Chapter 658: The Power of a Higher God
The sudden appearance of a powerful lightning artifact caught the attention of all beings present. With the emergence of such an artifact, there must be a master controlling it—unless it was an unowned artifact. Judging from its formidable power, it was clearly aimed at the enraged lord Kosczerchi.
While others didn’t know who had suddenly joined the battlefield, Donald recognized the identity of the newcomer as soon as he saw the hammer artifact. Soon after, two divine lights descended upon the hellish realm, their immense power surpassing even the combined strength of the five greatest forces of the abyss—forces that included Oscar, the King of the Undead, a being beyond the rank of a mid-tier god!
Could it be?…
As everyone pondered, two divine figures appeared within the light.
“Donald, we’ve come to help you by order of our Father God!”
It was a tall and strong male deity speaking. With a wave of his hand, the lightning hammer fell into his grasp. He had a perfectly proportioned male physique and a handsome, square face adorned with a somewhat simple smile that added to his unique charm.
Behind him was a young man who resembled an elegant noble, appearing somewhat frail, but Donald knew how immense strength lay hidden within his thin frame.
“Welcome to hell. Thank you for coming to help. Thor, Loki, please convey my thanks to King Ignatz!”
The young man’s handsome face carried a hint of gloom as he nodded at Donald. It was Loki, the higher god who had been missing for some time.
Donald had long seen Thor’s Thunder Hammer and had a deep impression of this mid-tier artifact, which possessed some of the power of higher artifacts. Unlike Loki’s silence, Thor was very enthusiastic, seemingly full of energy at all times, lifting the spirits of those around him.
Now, Loki had partially regained his power as a higher god, while Thor, having become a true god, had attained the status of a lower god. Originally, Thor, who had just regained his soul and divine body, would have needed decades to steadily reach the rank of a higher lower god—even with Donald’s help. But Ignatz, once the supreme god Odin and now the ruler of the elves, was powerful enough to be considered almost a supreme god. With his power, it was no problem for him to help Thor recover earlier.
Ignatz still felt somewhat indebted to these two beloved children. Now that they could reunite across two universes, he naturally wanted to make amends properly.
Both of them now carry a strong sense of nature about them, clearly having received high elf bloodline from Ignatius, though there isn’t much change in their appearance. Yet it’s absolutely no problem to call them elves.
This situation made Donald nod secretly; it seemed the relationship between the three father and sons had been restored quite well. Otherwise, given Loki’s pride, he would never admit he was Ignatius’s son, let alone accept an elf bloodline.
“What?”
The conversation between the Nature Guardian and the newcomer shocked everyone present!
The two gods who came were actually children of the elf lord Ignatius—how well hidden that elf lord was!
Besides the several children of the elf pantheon on the surface, there were actually two more hidden, both of whom had become gods. One of them might even be of the supreme god level!
A pantheon having two supreme gods was a phenomenon that only occurred in the era of the ancient pantheons of the multiverse!
Although even the Abyss couldn’t confirm whether that god was truly a supreme god, it was certain that his strength was no less than that of a peak mid-tier god.
With such a powerful ally suddenly appearing in Hell, aside from Kosczerchi, the Frost Giant king whose mind was affected by anger and hatred, the other demon lords and evil rulers couldn’t help but feel uneasy, doubting the success of this mission.
Oscar, the King of the Undead, remained expressionless, his face dark.
In fact, no one knew better than him the true power of supreme gods. Ever since that being arrived in Hell, he could sense its divine strength, far surpassing that of ordinary gods. With his keen eyesight, he could clearly tell that it was indeed a supreme god.
However, it seemed to be in the early stages of becoming a supreme god. With his temporary breakthrough to supreme god status gained through the Staff of Death, along with his rich experience and tactics, he should be on par with a newly ascended supreme god. At the very least, he could draw the fight even. If he could hold off this supreme god while the others dealt with the other opponents in Hell—alongside Kapiri, the former ancient demon monarch who, despite his weakened strength, still possessed the power of a peak mid-tier god, and Kosczerchi, whose mind wasn’t the sharpest but could still unleash peak mid-tier god-level combat strength—then he was confident he could overwhelm those weaker opponents.
But the King of the Undead still hoped to persuade his enemy to turn back, after all, even in its prime, the power of the Lord of Elves was something to be feared. It already had enough enemies and didn’t want to add such a formidable foe!
