Chapter 714: The God of Poisonous Venom
The desolate outer voids of the celestial realm have received increasing attention since the Natural Guardians established the realm of Azeroth and formed their pantheon. Today, it witnessed the most bustling scene ever.
First, waves of true gods arrived in the Azeroth plane. Some, who preferred solitude, came alone or with just a few friends. Those who valued spectacle prepared entourages, leaving trails of brilliance and light wherever they went, as if the sun were rising and divine miracles were unfolding.
Regardless of who they were, any true god who manifested themselves today would display signs of their divinity in the void—this was a result of their respective powers harmonizing with the laws of the universe.
Of course, these gods came to wait for the events organized by the Natural Pantheon. If the previous “Festival of Laws” held by the Natural Pantheon only affected gods below the rank of mid-tier deities, this hunt attracted nearly 80% of the true gods to observe or participate.
Initially, only a hundred hunters were allowed to enter, scattered among thousands of gods in the Pantheon, so only a small portion could benefit. Yet, the multiverse had not seen such a resource-rich plane in ages. Most existing natural resources were tightly controlled by various pantheons and true gods, who occasionally shared a small amount with others—after all, resources were limited and could not withstand constant exploitation, requiring long times to recover.
Still, most of the true gods who didn’t qualify to enter showed up anyway. Since there was no guarantee of another chance, many were still waiting to see. If the results of this hunt convinced them, they would surely use every means to obtain an entry pass before the next event.
“If the Natural Pantheon can satisfy the gods with this event, just this one resource plane alone will make them the most popular faction in the Pantheon!”
A gaunt, sallow-faced man, seemingly ill and hunched over, spoke to someone beside him.
The being beside him was a short man shrouded in shadow, his true appearance hidden. He was one of the more well-known lower-tier deities in the Pantheon—King of Shadows, Thord.
Hearing this, the god of thieves replied:
“Whether these hunting efforts succeed or not, the rise of the Nature Pantheon is already inevitable. Not to mention the strength of their own pantheon, even their powerful allies—the Mysterious Lady, the Goddess of Abundance, and the Elven Pantheon with its two supreme gods—are all solid supporters of the Nature Pantheon. Just look at how their pantheon leader has been causing chaos in the Abyss these past years, weakening its forces greatly, yet the Nature Pantheon hasn’t suffered any losses at all—this speaks volumes!”
Indeed, just the emergence of the Nature Pantheon has already added eight true gods and several demigods to the ranks of the human gods, which has been welcomed by all members of the human alliance except for a few true gods.
At that moment, another sharp voice interjected, speaking in a somewhat dismissive tone: “Tord, you’re exaggerating a bit! His Nature Pantheon is currently thriving and has many allies supporting it, but once it’s in trouble, I doubt those allies will stand up for it!”
The speaker was another true god, the God of Disease and Plague, Lode.
This true god appeared as a very handsome young man. However, his pale skin, bluish complexion, and putrid smell that resembled that of a zombie made him look extremely ugly.
The God of Disease and Plague, Lode, had always had a poor relationship with the gaunt man who had spoken earlier—the God of Poison, Haquet—due to their similar domains. Initially, both had connections with the God of Thieves, Tord, and thanks to the Shadow King acting as a mediator, they managed to maintain peace. Their relations were fairly good. But ever since Tord joined the human true gods’ alliance a few years ago and, influenced by those powerful supreme gods, shifted his faction to Lawful Neutral, the God of Disease and Plague, Lode, saw him as an enemy closer to the Neutral faction, Haquet, and thus developed resentment. The balance among the three true gods was disrupted, and Lode, who was already narrow-minded, grew hostile toward both Tord and Haquet after several unpleasant encounters!
“The truth can’t be changed just by talking here. Anyway, I’m very optimistic about the prospects of the Nature Pantheon. Tord, you’ve fought alongside some of their true gods before. Could you possibly introduce me to that Lord Nature Guardian? I’m on my own with limited resources. My chances of advancing further are slim, so it would be great if I could join the Nature Pantheon. Even if I can’t join, getting to know them would open up more opportunities!”
Seeing Haquette eager to join the Nature Deity pantheon, Laod, who was not far away, despised the idea even more.
