Chapter 16: The Rescue Challenge

Komer sat alone in the room, clad in a loose black robe. The dim environment seemed to bring a sense of peace and tranquility—at least that’s how Komer felt. Sitting quietly, he tried not to think about anything, yet at the same time absorbed everything around him. His mind wandered far and wide, allowing his thoughts to expand infinitely without any constraints. With his eyes half-closed, his mind could be clear or chaotic, creating illusions that felt like a whole year in an instant—something that brought Komer great comfort.

The benefits of meditating alone for enhancing mental strength were obvious. All distractions from the surrounding air were excluded from his thoughts. He simply needed to explore quietly, taking in whatever insights he could. Little by little, these insights accumulated, just as drops of water form a pool or sand builds a tower. Komer could even feel the rapid growth and movement of power within his soul. It was the magic power nourishing his spirit. Only when his soul expanded to such a degree could he begin to grasp the mysteries of the magical laws.

“A ding!” A clear sound reached Komer’s ears, pulling him back from his deep reverie. Slowly, he turned his gaze forward. The holographic image gradually became clearer, like blurred light in water, appearing before his eyes.

Mahagumi’s sly figure appeared at the entrance of the courtyard. Komer frowned. Though he knew Mahagumi must have come for an important matter, the fact that it wasn’t the person he was waiting for still caused him slight disappointment. But he quickly adjusted his mood—those in high positions had no personal time.

With a light touch of his finger, the holographic image faded away, disappearing like smoke into the air, silent and traceless. Standing up, Komer stretched casually before pulling back the heavy curtains and standing with his hands behind his back.

Steady footsteps approached. What Mahagumi saw was still Komer’s not particularly broad back, but this did not diminish the reverence in Mahagumi’s heart. Every time he saw the lord, it brought him varying emotions he couldn’t explain. Even Mahagumi couldn’t understand why his supposed calm mind would become so subtly stirred in the presence of the lord.

“What is it?”

“My lord, I’ve begun to get some clarity on the matter you asked me to investigate.” Without permission, Mahagumi simply stood at the door. The dim atmosphere inside made him feel uneasy; he didn’t understand why the lord preferred to be alone in such an environment—perhaps it was a need unique to mages, and Mahagumi didn’t dare guess rashly.
“The matter I asked you to investigate? Which one?” It surely couldn’t be a trivial matter for Mahagumi to come all this way just for.
After looking up in slight surprise, Mahagumi replied, “It’s about Mr. Rebrí.”
“Oh?” Komer perked up. This matter had been ongoing for some time, but Mahagumi’s people had failed to gather more precise information. Meanwhile, other matters had kept Komer busy, and now that Homer’s affairs were being handled by Neptune, he had a little more free time. It was perfect that some progress had been made. “Explain in detail.”
“Mr. Rebrí is still imprisoned in the torture tower of the Marco Inquisition. Our people have been watching that place for a long time, but we haven’t dared to infiltrate or learn more about what’s inside. We only know that there are at least fifteen people around the tower—five of them are said to be high-ranking officials of the Inquisition, three are said to be saints from the Light Church, and three are quasi-saint knights. The identities of the other four are unknown. Their surveillance seems not very strict; usually, only two or three people are on duty at a time. Saturday seems to be the weakest point in their defenses, as generally only one Light Saint, one high-ranking Inquisition official, and two quasi-saint knights are on duty, while at other times there might be five to six people.”
Mahagumi felt somewhat ashamed. In truth, the information was still rather vague. It was extremely difficult to infiltrate the Light Church, especially the Inquisition. After monitoring the area for a long time and with the help of people inside the Salvation Society, they had barely managed to gather this much information. Mahagumi also knew that Mr. Rebrí was very important to his master, so he didn’t dare delay further and presented the more comprehensive information right away.
“Hmm. Are there any other dangers around the torture tower?” Komer had already turned around, his star-like eyes gleaming, his dark, profound eyes as unfathomable as the vast starry sky.