“Elven God! Why help Hell and my enemy? Is the Lord of Elves also going to get involved in the struggle for power in the Abyss?”
The one questioned, Loki, remained silent, while Donald replied calmly, “King of the Undead, His Majesty Ignatius is merely helping me. Even if you involve the entire Abyss, no one will become your ally. Osthadius and Grant both wish for your immediate downfall and certainly won’t intervene. This is your last chance. It’s not too late to back down—at least you can live in peace in the Pale Lands. Otherwise, your doom is imminent!”
Oscar laughed bitterly in anger. “Gods, I know you have many mysterious tactics, but threatening a supreme deity like this is foolish! If you can return what belongs to me, then out of respect for the Lord of Elves, I’ll let bygones be bygones. Otherwise, I’ll chase you to the ends of the universe to reclaim my power!”
Donald sneered and said, “Are you still thinking about the Book of Doom? Though it was created by you, it’s nothing but a deception based on the true nature of the universe’s laws. I believe it’s far more powerful in my hands than it is in yours, that demon. As for the other one, it’s already sealed in a place no one can find—don’t even dream of getting it back!”
Oscar knew Donald was referring to the Source of Evil. Seeing that Donald wouldn’t budge, he realized it was impossible to persuade that supreme elven god with just a few words. So, he immediately communicated his plan to the other four powerful beings of the Abyss through telepathy and launched a sudden attack while Donald and the others were catching up.
Although Donald and Loki seemed to be reminiscing, they were actually prepared, keeping a close eye on the King of the Undead. As immortal true gods, they could easily divide their attention—unless they were in a fierce battle requiring full concentration, they rarely found themselves caught off guard.
“Perfect timing!”
The five powerful beings of the Abyss launched their attack. Thor, the more battle-oriented one, was the first to raise Mjolnir and confront them. His chosen opponent was Koshchechi, the mighty king of frost giants at the peak of his power as a mid-tier god.
Logically, Thor is merely a newly promoted lower deity, but both his combat experience and his unique nature make his strength far surpass that of ordinary lower deities. After all, this second-generation king of Asgard, known as the God of Thunder and the God of Strength, was once on par with powerful higher deities, not to mention that Thor wields his own divine artifact, Mjolnir. In contrast, though Koschei has attained combat prowess equivalent to that of a peak mid-tier deity thanks to the gifts of the abyss and his own divine role, he falls far short of Thor in terms of intelligence and combat experience. Of course, compared to true deities, the Frost Giant King possesses formidable combat strength. Among all demon lords, Koschei, corrupted by the Will of Anger, is perhaps the most obsessed with battle. Unlike the Destroyer Monarch, who fights to annihilate everything, the Lord of Anger hates out of fury and vents it through combat.
“Die!” The massive hammer made of cold iron in the hands of the ugly demon giant may seem huge, but it is merely at the level of a lower-tier artifact, far inferior in power to Mjolnir. With just one clash between the two artifacts, the cold-iron hammer shattered like stone, losing pieces. Although Thor is not as large as the Frost Giant King, his strength is comparable. Despite Koschei’s brutal ferocity in battle, he cannot overcome the equally wild God of Thunder. As a pure berserker warrior, Koschei rarely uses spell-like abilities in combat unless necessary, and he never retreats when enraged. Instead, it is these two whose battles create the greatest upheaval, as if every move shakes the heavens and earth.
Facing the Many-Eyed Tyrant Kapiro was Astymos, the King of Hell, also at the mid-tier deity level, though clearly the ancient demon lord Kapiro is stronger. The progenitor of these eye demons spread his numerous eyeball tentacles like a chrysanthemum, opening several demonic eyes and firing energy beams comparable to those of a demigod at Astymos. The King of Hell countered or dodged, turning the battle into a dazzling display akin to fireworks. Yet Astymos realized that the Many-Eyed Tyrant was not going all out; otherwise, a single strike from his main eyes or a barrage of all his eyes would be devastating! Astymos understood the Many-Eyed Tyrant’s intentions and tacitly cooperated with this ancient demon lord to stage this performance.
If the battles of the first two pairs were the most dazzling and most intense, then the fight between Loki and Oscar, two powerful gods of the highest rank, had the least noticeable fluctuations. This is because, as gods of the highest rank, they have achieved an extremely precise control over their own powers, allowing them to achieve their goals without losing even a fraction of their strength.
