nicholas. Though Du Fan’s words had already given him some clues, seeing Alfred’s expression now confirmed his suspicions.
Thinking about fighting side by side with these two emotionally intense people in the Divine Palace, Aldas felt extremely uncomfortable. He instinctively stepped back a few steps, almost vomiting.
