Chapter 109: A Painful Choice – Drawing the Sword for a Hazy Beauty

The term “hero” has a broad scope and profound meaning, but throughout a thousand years of history, every hero has had to pay a heavy price for it.
Time passed slowly, yet those on the sidelines—both the evil and the righteous—refused to intervene. Looking at the scene, Aotian said coldly, “Don’t you call yourselves the righteous forces of the world? Why don’t you step in to save them? See? In just another moment, these people won’t be able to hold on. Don’t you want to help them?”
Qiong Ba smiled coldly and said, “I’m afraid of some villains plotting against us. Look, even your daughter is better than you—she knows to think of everyone else first. Take care of yourself first. If you don’t act now, I think you’ll never see your daughter again.”
Aotian retorted, “You…”
Looking at the scene, it was clear that many people could no longer hold on. The only ones who could last a while were the Wolf King, Qi, Lin, and Lan Ren. The rest were pale, their eyes confused—clearly exhausted from immense energy depletion. Especially Shui Er and Long Muyaa, lacking sufficient strength, were trembling all over.
The Great Sword King looked at Shui Er beside him and said, “Shui Er, you must hold on…”
Shui Er nodded. “I will. Even if I use my last bit of strength, I won’t back down.”
The Great Sword King smiled through tears. “Your two children at home will surely be happy to have a mother like you.”
Shui Er looked at him, her face showing a pale smile, but her body began to sway.
The Great Sword King’s heart ached deeply. Watching Shui Er about to fall while he was powerless to help the one he loved felt like having a knife cutting into his heart again and again…
The Wolf King looked at Shui Er and shook his head. “I’m truly glad Liu Yi has friends like you.” Though his tone was calm, his eyes revealed despair. The mutual suspicion between the righteous and the evil would soon be punished—those countless undead and thick miasma would soon make them realize their mistake.
By now, the Great Sword King was also drenched in sweat. Looking at everyone present, it seemed they might collapse at any moment, but their hearts were warm, their blood strong. For the belief in their hearts, they were willing to sacrifice their lives. Perhaps they were ordinary, perhaps unknown, but they were true heroes.
So, they shouldn’t die—because he had appeared. He would change everything…
As the ruthless arguments between the righteous and the evil continued, the ground began to shake, accompanied by a sound like horse hooves. Aotian exclaimed abruptly, “What is that? Has the Nine Nether Demon God awakened?”
Qiong Ba shook his panicked face and said, “No, it’s not that. Someone is approaching quickly—just ten miles away. From the sound, it seems to be a cavalry.”
The Wolf King was overjoyed and shouted, “Friends, hold on a little longer! The Demon Lord is coming! Look!” Everyone turned in the direction the Wolf King indicated.

Sure enough, when looking up at the sky, under the glow of the setting sun in the west, there was a dark figure—strong and tall, clad in black leather armor. His left hand rested on the long sword at his waist, while his right hand was behind his back. His black cloak and white long hair fluttered erratically in the wind. At his feet was a white tiger over ten feet long, with white wings on either side, flying swiftly toward them.

What was even more unbelievable was that twelve identical white tigers followed behind him, each carrying a man in black. These men wore special armor on different parts of their bodies and also carried long swords at their waists. Their faces were hidden by masks, but their eyes shone brightly in the darkness—clear signs of highly skilled swordsmen.

Yet, their astonishment didn’t end there. As the distance shortened, dust rose beneath the white tigers in the sky, along with the sound of hooves, suggesting that a cavalry unit was approaching rapidly.

Aodao asked, “Is it a horse unit?”

Qiongba shook his head and said, “No, it’s a pack of wolves.”

Looking in that direction, through the swirling dust and against the wind, twelve gray wolves were moving swiftly in a row. Upon closer inspection, each wolf was more than twice the size of the strongest horse. There were two groups of twelve wolves each, totaling twenty-four. Each wolf carried a man in black, with a long sword at their waist and the same determined gaze.

The wind scattered the yellow dust in the air, and as the distance narrowed, the swordsmen on the twenty-four wolves and the twelve white tigers moved at the same speed, advancing rapidly. At the forefront was the Lord of the Demon Realm, the ruler of Eternal City—Liu Yi. Under the glow of the setting sun, he resembled a god descending from the heavens to save all beings.

Long Muyaa, looking at the figure in the sky, said with her last strength, “Grandpa, is it a god who’s come to save us?”

The Dragon God also smiled weakly and said, “Perhaps. Or maybe he’s even more useful than a god. Gods don’t care about our lives; we’re just puppets created by them.”

Shui’er stared at that figure, who gradually became blurred. She could hold on no longer and slowly collapsed. She had used up all her strength—this was not her fault; she had only one breath left.

Looking at the figure in the sky, Lan Ren, Tianjiao, and Qiyue all said the same two words at once: “It’s him.” Perhaps their thoughts differed, but his appearance lit up their eyes: “That’s hope.”

Just then, a gap suddenly appeared in the yellow veil…

In an instant, two undead figures flew out—only their upper bodies visible, with no lower bodies. One of them rushed toward Tianjiao, while the other headed straight for Qiyue.

At that moment, the White Tiger in the sky let out a thunderous roar. Liu Yi waved his right hand, and a green light sphere instantly rushed toward the person on the flag. His powerful true energy immediately sealed thecrack gap. The White Tiger flew downward, and Liu Yi drew his sword, releasing a green light that flashed through the body of the elite, splitting the undead creature behind her in two. With a gust of wind, a wisp of smoke disappeared into the air.

Yet Liu Yi was still too slow. His position on the White Tiger prevented him from using the Sword Return technique, so he could only use the Sky-Slicing technique to kill one of the undead creatures. He didn’t know why he was helping the elite instead of July. He couldn’t explain it, but upon seeing her face, he felt compelled to draw his sword and save her!

The undead creature was incredibly fast. As it approached July, it grabbed her body and flew back in the original direction. July was too weak to resist. All she could do was use her eyes to take one last look at Liu Yi… Perhaps that way, she wouldn’t have any regrets.

Since July was no longer guarding the Demon Suppression Flag, a gap appeared in the yellow shield. The undead creature that had grabbed July rushed in through the gap and vanished without a trace. Although Liu Yi poured in his powerful true energy to keep the undead out, it was still too late. The gap closed, and July disappeared forever into the mist of Fengdu Ghost City…
