Chapter 176: Xiao Yu and Bernard
Two days passed quickly. Belle and Bell’s son got along very well with the little one. One had been born just three or two days ago, while the other was less than a month old. Belle and Bell were pleased to see this, as after Belle rested for a few days to recover, she might have to prepare for ascension. It was indeed a happy thing to see her son make friends before ascending.
Ye Feng continued his usual routine—after carefully meditating on a certain boxing technique, he lay on the grass not far from the door, basking in the sun.
“Naming is such a hassle!” Belle slowly walked over, sat down next to Ye Feng, and complained to him.
“You just realize that now!” Ye Feng turned his head to look at the big black bear without showing much sympathy.
Belle held her head. “I’ve been thinking for two days, but I can’t come up with a suitable name!”
“Call him Benny or Bernard—they both mean strong and sturdy!” Ye Feng offered his suggestions.
He vaguely remembered that when he first started learning English, his English teacher had listed many English names along with their meanings and origins for everyone to choose from. Benny and Bernard both meant being brave like a bear. When the teacher presented these options, Ye Feng thought no one would choose such names, but the tallest guy in the class picked Bernard.
“Bernard sounds great!” Belle looked at Ye Feng in surprise. “I’ve decided. My son will be named Bernard.”
“Uh, so hasty? I was just guessing…” Ye Feng watched helplessly as Belle quickly got up and ran excitedly toward Belle. “But the little one does need a name. Even cats and dogs need names, let alone since it’s not just a pet.”
Ye Feng pondered what name to give the little one. Before long, a figure blocked his sunlight. He turned to see it was Situ Xuan.
“What are you thinking about, so absorbed?” Situ Xuan asked with a smile.
“I’m thinking about what name would be good for the little one!” Ye Feng winked at her. “Help me think of one too!”
“I’m really not good at naming. I’ve never named anyone before…” Situ Xuan said shyly with a smile.
“I think ‘Xiao Huang’ is too ugly, and ‘Xiao Jin’ is too vulgar…” Ye Feng said as if to himself.
“I think you have no talent for naming,” Situ Xuan criticized weakly after hearing the two names Ye Feng had come up with, which hardly could be called names at all.
“Who said that? I just namedBell’s son Bernard!” Ye Feng strongly protested against Situ Xuan’s criticism.
“Bernard sounds pretty good!” Situ Xuan wasn’t stingy with her praise.
“Give me a name, whether it works or not—just to inspire me. Maybe after hearing your name, I’ll be able to think of something other than Xiao Huang and Xiao Jin,” Ye Feng said, sitting up and smiling.
“How about… Xiao Yu? The ‘yu’ in feather! You’ve only been thinking about the color of its feathers so far,” Situ Xuan suggested. “Now you’re inspired, right? Come up with another one!”
“I think… Xiao Yu is great!” Ye Feng gave Situ Xuan a thumbs up.
“No way, that name is a bit too ordinary…” Situ Xuan said, a bit embarrassed.
“It’s very fitting. It already has feathers, so calling it Xiao Yu is perfect!” Ye Feng decided immediately.
“How’s your wound healing?” Situ Xuan changed the subject.
Ye Feng mysteriously raised a finger. “Shh, be quiet. Let me ask my dantian. It gets shy if it knows someone’s around.”
Situ Xuan covered her mouth and smiled secretly.
“Dantian, are you okay now?” Ye Feng patted his stomach.
“What? Oh…” Ye Feng put a hand to his ear as if listening, then nodded.
“It says it’s fine. It also says to thank you!” Ye Feng lowered his voice and whispered in Situ Xuan’s ear.
Situ Xuan also lowered her voice and whispered in Ye Feng’s ear, “Then please tell Mr. Dantian that there’s no need to thank me. It’s what friends are supposed to do.”
“Mm,” Ye Feng winked at Situ Xuan. “But Mr. Dantian just told me he’s hungry. Once he’s full, I’ll tell him, and he’ll be very happy!”
“I’ll go prepare some food!” Situ Xuan pointed to a place not far away.
Ye Feng also stood up and brushed the dirt off his clothes. “I’ll go with you.”
The two went to the house where Situ Xuan and Lǜluó lived, which had a kitchen.
“When do you plan to leave?” Situ Xuan asked while arranging a fruit platter.
“Let’s wait until Bell and Bailey are sent off; they’ll probably ascend in a couple of days anyway,” Ye Feng shrugged. “Although I have a friend waiting outside, after all these days, it doesn’t matter if it’s a few more days.”
“Oh…” Si Tu Xuan nodded in response and said nothing else.
The two brought out two fruit platters. These days, everyone would occasionally eat some fruit—not to stave off hunger, but to feel satisfied. Moreover, these fruits were almost all spiritual fruits from the forest, which could only bring benefits and no harm.
“Today is a good day—both little ones now have names! Let’s celebrate together!” Ye Feng grabbed a fruit from the platter, raised it high, then brought it to his mouth and took a big bite.
“Have you already thought of the name for the little one?” Bell was surprised.
Ye Feng didn’t take credit for himself. Pointing at Si Tu Xuan nearby, he said, “It was Miss Si Tu who came up with the name—Xiao Yu, meaning ‘feather’.”
He waved at the little one playing with Bernard, who obediently flew onto Ye Feng’s shoulder.
“From today on, you have a name—Xiao Yu!” Ye Feng gently stroked the delicate feathers on the little one’s body.
The little one seemed to understand as well. It turned its head, chirped at Ye Feng, and flapped its wings lightly. Though it didn’t show much excitement, it was clear it accepted its new name.
“My son’s name is Bernard!” Bell raised little Bernard high and shouted into the sky.
