Chapter 78: The Eve of Rescue
Late at night, on the balcony of a hotel room, a man sat in a lounge chair, wearing glasses and gazing into the distance. On the small black glass table in front of him lay a notebook, into which he occasionally typed something.
“Have there been any changes these past few days?” Long Tian leaned against the glass door separating the balcony from the room, arms crossed, as he stared at the notebook screen.
“No!” Ye Feng nodded. “It’s been four days in a row. He goes out for an hour every night, between 11 p.m. and 12 a.m.”
“So going out for an hour every night must be his habitual behavior! Is he out hunting? Looking for blood?” Long Tian frowned slightly.
“I don’t know. I just see him leave and return after about an hour!” Ye Feng shook his head. “If it’s not a habit, then it must be a trap to lure us in!”
“That’s unlikely!” Long Tian showed surprise. Hearing Ye Feng’s words, he also realized this possibility.
“It can’t be ruled out. He might have left a living witness to lure me here! In that case, his deliberate daily outings might just be to make us show up,” Ye Feng analyzed. “How’s eavesdropping going on your end?”
“It’s not working. Over the past few days, those servants seem like robots, always saying the same things, without a single extra word. The only change is that vampire—he greets Kelly every day and talks to her for a few words. But Kelly rarely pays him any attention! But this morning, when having breakfast, I forgot to wear my glasses. I don’t know if they said anything at that time.” Long Tian shook his head and sighed. “We can’t keep going like this! We need to take action!”
“He’s back. Look!” Ye Feng handed the glasses to Long Tian.
Long Tian saw a dark figure appear not far from the castle, then slow down as it headed toward the castle. It was the vampire count they had been watching for days.
“By the way, does he say anything whenever he goes out or comes back?” Ye Feng asked Long Tian.
“No. He doesn’t greet anyone. He just walks out straight away, and when he returns, he goes straight inside without saying a word to anyone!” Long Tian shook his head.
“Well, it’s been like this for four days in a row.” Ye Feng glanced at the timer on the computer. “One hour, one minute, and twenty-seven seconds!”
“He leaves between 11 and 12 o’clock every time, with no signs before he goes, and it takes about an hour for him to return each time. Based on observations over these four days, the longest duration he’s been away is one hour, ten minutes, and thirty-nine seconds; the shortest is fifty-seven minutes and thirteen seconds!” Ye Feng looked at Long Tian. “We’ll act tomorrow. We’ll hide near the ancient castle at 11 p.m. and strike as soon as he leaves!”
“Is there a better way?” Long Tian remained silent for a moment before raising a question that hadn’t been brought up in days.
Ye Feng stayed silent, closed his computer, rested his right hand on the glass table, covering half of his face, and tapped his temple gently with his index finger.
Suddenly, he stood up and turned to Long Tian. “I remember!”
“What?” Long Tian waited for Ye Feng to come up with a viable plan.
“Invisibility! We can become invisible!” Ye Feng laughed loudly.
“Invisibility? How?” Long Tian looked at him in confusion.
“You’ll see it right away!” Ye Feng said as he produced a ring from his hand, put it on his finger, and suddenly disappeared from Long Tian’s sight.
“That ring…” Long Tian stood there, mouth slightly agape…
“That’s right. It’s an invisibility ring that blocks light refraction, creating an invisible effect! And I just remembered that when this ring was designed, ultrasonic detection was also taken into account, so it can block radar detection too.” Ye Feng removed the ring, and his figure gradually reappeared.
“So even if that vampire or bat uses ultrasonic detection, they can’t see us?” Long Tian was excited, but soon frowned. “But you only have one…”
“I have two more! You and Kelly can both use them!” Two more rings appeared in Ye Feng’s other hand—ones he had purchased again in the virtual realm.
“Why not bring such a great thing out earlier?” Long Tian quickly snatched one from Ye Feng’s hand and put it on his finger. “Can you see me now?”
Ye Feng picked up a mirror and aimed it at where Long Tian had been standing. Long Tian exclaimed excitedly, “Haha, it’s a strange feeling—looking in the mirror only to find nothing there…”
“By the way, do you still have that detector? It seems pretty cool. Can you sell me one?” Long Tian removed his ring and stepped closer to Ye Feng.
“Well, that’s a bit expensive. I spent 8.4 million dollars on the basic product when I first bought it, and then upgraded it several times, spending over 130 million dollars in total,” Ye Feng stammered. You see, those upgrades consumed 122,700 domain points, and the initial purchase used 8,400 domain points—adding up to 131,100 domain points in total, which is equivalent to 131.1 million dollars.
“That’s too expensive! I can’t afford it!” Long Tian was shocked and awkwardly picked up the ring in his hand. “This one isn’t free either, right?”
“It doesn’t cost much at all—it’s very cheap!” Long Tian shook his head. In fact, although this ring only required a little over 800 domain points, that still amounted to over 800,000 dollars in terms of value. He didn’t feel comfortable mentioning it.
After hearing Ye Feng’s words, Long Tian still wasn’t entirely convinced, but he didn’t want to press further. If this ring turned out to cost tens of millions or even hundreds of millions of dollars, he wouldn’t know whether to use it or not.
……
At Hamilton Airport, two Asian women stood at the entrance, looking around in confusion at everything around them.
“Sister Yueer, where should we go to find Brother Long Tian and Ye Feng?” The shorter girl took off her sunglasses and looked at the other woman beside her.
“Well, let’s find a place to stay first, and then search slowly. We have photos after all!” Long Yue said as she took out two photos from her jacket pocket—one of Ye Feng and one of Long Tian. “As long as we find either of them, we’ll know where the other one is!”
“I thought you could get in touch with them…” Zhuge Ling’er’s voice sounded weak.
“Just treat it as a vacation. We’ve never been to Canada before anyway!” Long Yue tried to stay positive.
