Chapter 96: A Confusing Conversation
Having experienced the power of a photon cannon, how could Nikola not understand its severity? Seeing the barrel reflecting a silver glow in the sunlight, with its dark muzzle aimed straight at his head, filled him with despair.
He knew that with just a slight thought from Ye Feng, his head would be blown to pieces. Even as a vampire with strong regenerative abilities, brain tissue damage might be repairable, but losing one’s head meant it could never grow back.
“He’s completely powerless now. If you want to act, I can pretend I didn’t see it!” Just as Ye Feng was about to strike, a voice came to his ears. He recognized it as Pei Hong’s. Pei Hong was still standing with Long Tian and the others, using a secret communication method. “After all, it’s not my place to get involved in personal grudges! You can kill him now and settle this feud once and for all. But I suggest you think it over—after all, he’s now a useless man who can’t even move a finger!”
Ye Feng stared intently at Nikola. The words spoken earlier were clear in his ears. Though he didn’t know who had spoken, he didn’t need to.
However, his fury subsided slightly after this interruption. Taking a deep breath, he growled at Nikola, “What I really want to do now is use this thing in my right hand to blow your head apart. Tell me—why attack William and the others? Why kill William, Yi Fan, and Kristine!!!”
“I love Miss Kelly… from the first moment I saw her…” Nikola slowly closed his eyes. He knew his reason wasn’t convincing enough. “I killed them just to make Kelly lose her support, to force her to choose me… But it turned out I was wrong… After killing them, all Kelly felt was hatred toward me. So I decided to take my revenge on you, by killing her last source of support…”
A fierce glint flashed in Ye Feng’s eyes. He raised the cannon barrel high and slammed it down on Nikola’s head. Nikola’s broken teeth fell out through the gap in his swollen lips, and he spat out more blood.
He turned to look at Ye Feng in confusion.
“Get lost!” Ye Feng stared down at Nikola coldly. “Never appear in my sight again! Never approach Kelly!!!”
Nikola finally breathed a sigh of relief, his tense nerves relaxing at last. For a moment earlier, he had thought that Ye Feng, whose anger seemed uncontrollable, would kill him without hesitation. Hearing Ye Feng’s words, he realized that he had managed to save his life. Yet a hint of sadness flashed through his mind—he knew Ye Feng wasn’t joking; if he tried to get close to Kelly again, he would likely be killed…
Seeing that Ye Feng hadn’t killed Nikola, Hank and Loli exchanged surprised glances. Pei Hong glanced at the still-living Nikola, then turned to Ye Feng with an approving look in his eyes before walking over to him.
Ye Feng approached Hank and Loli. “Are you two okay?”
“We’re fine…” Hank nodded.
At that moment, Pei Hong’s voice came from behind Ye Feng. “Ye Feng, could we talk for a moment?”
Ye Feng nodded and followed Pei Hong to a quiet place.
“Actually, we’ve already heard about you from Yuwen Zhuo. It’s said that just half a year ago, you were just an ordinary person?” Pei Hong seemed quite interested in this.
“Mm, about four or five months ago,” Ye Feng didn’t deny it.
“What happened back then that led you to enter this unfamiliar field from being an ordinary person? And why did you reach the Ningdan stage so quickly? If it’s inconvenient, you don’t have to tell! I’m just curious.” After asking these questions, Ye Feng became more cautious.
Ye Feng wasn’t planning to tell anyone about the Virtual Realm, let alone a stranger he had met for the first time. He politely smiled and shook his head. “I’m sorry, I promised someone not to reveal this, not even to my own parents, even though I’m an orphan.”
“I see. It seems I was indeed too forward.” A barely noticeable glint appeared in Pei Hong’s eyes, and he apologized slightly. “I just heard from Yuwen Zhuo that this spiritual beast was given to you by someone else. The person who gave you the spiritual beast must be the same person you mentioned, right?”
Hearing Pei Hong’s words, Ye Feng roughly figured out his purpose. He smiled to himself—since you think someone is backing me, I might as well make it seem true. With that thought, he nodded. “It’s the same person, but I can’t tell you anything about him. It’s useless for you to keep asking!”
Since it can’t be said, there’s no way to expose any flaws. When Ye Feng mentioned this, Pei Hong wasn’t discouraged at all; instead, his eyes lit up as he looked at Ye Feng as if he had discovered a treasure.
“Brother Ye Feng, did that… uh… senior leave anything else for you?” Pei Hong also started addressing Ye Feng as a brother, following Yuwen Zhuo’s example.
“Other things?” Ye Feng thought to himself. Could they have heard about the Void Realm? He asked carefully, “What do you mean?”
“The thing that can let us leave Earth…” Pei Hong gestured with his fingers.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Seeing Pei Hong’s gestures, Ye Feng realized he wasn’t referring to the Void Realm. Finally relieved, he shook his head.
Pei Hong saw that Ye Feng truly didn’t know what he meant. “Then may I ask why your cultivation speed is so fast? With no prior foundation, in just a few months, you’ve gone from an ordinary warrior to a strong practitioner at the Dan Condensation stage.”
“I’ve never seen the thing you mentioned. My cultivation speed is indeed a bit faster than ordinary people’s, probably due to my physique. I don’t know what you think the reason is.” Ye Feng shook his head firmly.
“Have you never used spirit crystals to assist your cultivation?” Pei Hong finally couldn’t hold back and asked.
“No! I have eaten some pills though!” Ye Feng’s answer was without hesitation. Under normal circumstances, this should be the truth.
“I see. Well, if not, it doesn’t matter!” Pei Hong shook his head in disappointment, walked away with his head lowered, muttering, “Mid-grade spirit crystals… At this rate, when will we be able to leave Earth…”
Ye Feng frowned slightly. He still didn’t understand what Pei Hong meant by leaving Earth, nor did he know what he wanted the spirit crystals for. But at this point, he felt powerless. A low-grade spirit crystal required 1,000 second-tier domain values in the Void Realm, while a mid-grade one needed 10,000—prices far beyond Ye Feng’s current means.
