Chapter 251: The Legendary Immortal Lich

A pure white light suddenly appeared above the gray necrotic mist, and several figures surrounded by radiance emerged in the air.
Donald quickly cast the first spell he had prepared. It was a level 5 spell called “Summon Loyal Servants,” which summoned up to four celestial beings from the heavens to fight for the caster. If the opponent belonged to the evil faction or was a dark creature, these celestial beings would gain enhanced combat strength.
This time, Donald’s luck was neither good nor bad—he summoned three Bronze-tier Mastiff Divine Messengers and one Celestial Angel at the peak of Silver tier.
“Allies of justice, please dispel the evil mist below and expose those who defy nature!”
These celestial beings took it upon themselves to eliminate all evil and negative-energy creatures, especially those from the Order and Justice faction. Once detected by them, any negative or dark evil creatures would be utterly destroyed. Celestial Angels from the Chaos and Goodness faction, however, might spare some dark species and negative-energy creatures that were not inherently evil.
The three Mastiff Divine Messengers immediately used assistance spells that most celestial beings could employ at will, then swung their swords downward, unleashing attacks filled with positive energy. With several slashes, the burst of positive energy quickly caused changes in the mist where negative energy gathered.
Three large holes appeared in the gray mist, allowing a view of the island below.
The appearance of this positive energy, the nemesis of undead creatures, immediately stirred up unrest among the many undead beings on the island. Even from above the mist, Donald could seem to hear the creaking sounds of countless skeletons moving.
The assistance spell, a level 2 divine spell, granted bonuses in courage and willpower to teammates in the same party, temporarily increasing their health and reducing the effects of fear, illusions, and similar threats. The more teammates there were, the stronger the benefits, making it ideal for group battles.
After the three Mastiff Divine Messengers attacked, the Celestial Angel followed suit. If the Mastiff Divine Messengers resembled humans with dog-like heads, then the Celestial Angel, if she did not change her form, appeared as a heroic woman clad in intricately designed silver armor.
Sensing the large number of immortal creatures below, the Celestial Angel frowned and swung her radiant, sacred great sword with one hand, while using her innate spell, “Scorching Radiance,” with the other.

A massive beam of intense sacred energy illuminated the mist below. The gray mist vanished just like snow under sunlight, dissipating over a large area. After two attacks by the four celestial beings, the undead mist on the island below was no longer as thick as before and could no longer conceal what was on the island. Seeing the dense swarm of undead creatures below, Donald and the others felt a chill run down their spines. The island, polluted by negative energy, was in a desolate and ruined state, with thousands of various undead creatures gathered in the open area below. Among them were all sorts of strange marine creatures, now reduced to either intact or incomplete skeletons. There were also some corpses that had turned into stiff, rotting zombies. At the center stood several human-shaped skeletons, waving their arm bones as if directing something! “There really is something going on!” Donald thought to himself. But the four celestial beings didn’t care about that. Without waiting for Donald’s orders, they dived down and attacked the massive swarm of undead. Although the tallest of the four celestial beings was only at the peak of the Silver rank, while most of the undead below were at the Bronze rank, with a few exceptionally strong ones at the Gold rank—clearly having been powerful in life and possessing great strength even after death—the sacred positive energy wielded by the celestial beings was their nemesis. Just the intense white light emanating from Caleb’s eyes as he shone it at the undead army below killed thousands of those at the Black Iron rank and hundreds more at the slightly weaker Bronze rank. This was Caleb’s innate ability to gaze, which could directly kill evil undead creatures at the Bronze rank from a distance of sixty feet. Even if some undead resisted the killing effect of this gaze, they would still be affected as if by a fear spell. However, its effect on non-evil or non-negative energy creatures was greatly reduced. One of the divine spells, the Level 7 Justice Gaze, simulated Caleb’s ability to attack. Seeing the four celestial beings wreaking havoc and decimating the undead army on the island, Donald wasn’t happy at all; instead, he felt deep sorrow. “These are all soul forces! With this attack, we’ve destroyed at least half of the soul flames needed to permanently summon a hero…” Seeing these undead creatures reminded him of the first time he obtained soul forces. Those terrifying undead armies now appeared to him as adorable, shining gold coins.

