Chapter 87: What Exactly Is This Thing?
After signing the contract, Ye Feng walked back toward the transparent container. He watched as the tiny creature, born less than an hour earlier, stopped flapping its wings and staggered toward him.
Ye Feng knew it could sense his presence. After the contract was formed, the little creature could detect his location.
It made its way toward Ye Feng, beating its wings against the container walls that blocked its path, emitting soft, childish chirps.
Ye Feng was delighted. He opened the lid and reached his right hand inside again.
The creature sensed Ye Feng’s hand and clumsily climbed onto his palm, flapping its wings happily and chirping at him.
Ye Feng gently stroked its small head with his other hand, smoothing out the fine downy feathers that hadn’t yet grown fully along its body. The creature stood still in his palm, allowing Ye Feng’s fingers to massage it.
“It’s really tamed…” Ed stared in disbelief at what was happening. “How is that possible?”
“What’s wrong, Ed?” Ye Feng asked, puzzled.
“Normally, wild beasts are extremely difficult to tame! If it weren’t for that strange contract method just now, I’d doubt whether it even is a wild beast!” Ed glanced at the obedient little creature in Ye Feng’s palm, his eyes filled with envy.
“Wild beasts are among the first forms of life to appear in the universe at its inception, almost born around the same time as the ancient sages. They possess great strength, immense wisdom, and outstanding talents. They are powerful beings second only to the ancient sages. They were once the rulers of the entire universe and would never easily submit to anyone. I also knew a friend with great strength who wanted a wild beast as a pet. He tried every possible method but failed—contracts simply wouldn’t form!” Ed continued. “He tried hundreds of times, captured dozens of wild beasts, but the result was the same every time he tried to form a contract!”
“Some people have also studied wild beasts. They believe the reason they can’t form contracts with humans is that they are the original inhabitants of the universe. The most primal blood flows in their veins, rendering certain universal rules ineffective for them—including the rules of contracts!” Ed recalled a theory he had heard before.
“So, it’s possible that this little thing isn’t a wild beast?” Ye Feng couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed.
“It might not have a pure bloodline. Of course, it’s also possible the problem lies with you!” Ed deduced this from the information he had.
“It doesn’t matter. I’ve already chosen it.” Ye Feng smiled indifferently and continued to tease the little creature in his palm.
“For initial feeding, don’t give it spirit crystals—you need to inject spiritual energy yourself. But with your current strength at the later stage of the Dan cultivation, feeding it once a day, in about ten days, you won’t be able to satisfy its hunger!” Seeing that Ye Feng didn’t want to continue discussing this topic, Ed shifted to another subject.
“What should I do then?” Ye Feng was clearly interested in this topic.
“Hand it over to someone at the Golden Dan stage to feed it in the same way for another ten days, then you can feed it spirit stones!” Ed shared his experience. “Feed it low-grade spirit crystals at first until it refuses to eat them, then switch to mid-grade ones—don’t spoil it!”
“Hmm, it started chirping, as if protesting! No matter how Ye Feng tried to calm it, the little thing wouldn’t quiet down.
“It seems it doesn’t like me very much!” Ed was also a bit frustrated. He had originally wanted to use this opportunity to study what species the little creature was.
“Never mind. Getting familiar takes time. We’ll take it slowly—it will end up liking you!” Ye Feng shrugged helplessly, placing the little creature on his shoulder, where it finally calmed down. It sat motionless on Ye Feng’s shoulder, looking just like a hen sitting on eggs, which made Ye Feng and Ed laugh.
Pushing open the door to the virtual realm, Ye Feng reappeared in the room—it was already past 8 a.m.
As soon as Ye Feng appeared, Long Tian and the others sensed it and rushed to his room.
“Where were you just now?” Long Tian asked in an accusatory tone. Ye Feng’s disappearance had worried him.
“I just went out for a walk!” Ye Feng didn’t tell the truth.
Although Long Tian didn’t fully believe Ye Feng’s words, he didn’t press further.
Hank, on the other hand, looked completely skeptical. He glanced at Ye Feng, lit a cigarette, and sat back down on the sofa.
Luo Li stared at the little creature on Ye Feng’s shoulder, her face filled with surprise.
“Is that… a chick?” Long Tian also noticed the furry little creature on Ye Feng’s shoulder and couldn’t resist reaching out to touch it!
“No!” Before Ye Feng could stop him, Long Tian let out a cry as he covered his bleeding hand.
The little creature seemed to be crouched there, motionless.
“Was it… this thing that bit me?” Long Tian’s face showed disbelief.
Ye Feng held up his finger wrapped in bandage. “That’s right, it’s this little thing!”
“How is that possible? My physical strength is nearly ten thousand times stronger than that of ordinary people. Even a direct bullet hit wouldn’t leave any wound…” Long Tian was stunned for a moment before pointing at the little creature. “This thing definitely isn’t a chicken! Where did you get it?”
“Uh, someone gave it to me!” Ye Feng could only give a vague answer.
“The wound doesn’t seem to stop bleeding…” Long Tian watched the blood on the back of his hand, which showed no sign of stopping. “What exactly is this little thing?”
Ye Feng handed him a bandage. “If you don’t put it on, it will keep bleeding! As for this little thing, I’m not sure what it is either. It’s still in its juvenile stage, and it’s hard to tell what it will become in the future. Judging from its attack power, it could be considered a spiritual beast!”
Ye Feng didn’t reveal anything about the wild beast, as that was still uncertain. He could only temporarily say that it was a spiritual beast.
Seeing Long Tian get bitten and bleed by the little creature, Luo Li stepped out of the room and hid behind the wall at the door, sticking her head out to quietly peek at the creature on Ye Feng’s shoulder.
Seeing Luo Li’s reaction, Ye Feng smiled at her and said, “It’s okay. Once it gets used to you, it won’t bite anymore!”
Luo Li nodded at Ye Feng.
“It’s time!” Hank, who was sitting on the sofa, stood up and called toward Ye Feng’s room. “It’s time for us to go!”