“I heard that the true gods recruited by the Nature Deity pantheon tend to be those who favor kindness. With your appearance and your shady aspects of divinity, they probably wouldn’t even want to associate with you! I think it would be better for you to join the Abyssal faction!”
Accustomed to Laod’s harsh words, the God of Poison didn’t mind much, but Princess Haquette did have concerns—after all, she was known for her skills in poisoning and mastery over toxins, which was quite different from the typical traits of the Nature Deity pantheon.
The King of Shadows didn’t object; in fact, he was somewhat hopeful, though uncertain. “Don’t worry. Most of the princes in their pantheon are kind-hearted and not superficial people who judge by appearance. Even if they’re not planning to recruit new members, they won’t embarrass you. It’s just that my relationship with the Nature Deity pantheon is only average—I’m not sure if I can help you make contact!”
Hearing this, Haquette felt relieved and smiled, saying,
“It doesn’t matter whether it succeeds or not. Just being able to meet those princes I’ve long admired makes this trip worthwhile!”
Seeing Told and Haquette engrossed in conversation, Laod, the God of Disease and Plague, felt jealousy and hatred. With a cold snort, he left to join the discussions among the gods of the Evil faction.
…
Not long after the gods gathered in the Kingdom of Azeroth, the gates of the kingdom opened, and all members of the Nature Deity pantheon came out to greet them grandly.
After exchanging greetings with the gods, the seven true gods and several demigods, led by Donald, the leader of the pantheon, got straight to business without much preamble. They led the gods to the Hunting Realm.
Donald waved his hand toward the Hunting Realm, and the scenery within it appeared in midair.
Seeing the vast and fertile realm filled with numerous abominable creatures, the gods present immediately lit up with excitement. Many true gods who had previously had the chance to obtain entry permits began to regret giving up so early—they wished they had persisted, as it would have been them hunting there instead!
Regardless of those true gods’ regrets, Donald dismissed the scene inside the realm before the hundred hunters entered, otherwise their abilities would have been exposed to the gods watching from outside.
The hunting event lasted only a day and night—a mere minute for the immortal true gods.
Soon, those hundreds of hunters returned victorious, carrying their catches. Storage equipment was unnecessary for the gods; even those who did not master the laws of space could use their divine power to shrink any object that could be stored to an extremely small size. Many gods who liked to attract attention generously displayed their treasures, and the other gods were filled with envy upon seeing the dense clusters of black dots within the spheres of divine power in their hands. Those were all divine abominations! Although most were only at the level of legends or demigods, their sheer number represented a vast wealth for any god below the higher gods. After announcing that the next hunt for divine abominations would take place fifty years later, the gods of the Nature pantheon sealed off the hunting realm and returned to the Kingdom of Azeroth. Most of the gods present dispersed, but some chose to visit the kingdoms of the Nature pantheon. The God of Thieves, Thord, and the God of Poison, Haquet, were among them. However, they did not approach the gods of the Nature pantheon right away but waited until all the others had left before coming to Donald’s side. After dealing with those gods, Donald was surprised to see these two gods together, one of them being the King of Shadows, whom he was somewhat familiar with. “Your Highness Donald, allow me to introduce you to Her Highness Haquet, the God of Poison. She has long admired you and the other gods of the Nature pantheon!” “Welcome to Azeroth, Her Highness Haquet!” Donald glanced at her with an inquisitive look. To be honest, Her Highness Haquet’s appearance was rather disappointing. Compared to the gorgeous looks of most gods, the gaunt and sickly-looking God of Poison was rather unattractive. After some conversation, Donald learned that she wanted to join his Nature pantheon. Honestly, Donald wasn’t satisfied with the field of poison—its potential for development was too low. Unless she was willing to change her divine role, there were no better prospects. But for a god, changing divine roles was extremely risky, potentially causing serious harm or even leading to destruction. Generally, gods would only consider changing their roles if they had a better option or out of necessity.
But Donald could see that the Goddess of Poison, Haequet, was truly sincere, clearly wanting to join his pantheon from the bottom of her heart. So he remained silent for a moment before speaking, “Your Highness Haequet, we are deeply honored by your kindness. But to be honest, your domain of worship is not suitable for our pantheon!” As Haequet showed disappointment, Donald continued, “However, if you are willing to change your domain of worship, I would be more than happy to have you join us. If not, I won’t force you! Please consider carefully and give me your answer, Your Highness Haequet.”
