Chapter 659: The Arrival of the Demon God
Compared to the other highly anticipated battles, the fight on Donald’s side appeared rather unremarkable. The slick serpent god Melshok faced off against Zareel, the ruler of hell who had just submitted to the King of Hell. Weakened by being punished for betraying the Abyss, Zareel was no match for Melshok alone, so Shevras, the newly ascended Elf God of Vengeance, joined forces with Zareel to fight against him.
Although some divine spells and supernatural powers had not yet been fully understood, the two most powerful legendary archery techniques from the legendary era—Starfall Arrow and Vengeance Tracker—had also risen to the divine level. It was as if they were magical beasts hunted by an Abyssal dragon, evoking a deadly sense of threat. Clearly, a full strike from this newly ascended god was capable of threatening one’s life. Thus, when fighting Zareel, Melshok had to reserve some of his strength to counter the opponent’s ambushes. As a result, none of the three could determine a winner in the short term.
As for Adat, the Queen of Harpies, she thoughtfully chose Donald, the seemingly weakest demi-god incarnation, as her opponent. Unbeknownst to her, she had chosen the most dangerous being present aside from the supreme god Loki! However, Donald did not reveal his full power to quickly eliminate his opponent. Instead, he slowly maneuvered against this harpy-queen while keeping an eye on the other battles, having other plans in mind.
It was only with the Death Staff in hand that Oscar truly regained the prowess of the former Lord of the Undead. Wherever his dark Death Domain spread, all things withered, the living decayed, and those not at the level of supreme gods had little resistance. On the other hand, the supreme god Loki did not use the power of his domain. Instead, several flames surrounded him, allowing him to move with agility like a snake-handling juggler, seemingly at a disadvantage. Yet the crimson-purple fire snakes treated Oscar’s Death Domain as nothing, as the laws of fire overrode those of death, enabling Loki to enter and exit Oscar’s domain without restriction or impact.
This was Loki applying combat techniques he had acquired in his past life, somewhat similar to the spells and artifacts used by the gods of the Pangu pantheon. First, he ensured he remained invincible. With the strength of a supreme god, Loki could already achieve a state where no force could harm him. Those fire snakes were like condensed versions of a true god’s domain—small in size but vastly more powerful.
The King of the Undead tried several attack methods, all of which were countered by the Fire Snake without causing any harm to its opponent. This situation made Oscar feel anxious as well, because the power he possessed at the level of a higher deity came from the Death Staff in his hands, so it couldn’t last long—after all, it was merely borrowed power rather than a true ability he possessed.
“So we must end this quickly. If we delay, our own power will weaken, and not only will we fail to win, but it will even be difficult to escape.”
Determined, Oscar decided to use his ultimate ability early.
As a once-mighty demon lord at the level of a higher deity, the King of the Undead possessed several powerful abilities that rivaled those of higher deities. Due to the decline in Oscar’s own power, some of these abilities were sealed and unusable, or their strength had diminished to match his current level. Now that he had temporarily reached the level of a higher deity, all these abilities were unlocked. However, several of them were designed to deal with enemies weaker than himself and wouldn’t be decisive against powerful higher deities of the same rank. So, without hesitation, Oscar chose “Descension of the Demon God,” an ability unique to him.
The once obese and bulky form of the King of the Undead was now filled with dark golden divine power. Amidst the intense glow, Oscar’s stature soared by dozens of feet, transforming him into a hundred-foot-tall demon god.
Through “Descension of the Demon God,” Oscar could burn faith energy to become a powerful and pure demon god, thereby overcoming the various disadvantages of being an abyssal demon creature. He would no longer be restrained by divine forces, and his life force and resistance would increase dramatically.
It might seem like not much—increasing the strength and physique of a bronze-level warrior by several times still kept them at the bronze level, unable to surpass their rank to become silver. But for a true god-level warrior, it would be completely different.
After all, the King of the Undead already had an astonishingly strong physique and resistance. With an additional increase, Oscar’s attributes would far surpass those of ordinary higher deities, allowing him to withstand attacks from multiple mid-tier deity-level warriors without harm.
Such a situation would undoubtedly be a nightmare for his enemies.
Indeed, facing Oscar in his demon god form, Loki frowned slightly. He no longer relied solely on magical flames for protection. Instead, a magnificent staff appeared in his hand, which he swung upward, instantly unleashing a flame cloud that covered the sky.
Carrying the power of heaven and earth, this flame cloud directly clashed with Oscar’s demon god body and his powerful domain.
The forces of the two supreme gods collided, and the resulting shockwaves were beyond even the control of the rules governing hell and the abyss, giving rise to countless forces of annihilation and spatial rifts. Seeing that the Demon God had arrived yet he couldn’t defeat it immediately, Oscar realized just how formidable his opponent was and summoned another form of divine power—the Power of Immortality. Unlike the Power of the Demon God, the Power of Immortality was a true divine power derived by Oscar from his role as the deity of death and undead creatures. As the demon lord who ruled over undead beings, Oscar’s ability to curse living beings surpassed that of many true gods; he could command or destroy any undead creature at will, and if necessary, the King of Immortality could do so with a single action. The greatest strength of the Power of Immortality lay in the fact that when it was used to control undead creatures, no matter where they were—whether in an avatar form or their true form—Oscar would be regarded as a powerful deity of supreme godly rank. This was also why the avatars of supreme gods could transcend ordinary divine rank limits; even a demi-god avatar could be granted the most basic powers of a supreme god if desired. Of course, such divine powers came at a great cost in terms of energy and sacrifice, and even supreme gods would rarely use them. Currently, Oscar’s own state was only temporarily at the level of a supreme god. If he used the Power of Immortality, his true form, which had just begun to recover, would surely lose strength and remain weak for at least some time—a very high price to pay. Yet, in order to regain his power, Oscar gritted his teeth and unleashed the Power of Immortality. This was probably his last chance to retrieve the Book of Doom and the Source of Evil. If he retreated now, he could recover his strength, but by then, his enemy’s deity would undoubtedly have grown much stronger, and with another supreme god and the most feared Elven Lord backing him, his chances of reclaiming his treasures would be nearly zero unless he could ally himself with Ostachius and Grant. So, despite lacking confidence, Oscar had no choice but to fight. After all, even if he failed, the worst outcome would be the destruction of his avatar and another weakening of his true form’s strength. He had already waited for a thousand years; spending another thousand years to recover wasn’t much of a burden for him!