“Three kilometers away from the Prison Tower is Salisbury Church, an important site for the Church of Light. But usually, no notable figures are there.” Mahagumi had clearly compiled this information very carefully—her master wasn’t someone careless.
“Leave what you’re holding and go down,” Cohmer said after thinking for a moment, asking no further questions.
Staring at the background where Mahagumi disappeared, Cohmer fell deep into thought.
Perhaps it was really time to deal with Rebrí, but was he truly fully prepared? Marco wasn’t Jazair, nor Cyprus—a place one could come and go as they pleased. He had made quite a name for himself in Homer, and the Inquisition was well aware of it, yet they hadn’t shown any reaction yet, which made Cohmer uneasy. He didn’t like the feeling of constantly on guard, but provoking a conflict with the Church of Light under these circumstances didn’t seem wise either. However, if it was only aimed at the Inquisition—more precisely, just to rescue Rebrí—it might not be impossible.
Rebrí was very important to him, extremely important. Cohmer increasingly realized this. This guy, born into the Church of Light, was actually a saint-level figure with profound knowledge of the church, yet he had betrayed it—not just splitting from groups like the Order of Salvation due to doctrinal differences, but in a complete betrayal. Such courage and determination were truly remarkable. Moreover, this guy not only had extraordinary magical skills but also seemed to understand politics far better than anyone around him. In a way, Rebrí was more like a mentor and friend to Cohmer. Although Mihajevic was equally skilled in magic, he couldn’t engage in deep discussions with Cohmer on any topic like Rebrí could; he could only relate to Cohmer on a magical level.
Rebrí’s importance was beyond doubt, but with his current strength, would it be enough to rescue Rebrí from Marco’s grasp? Cohmer gently tapped the wooden table in the meditation room. Although Mahagumi’s information suggested that the prison’s defenses weren’t extremely strict, and the guard force wasn’t much to speak of either, this was just the surface. Cohmer believed the situation was more complicated than it seemed. It was likely that with Mahagumi and her group’s capabilities, they could only obtain such information.

Everything must be prepared and planned for the worst before taking action. One doesn’t have much strength at hand—Sorenberg and Vladkov can face those quasi-saint knights, while I, Mihajic, along with Clarence, and of course Uma. I wonder how he is now. Ever since he obtained the body of that Holy Maiden of Light, it seems that guy has disappeared. It seems the body of that Holy Maiden isn’t as easy to conquer as imagined.

Interesting. Komer also intends to ignore that guy. He wants to see if Uma, without his help and stripped of his original strength, has the ability to conquer the body and soul of the Holy Maiden of the Light Church. If that guy progresses smoothly, perhaps he could embark on a sensational adventure to Marco and test whether the infamous Inquisition is as unshakable as thought.

Komer has never forgotten the harm inflicted on him by Noroyla and Lorenzo. Although he isn’t arrogant enough to challenge the entire Inquisition head-on, dealing a severe blow to their arrogance in this alternative way is also quite exciting. Thinking about what Noroyla and Lorenzo’s expressions would be like if he could release all those imprisoned by the Inquisition from the prison tower, a faint smile appeared on Komer’s lips. Tormenting those losers of the Light Church seems to have become an indispensable part of his life. Amidst the complicated and dull military and political affairs, if he gets such an opportunity to vent his emotions, Komer certainly won’t give it up.

A clear “ding!” sound rang out again. Komer smiled slightly—the person who was supposed to arrive had finally come. With a light touch of his finger, the holographic image slowly reappeared in the air. A graceful figure emerged from the lush tree path in front of the entrance, walking gracefully toward this side. If it wasn’t Lomei, then who could it be?

Glancing at the dark-colored bed hidden in the shadows, Komer immediately imagined the snow-white, delicate body beneath the black sheets writhing beneath him, emitting soft moans; those bouncing breasts, long legs, and swaying pink buttocks—oh, it was truly intoxicating. It had been a long time since he had enjoyed such carefree pleasures. His sex with Kakiya was more like intercourse between two mantises guarding against each other, needing to be cautious lest the other devour them. Tracy felt more like a prostitute, a whore who sold her soul, giving him a sense of degeneration even as he relived the past. But this woman was completely different. Heh, before tormenting those scummers of the Light Church, it seemed he could find pleasure by enjoying the body of this woman from the Light Church.
