Chapter 570: Alien Creatures from the Main Plane
Sh Sherlock has been the ruler of the Fifth Holy Land for many years. Among his subordinates are even some powerful beings who have ascended to the main plane. Yet not a single one of his controllers has ever died before.
When he discovered that the souls of the three people inside the Sacrificial Tower had gone out, he was filled not only with shock but also with anger. Whoever did this was not only challenging his authority but also igniting his fury. After all, Berent was his true right-hand man—though not the strongest among the controllers, he had been by his side the longest and was the most loyal.
Seeing the dirty, severed corpses brought back by Ye Feng and his group, his mood plummeted even further. He had still held a glimmer of hope, but it shattered completely when he realized that Berent and the other two’s deaths were not a dream but reality.
“How did you find the corpses?” Sherlock asked in a cold tone, his gaze still fixed on the corpses without turning around. It was unclear whom he was addressing.
“I found them,” Pearl said, extending a finger. A black butterfly gently landed on the back of her finger, its wings fluttering slightly.
“The Purgatory Dark Butterfly… I see!” Sherlock’s expression didn’t improve at all. He merely turned his head to take a glance before nodding indifferently.
“Where were the corpses found?” Sherlock pressed further.
“At the mass grave north of Madel City,” Pearl replied helplessly, shaking her head.
“North of Madel City?” Sherlock repeated, then lowered his head in thought. It seemed he knew something.
“After completing our trials, Berent told us that they had other tasks to carry out. Could their deaths be related to those tasks? What exactly were those tasks?” Ye Feng raised his doubts.
Ye Feng’s question left Sherlock silent. He seemed hesitant about whether to reveal the whole story to him.
Ye Feng and the others patiently waited for his answer.
After a long while, Sherlock finally sighed deeply. “Some time ago, a strange incident occurred in Madel City. Every night, a family would be killed, and children would be taken away. The victims looked just like those three—their throats had been cut.”
“Did they go there to investigate this?” Ye Feng asked curiously. “Was there nothing else unusual?”
“There was. Not long before this happened, a meteor struck the ground nearby, causing a massive earthquake.” Sherlock nodded. “But that meteor appeared in a very strange manner, as if fleeing at high speed, and it vanished in an instant. We even went to that place to investigate. When we arrived, we saw only a crater still emitting hot smoke, with nothing inside it.”
“Was nothing left behind? Any strange smells or anything?” Long Tian asked, drawing everyone’s attention to him.
“Nothing was left, but there was indeed a strange smell,” Sherlock said, trying hard to recall. “It smelled a bit like the scent of milk on a baby’s skin.”
“Was the bottom of that deep pit oval-shaped?” Long Tian pressed further.
“That’s right. Did you see that hole?” Sherlock asked, puzzled.
“No, I guessed it,” Long Tian shook his head. “Were there any fragments like eggshells at the scene? No matter what color they were…”
“Yes… things that looked like metal shards…” Sherlock slapped his forehead suddenly. “Do you mean that thing wasn’t a meteor at all, but an egg?”
“Probably,” Long Tian nodded. “The current Fifth Holy Land is very likely the nest he chose.”
“What exactly is that thing?” Sherlock continued to ask.
“I’m not sure what species it is either,” Long Tian shook his head. “But if I’m not mistaken, it must be an alien race from the main plane.”
“Really?” Sherlock felt uneasy after hearing Long Tian’s words. As the ruler of the Fifth Holy Land and a strong warrior who loved reading, he had naturally heard some related information.
“What are alien races?” Zhuge Ling’er couldn’t help but ask again.
“Alien races refer to all the various races in the main plane other than humans, including humanoid creatures and magical beasts from other races. Most alien races hold extreme views toward humans,” Ye Feng explained.
“That’s right. Some even feed on humans, and there are quite a few such alien races,” Long Tian added. “There are also about twenty races that like to feed on children. I didn’t see them all in my past life, and with insufficient information now, I can’t confirm which race it is.”
“If it’s an alien race, then it would truly be a catastrophe,” Sherlock said with a bitter smile and a sigh.
“Why? It’s just one creature—what big deal can it cause?” Zhuge Ling’er asked, puzzled.
“It’s because many of these alien species reproduce asexually. There’s only one now, but in a few years, their numbers will increase exponentially,” Ye Feng explained. He had obtained all the information about these alien species from the library, so he knew some basic facts as well. “Their reproduction is like division—one becomes two, two become four, four become eight. This process can go on endlessly. You can imagine what will happen over time…”
“If that’s the case, it will indeed be very troublesome,” Pearl agreed.
“The most troublesome part is that this creature is extremely powerful. It was able to kill Berent and his two companions alone. Even if it attacked by surprise, its strength is far above that of those at the mid-stage Star level. In the entire Holy Realm, the total number of warriors at the Starlight level is less than three hundred, and those at the Star level are even fewer. This place is practically its paradise. The longer it stays, the more times it can divide, and its true strength will grow even stronger,” Ye Feng pointed out the two main issues. “So, I think the top priority is to find that creature and kill it. With just our Fifth Holy Land, it’s definitely impossible to handle this alone. We need to combine forces with other major holy lands.”
“I’ll contact the other rulers and ask them to bring their followers as well,” Sherlock agreed without hesitation. He was well aware of the severity of the situation. If they didn’t deal with that problem promptly, it wouldn’t just be a matter of a few deaths—entirely the Fifth Holy Land, no, the entire Holy Realm, including all seven holy lands, would suffer.
