Chapter 0034: Doubts
After a night, the maple leaves in Red Maple Valley turned blood-red, vividly crimson. Drops of bloody fluid fell from the leaves and seeped into the ground, becoming nourishment for the red maple trees. Standing high above, Yellow Dragon watched the valley, which had gone from violent chaos to complete silence, with a stern expression.
In just over an hour, nearly two thousand members of the Remnant Wolf Mercenary Group, including their leader Roesen at the peak of level 8, all turned into cold corpses. Against the overwhelming power of the three Sacred Realms, the outcome was unsurprising. Below the Sacred Realms, numbers might compensate for a lack of strength, but above them, numbers meant nothing.
“Young Master!”
“Master!”
After the two beasts and Bogge dealt with the Remnant Wolf Mercenary Group, they returned to Yellow Dragon and reported respectfully. Yellow Dragon nodded in acknowledgment. The Five Pits Divine Cauldron in his hand flew out, circled the valley once, and absorbed all the weapons and staffs on the ground. Thousands of weapons and staffs would form a small mountain if piled up, but the Five Pits Divine Cauldron seemed like an bottomless pit—no matter how much was absorbed, it never seemed full. After circling once, it reverted to its ring form and was worn back on Yellow Dragon’s finger.
Though they had seen Yellow Dragon’s powers before, the two beasts and Bogge still showed admiration and awe in their eyes.
“Let’s go,” said Yellow Dragon after finishing everything.
The two beasts and Bogge were stunned. Bogge asked, “Young Master, shouldn’t we clean up these corpses?”
Yellow Dragon replied indifferently, “No need. They’ll be useful later.” He also did not remove the formation surrounding the valley before flying back. Though puzzled, the two beasts and Bogge dared not ask further and followed Yellow Dragon back to their base.
By the time they returned, dawn was breaking. Yellow Dragon and his group continued on their journey. For him, what had happened last night seemed as if it had never occurred.
“Second Young Master, the people we killed yesterday were from the Remnant Wolf Mercenary Group,” said Ling Zhi, the guard, seeing that the second young master didn’t seem to care about yesterday’s events. He couldn’t help but remind him.
He had often heard the family head, Huang Xiong, talk about the Remnant Wolf Mercenary Group while in the Huang family’s estate, and he knew of their terror. Since they had killed members of that group yesterday, they would likely face a fierce ambush from them soon. The road ahead was difficult, and it was uncertain whether they could reach the Divine Wind Academy.
“Oh, and so what?” Yellow Dragon said with a calm smile, looking at the guards assigned to him by his parents.
Ling Zhi was stunned for a moment before sighing inwardly. Though the second young master was a super genius, he was still just a six-year-old child who didn’t realize the grave trouble he had caused yesterday.
Then, Ling Zhi had to explain in detail everything about the Scattered Wolves Mercenary Group to Huang Long, the second young master. Although he didn’t expect a child to understand much, he still had to make the second young master realize that they had caused trouble the day before and could no longer take the mountain path ahead.
“Not take the mountain path?” Huang Long smiled.
Ling Zhi nodded seriously.
Huang Long shook his head and said with a smile, “The mountain path is better. It’s quiet, shorter, and saves time.”
Upon hearing this, Ling Zhi looked anxious, but there was nothing he could do. Once the second young master made up his mind, no one could change it. What should he do?
Yet, the journey that followed was unexpectedly peaceful. For two consecutive days, there was no sign of the Scattered Wolves Mercenary Group coming to attack them; not even a trace of them was seen. What was going on? Could it be that the Scattered Wolves Mercenary Group still didn’t know? That was impossible—two days had passed; they surely must have noticed, as nearly a hundred people had disappeared, not just one or two.
The same confusion appeared on Du Dongnan’s face as he followed Huang Long.
“Second young master, there’s still no sign of the Scattered Wolves Mercenary Group. Could it be they don’t know?” one of theHill family’s guards couldn’t help but ask.
Over the two days, they had gone from anticipation to disappointment, and from patience to impatience.
“It’s impossible they don’t know,” said a ninth-level powerhouse in a deep voice.
Du Dongnan frowned. He also couldn’t figure out why the Scattered Wolves Mercenary Group hadn’t shown any signs.
“Since the Scattered Wolves Mercenary Group isn’t making any moves, we shouldn’t bother with them. Dongnan, let’s act tonight. The sooner we kill that Huang family brat, the sooner we can go back. Better to end this quickly.” The ninth-level powerhouse spoke up.
A cold glint flashed in Du Dongnan’s narrow eyes as he said, “Good. If that’s the case, I’ll personally send that Huang family brat to hell tonight.”
“The sooner we kill that Huang family brat, the sooner we can go back and hold a celebration!”
“Yes, second young master!” TheHill family’s guards replied loudly.
As the heat dissipated and night fell, another day passed. Du Dongnan didn’t act rashly. Instead, he lit advanced mind-altering bombs not far from where Huang Long and his group were staying.
Mind-altering bombs were drugs that disrupted people’s minds. There were lower and higher grades of such bombs. Lower-grade ones could be crafted by ordinary alchemists on the Hengyuan Continent, but higher-grade ones were much harder to make and hard to find in the market. Even below the Holy Land, a ninth-level powerhouse might be overwhelmed by the powerful effects of a higher-grade mind-altering bomb and fall into a deep sleep.
In Du Dongnan’s view, using advanced hallucinatory bombs was the best way to reduce casualties on his side. Watching as the bombs burned and spread toward Huang Long’s group’s camp, the few Huang family guards guarding the area eventually fell asleep due to the drowsiness and became motionless. After waiting a while longer, Du Dongnan sneered, “Let’s go over there.” “Wait a moment,” suddenly, a ninth-level warrior shouted, “Dongnan, don’t you think things are going too smoothly?” The smooth progress made this ninth-level warrior feel uneasy. Du Dongnan replied with a smile, “Lao An, you’re being too cautious.” “Even if those Huang family brats don’t fall asleep, so what? Do you think they can escape?” In Du Dongnan’s eyes, their side’s strength was about twice that of the enemy, so regardless of the outcome, it was inevitable. The ninth-level warrior thought for a moment and stayed silent. Seeing that Du Dongnan and the others had moved on, he had no choice but to follow closely. Upon arriving at Huang Long’s camp and seeing the several Huang family guards lying on the ground, stunned by the hallucinatory bombs, Du Dongnan said to the guards beside him, “You guys, go up and finish them off.” “Yes, Second Master.” Just as thoseHill family guards raised their swords to act, suddenly a voice rang out, “Du Dongnan, we meet again.” Seeing Huang Long and Bog appear, Du Dongnan and the surrounding guards were stunned. “You… you’re okay?” A hint of surprise appeared on Du Dongnan’s face. He then subtly signaled the ninth-level mage beside him, who understood and cast a fourth-level spell, “Wind Detection.” In just a few moments, after confirming that everyone except Huang Long and Bog had fallen asleep, the ninth-level mage nodded at Du Dongnan. With this confirmation, Du Dongnan, who had been somewhat worried, finally felt relieved. He laughed heartily and said, “Huang family brats, I didn’t expect you to be okay. That’s good—this saves us the trouble of waking you up later. If you died without even realizing it, that would be too boring.”
