Chapter 661: The Revived Pearl
Silence reigned beneath the arena, clearly in shock at what was happening, even the referee was stunned for a moment.
After a brief pause, as the referee was about to speak, another strange scene unfolded. Everyone stared in astonishment at the changes on the arena.
After devouring Xiao Ran, those black butterflies rushed at the Pearl once again.
Ye Feng dashed onto the arena, but was stopped by someone. This time, it wasn’t the chief referee but Nian Cangsheng.
“Calm down!” Nian Cangsheng ordered firmly.
Ye Feng glanced in surprise at Long Tian, who had blocked his path, before stopping and looking toward the Pearl not far behind Long Tian.
The black butterflies had bitten into the Pearl, but instead of causing her to lose her flesh and blood, she gradually regained some vitality.
“These butterflies are Hell creatures, possessing some powers related to life and death. Though just basic skills, they’re sufficient,” Nian Cangsheng whispered in Ye Feng’s ear.
Ye Feng finally remembered that the Pearl’s Hell Dark Butterflies were also Hell creatures, ones he had given to her. Clearly, the Pearl had benefited greatly from them. Since she could summon these butterflies to fight, they likely wouldn’t easily devour her. Moreover, judging by the Pearl’s condition, it seemed those black butterflies weren’t consuming her flesh. After all, it had only taken a few breaths for Xiao Ran to be completely devoured by those butterflies.
As her breaths steadied, the Pearl’s heart began to beat again. Though it was impossible to see how much her heart had recovered inside her chest, the faint heartbeat was clearly audible to everyone.
Not only Ye Feng on the arena but also everyone below held their breath, watching what happened to the Pearl.
As her heartbeat accelerated and grew stronger, her previously pale face from death gradually turned rosy. Her pierced abdomen and chest also began to heal visibly. One by one, the butterflies disappeared.
Once the last butterfly vanished, Ye Feng stepped forward quickly to check on the Pearl’s condition.
The Pearl slowly opened her eyes and looked at Ye Feng with confusion. “What happened? Why are you on the arena?”
“Nothing much. You won,” Ye Feng said with a smile. Seeing the Pearl awake, he finally felt relieved. He turned to look at the referee below. “It’s time to announce the result, right?”
The referee was stunned again and then looked at the chief referee not far away. Clearly, such a thing had never happened before, and it was difficult to make a judgment; he needed to consult the chief referee. The chief referee nodded at him, and only then did the referee step onto the ring and announce loudly to everyone, “In Ring Two, Pearl wins!” “Did I really win?!” Pearl was surprised, but more puzzled. “Yes, you also took down that guy who launched a sneak attack.” By this time, Long Tian, who had already ended his fight, also appeared on Ring Two and stood beside Ye Feng. “Why don’t I remember anything?” Pearl touched her forehead curiously. “I only remember that guy pretending to be controlled by me, then taking advantage of my approach to attack me. After that, everything went black… When I woke up, I was lying here… What exactly happened?” “Let’s talk about it when we get back!” Ye Feng helped Pearl up. “Let’s leave the ring first.” Pearl slowly rubbed her throbbing head. “Strange, why does it feel like there’s something extra in my head?” “Are you uncomfortable?” Ye Feng frowned slightly. He also suspected that the resurrection might have caused some side effects. Just then, Nian Cangsheng’s voice came again, “Third brother, don’t let her participate in the upcoming matches.” Ye Feng looked at Nian Cangsheng curiously, wanting to get an answer. “It’s hard to explain right now. She needs time to process what those butterflies injected into her body. It’s best for her to rest quietly and not engage in fights during this time,” Nian Cangsheng explained roughly. “I’ll explain the details to you another time.” Ye Feng nodded and said to Pearl, “Sis Pearl, maybe you shouldn’t participate in the upcoming matches?” “Yes, Pearl, you can’t even stand steadily. It’s better to rest!” Long Tian nodded as well. “Most importantly, in the upcoming matches, except for Ring Seven, the winners of the other rings are all our own people,” Ye Feng added. “Well then, I know my techniques aren’t suitable for using on our own people either.” Pearl nodded reluctantly, but mainly because her head was extremely swollen, as if someone had stuffed something inside it. Moreover, many memories had appeared out of nowhere, and she needed a quiet place to process them. “Xiao Feng, I’m going to rest first.”
As soon as the words faded, Pearl disappeared. Ye Feng knew she had rejected the Ultimate Battle Ark. Since Ye Feng had granted Long Tian and the others the privilege to enter and exit freely, Pearl and her group could come and go as they wished.
“Is she okay?” Long Tian asked worriedly.
“Don’t worry,” Ye Feng nodded and replied through telepathy, “I’ll find out right away what’s happening in the Ultimate Battle Ark.”
After saying that, Ye Feng walked over to the chief referee.
“Is there something?” The chief referee found this young man increasingly unfathomable.
“Pearl wants to withdraw from the remaining matches. Could you handle it, Chief Referee?” Ye Feng asked.
“That’s simple,” the chief referee wasn’t particularly surprised, as the resurrection earlier had already been shocking enough. He had no idea what price she had paid to do it. But in his view, resurrection must come with some consequences, so it was expected that she wouldn’t participate in the subsequent matches.
The results of the other matches also came in—Bai Yiyi, Long Tian, and Bernard all won their fights.
On ring six, the match between Ye Yu and Qing Wen also concluded shortly after. In fact, though both fought with all their might, they didn’t use any lethal moves against each other.
Qing Wen lost to Ye Yu by just one move, as her speed was inferior to Ye Yu’s.
No one was surprised by this result, as the two were evenly matched, and either could have won.
Due to Pearl’s withdrawal, from seven qualifiers, only six remained.
So, the chief referee added one more person to the match, bringing in Qing Wen, who had performed best so far.
Thus, in the top eight, six were from Ye Feng’s side, with only two outsiders.
The eight then drew lots again to determine the next matches.
There wasn’t much to watch in the subsequent matches.
Long Wen faced Ye Feng and lost after a brief exchange. Bai Yiyi faced Long Tian and also lost after a short fight. Ye Yu faced an outsider and took some time to knock them off the ring. Bernard easily defeated another opponent.
The final list for the quarterfinals was: Ye Feng, Long Tian, Ye Yu, Bernard.
This time, the chief referee didn’t use drawing lots but directly assigned opponents.
The matches became Ye Feng vs. Ye Yu and Long Tian vs. Bernard.
After putting up a fierce resistance, Ye Yu and Bernard eventually chose to surrender.
Ye Feng and Long Tian secured the final two spots in the championship.