Yet the attacks of the celestial beings, rich in positive energy, destroyed the soul flames of most undead creatures. Donald tried his best to absorb them using the Soul Sphere from mid-air, but only managed to gather a little over a thousand units of soul energy. Unable to bear seeing his collected energy wasted by the celestial beings, Donald quickly summoned his companions to join the battle in order to obtain as many soul flames as possible. While Donald and his group fought their way through the undead army, on an altar made of bones at the island’s center stood a human-shaped figure—the same mysterious cloaked man who had spoken with the God of Iron Clanks earlier. Around the altar, nearly a hundred skeletons, zombies, and ghosts were praying devoutly. The only thing these undead had in common was their human appearance, indicating they had once been humans. As these “believers” prayed, a dim light flickered on a stone tablet atop the altar, with an illusory skull pattern constantly changing. Sensing the intrusion of outsiders, several of the “believers” were immediately affected, and the skull pattern on the tablet vanished instantly. The cloaked man let out a cold snort, as if carrying the chill of the underground, and with a wave of his hand, he led all the “believers” toward the nearby battlefield. Following the cloaked man’s lead, countless undead creatures hidden in the dark soil emerged from the ground and surrounded the open battlefield. On the battlefield, Donald and his group had already eliminated over 70% of the undead, and their Soul Sphere contained thousands of units of soul energy. This was partly because the soul flames of at least half of the undead had been purified by positive energy; otherwise, the amount gathered would have been even greater. Initially, Donald and his group hadn’t noticed any changes on the island. This island of the dead was only slightly smaller than Crab Island. Even Donald, a Golden Archmage, couldn’t cover the entire island solely with his mental power and needed to use magical abilities to observe it. However, the celestial beings, highly sensitive to negative energy, immediately sensed that something was wrong. With the warning from the Archangel Gabriel, Donald quickly noticed the gathering of soul flames around them. Clearly, they were about to be surrounded by the undead. Yet Donald wasn’t worried; instead, he was pleased. If these undead wanted to surround them, why not gather them together first and then eliminate them all at once? So, the five of them along with four celestial beings fought their way through the encircling undead army, killing them while waiting for their leaders to appear.

Yet when Donald saw the leader of these undead creatures appear, he couldn’t help but feel a shock in his heart! “It’s actually a rare naturally transformed undead lich…” Approaching them surrounded by a crowd of humanoid undead was a small figure. Donald could recognize from its black cloak that this was the being who had spoken with the God of Iron Clanks. But the face it revealed now was terrifying enough to make an ordinary person lose control from fear. Its dried face had only blackish-yellow skin clinging to the skull, looking even more frightening than a simple skeleton. Its red eyes emitted a strong sense of evil energy. With this form revealed, this being’s identity became obvious—anyone with some knowledge could tell it was a powerful undead sorcerer, a lich. Liches originated as an alternative method of rebirth invented by mages who lacked the ability to prolong their lives. By transforming themselves into undead creatures while retaining their spellcasting abilities, past strengths, and memories, they could achieve long lives to continue pursuing magic and conducting various experiments. However, such a method of extending life was considered the lowest form by most mages, and only those with limited power and no connections would choose to become liches. As this ritual spread through the ages, it was adopted by mages seeking immortality, resulting in most liches belonging to the evil faction. These undead sorcerers even formed a powerful force in the main world. Despite repeated suppression by stronger beings from other factions, they still exist to this day—proof of their tenacity and resilience. Most importantly, Donald could clearly sense the vast and powerful magical fluctuations emanating from this being—a legendary undead lich!
