Chapter 514: The Demon Hunter’s Avatar (II)
Having too many divine roles isn’t necessarily beneficial—excessive and chaotic roles can actually hinder the advancement of one’s divine rank. Therefore, many true gods tidy up their divine roles before preparing to ascend to the next stage, retaining only those that suit them best and have the greatest potential for development, while discarding the rest to use in crafting universal artifacts or exchanging with other true gods.
Most of the existing universal artifacts were created for this very reason!
Donald, who possessed extensive knowledge of true god domains, was well aware of this. Among his six current divine roles, Natural Protection and Divine Punishment were his primary roles, offering the greatest potential for development and serving as the main sources of his power. Alchemy and Blacksmithing, though newer roles, were crucial as they determined his chances of obtaining the status of Creator, so they too were indispensable.
A Demon Hunter, originating from the night elves, was undoubtedly the best choice among heroic classes for countering mages. It was essentially an enhanced version of the elf magic destroyers. In fact, as descendants of the high elves, the two groups shared a deep connection. There were rumors that the Demon Hunter class was inspired by the magic destroyers, with the target shifted to demons, and further developed into a method of harnessing demonic power for one’s own use.
This divine role was the perfect tool for Donald to deal with one of his most formidable enemies—the demon goddess, the Spider Queen, and her demonic minions. Thus, he would not abandon it at least until the threat from the Abyss was resolved.
Only the Summoner role came as a surprise; it was somewhat unnecessary for him. However, since Donald had started as a Summoner, he still had some affection for this domain. Moreover, his current divine roles were not chaotic or conflicting, so he wasn’t in a hurry to give up any of them.
After reflecting on these matters, Donald’s true form immediately entered the core of his divine realm to prepare for creating an avatar.
An avatar is an extension of a deity’s will and power. A true god can sense and know everything that its avatar senses and knows, and vice versa—provided there is no strong interference, such as being sealed or separated by cosmic barriers. An avatar separated from its origin gradually develops into an independent entity, even potentially becoming a new true god in another world!
As long as they are within the same universe, deities can command any of their avatars anywhere. A lower-tier deity with weaker divine power usually has at most five avatars. A mid-tier deity with moderate divine power can have ten avatars, while a higher-tier deity with strong divine power can have up to twenty avatars.
Of course, this is only in theory. In reality, if a true deity wants to create more avatars, it must possess sufficient divine authority.
For example, Donald, whose power far exceeds that of ordinary newly risen deities, currently holds six divine positions. As long as he has enough divine power, he can create six avatars. Even though he hasn’t yet officially become a lower-tier deity by ascending to a throne, other newly risen deities, even if they have their own divine kingdoms, can at most create only one or two avatars. After all, creating an avatar requires diverting a large portion of the deity’s core power.
A true deity who meets the requirements needs at least a year to create or destroy each avatar. During this time, the deity cannot do anything else and must continue the process from start to finish. If it is interrupted, the process must be restarted!
When Donald placed the true body of his faith deity at the center of the floating island at the core of his divine kingdom, his Law Deity form stepped forward to handle affairs on his behalf. Normally, other true deities would assign such tasks to their avatars, but Donald hadn’t yet left his main world. As a result, his avatar would be repelled by the rules of the material plane. Even with the Truth Book providing some protection, it would still face many restrictions, and its existence in the main world constantly drained divine power.
Although Donald felt his reserve of divine power was sufficient, he couldn’t afford to waste it, so it was better to use his unrestricted Law Deity form.
Creating avatars must take place within the true deity’s own divine kingdom. Of course, if the deity possesses the extraordinary divine power to do so, it can create avatars anywhere. This extraordinary power allows the deity to create creatures or magical items without any materials. However, the creatures or items created cannot exceed the limits set by the deity’s own rank. In any case, deities must adhere to the constraints imposed by their divine power in creating such extraordinary power.
However, the true gods who possess the divine power to create this extraordinary ability are fewer than the number of two fingers even among the gods of the multiverse. The prerequisite for mastering this extraordinary power is to have both the abilities to create objects and large structures, as well as the divine offices of creation and craftsmanship, and to have reached supreme mastery in at least one of these areas.
Those who possess this powerful divine ability are generally already considered creators, but merely having the divine power to create this ability does not necessarily make one a creator; a few powerful higher gods can also acquire this ability through their own formidable powers.
The process of creating an avatar took over half a year. Donald’s faith god remained seated in the palace at the core of his divine realm, with a divine core in his hands that kept changing and gradually improving over time. The divine core is a portion of a true god’s divine authority separated from itself, arranged in a structure similar to a divine persona, forming a power core that can carry the god’s will and strength and simulate the operation of a divine persona.
This core is the foundation of the avatar’s existence, equivalent to its divine persona. Once the divine core is imprisoned or destroyed, the true god’s avatar loses all its abilities. Therefore, capturing a true god’s avatar—since its core is akin to a divine persona—allows one to absorb part of that true god’s power. Thus, in the eyes of powerful beings in the outer realms who are comparable to true gods, true god avatars are extremely desirable prey.
Nearly three more months passed, and soon a full year would have elapsed. By then, the divine core before Donald had reached a complete state. Unlike a divine persona, the divine core appeared as a spherical energy body composed of brilliant starlight. Upon closer inspection, countless tiny structures made up of rules could be seen within it. These rules were almost identical to those in a divine persona, but their structure was relatively loose, preventing them from being as immortal and indestructible as a divine persona.
At this point, the process of creating the avatar was essentially complete. The next step was to focus divine power within the divine core to give the avatar its final form. This process was much simpler compared to separating and replicating one’s own divine authority—only controlling the output of divine power was required.
Thus, a twenty-foot-tall dark figure was quickly formed and stood before Donald’s true body.
Compared to the 45-foot-tall giant form of the Faith God’s true body, which had already reached the peak of a lower god, this new avatar appeared much smaller. Aside from still having Donald’s face, the avatar essentially took the form of a nearly naked male dark elf, with a strong physique containing terrifying explosive power. The dark blue tattoo-like magical patterns on its body added to its eerie allure.
“This Hunter of Demons avatar is indeed the best choice for hunting and fighting. All that’s left now is a few powerful demons to hunt so I can quickly boost my strength!” Donald murmured to himself as he moved his avatar’s body.
In general, an avatar is a weaker version of a true god, its abilities varying depending on the powers granted by the god. The avatar’s divinity is half that of the true god, and any reduction in the true god’s divinity level has a significant impact on the avatar’s abilities—such as damage reduction, resistance, the amount of divine power it possesses, the number of spell-like abilities it can use daily, its perception range, domain power, and the range of its sacred radiance—all of which decrease in proportion to those of the true body.
An avatar can possess divine powers that match the level of its true god’s divinity and the powers granted by that god. A deity can choose to endow the avatar with these divine powers at the time of creation, but the avatar cannot choose powers that don’t suit its needs or powers that the true body doesn’t have.
Furthermore, an avatar cannot possess another avatar, nor can it indirectly perceive or command the true god’s body.
Feeling the power of his avatar and looking at his empty hands, Donald shook his head. Since the power associated with the Hunter of Demons divine role was equivalent to that of a newly ascended god, this avatar possessed semi-godly strength and status from the moment it was created. It could also absorb power by hunting demonic creatures to further enhance its strength.
The only drawback was the lack of a true divine weapon and the necessary materials to craft one. So, Donald had no choice but to melt down his original pair of moonblade wheels, skillfully adding some Immortal Materials and bestowing two aspects of divinity upon them to recreate a pair of sub-divine weapons.
“I’ll call them Dark Moonblades!” Donald said, waving the newly created sub-divine weapons a few times. Though not entirely comfortable using them, they were still far better than fighting bare-handed. After all, the Hunter of Demons was an agile, explosive warrior adept at ambush attacks, and having weapons similar to scimitars or short swords was essential.
This is the second time Donald has created an avatar. The previous one, though more powerful, focused more on defense; without a divine artifact, it lacked the decisive killing power. When facing an equally strong opponent, it wouldn’t be defeated, but the chances of killing the enemy were also low. This Demon Hunter avatar, however, is completely different—every aspect of it seems to be designed for combat. Its agile build and powerful explosive strength allow it to inflict severe damage on its prey in an instant.
