Chapter 528: The Second Layer of the Abyss
Leaping down from that crack, Ye Feng’s body descended lightly. Once his feet touched the rocky ground, he looked around.
The crack above was nearly ten meters wide, though it was already thousands of meters away. The solid ground beneath his feet was quite large, with the walls on either side separated by hundreds of meters. Paths led in various directions ahead and behind. Extending his Soul Power, he finally detected the presence of living beings not far ahead, and he chose that direction, rushing off swiftly.
This narrow canyon wasn’t straight but had a twisted structure. After turning two corners, Ye Feng finally arrived in another valley.
Inside that valley, hundreds of oddly shaped beasts were surrounding over twenty powerful magical beasts from the Endless Abyss Sea.
These beasts were about three meters tall, with wolf heads, red eyes, and sharp teeth. Their front limbs had evolved into deadly weapons—twenty-centimeter claws that gleamed with a cold light. Though they stood upright on two legs, there was no doubt about their explosive power. Behind them was a long tail, with a sharp spike at the tip that emitted a purple glow, seemingly poisonous.
“Wolf-Headed Dark Demons…” Ye Feng frowned slightly. He had read about these beasts in martial classics. They were Hellish creatures, extremely brutal and bloodthirsty, with a strong sense of territory.
He also understood why these magical beasts from the Endless Abyss Sea had come here—wolf-headed dark demons were oviparous, hatching from eggs. Once hatched, even in their juvenile stage, they possessed strength on par with peak Deity-level beings. By adulthood, they reached Saint-level power, and by maturity, they became Saint-Envoy-level warriors. Before hatching, they were the ultimate prey for magical beasts. The spiritual energy contained in a single egg could save them years of hard cultivation, so naturally, they wouldn’t give it up easily. However, humans couldn’t consume such eggs directly, as their internal spiritual energy was too fierce for human bodies to withstand—though magical beasts could.
The powerful magical beasts surrounded by the wolf-headed dark demons noticed Ye Feng the moment he entered but were too preoccupied to pay attention.
But the wolf-headed dark demons, with their strong sense of territory, couldn’t ignore him. They sent a small group—over a dozen of them—to surround Ye Feng.
Ye Feng’s soul power extended once again, and in an instant, it located where the Wolf-Headed Dark Demons kept their eggs. Without hesitation, he sent out his soul soldiers, instantly killing the dozen or so Wolf-Headed Dark Demons that blocked his path and storing their corpses in his storage ring.
The twenty-plus powerful magical beasts watching this scene were deeply alarmed.
Ye Feng ignored them. Though few in number, they could still confront this group of magical beasts using some simple formations.
Seeing Ye Feng about to leave, one of them called out to him, “Human warrior!”
Ye Feng paused and turned around. “What is it?”
“Let’s make a deal!” The magical beast was in human form at the moment, and Ye Feng couldn’t tell what its true form was, but it was clearly one of those magical beasts with high innate intelligence.
“I’m not interested,” Ye Feng said coldly. “You’re just trying to buy time so that your three companions can steal all the eggs.”
With that, he exposed the magical beast’s scheme and quickly left.
The Wolf-Headed Dark Demons seemed to realize they couldn’t stop him either, so they stopped attempting to intercept, to avoid wasting the strength of their own kind.
Ye Feng rushed toward a cave he had detected earlier. At the cave entrance, many corpses of Wolf-Headed Dark Demons lay scattered on the ground. Ye Feng stored all of them in his ring. These corpses were of no use to others but were excellent food for the mother worms, so Ye Feng naturally wouldn’t miss such an opportunity.
As he delved deeper into the cave, there were more and more corpses. Ye Feng knew they were the work of those three Holy Spirit-level magical beasts. Even if they weren’t the rulers of the Endless Abyss, they were at least regional overlords. Meanwhile, the strongest magical beasts in this layer were only at the peak of the Holy Messenger level, far too weak to stand against those three powerful beings.
Ye Feng calmly collected all the corpses along the way before entering the cave.
The three powerful magical beasts had already slaughtered all the remaining Wolf-Headed Dark Demons.
Ye Feng immediately realized that the twenty-plus people outside were just bait, meant to lure out the main force here, while what remained were old, weak, sick, or young Wolf-Headed Dark Demons. It wasn’t until he entered the cave that he saw many smaller corpses of Wolf-Headed Dark Demons.
“Human warrior?” After Ye Feng entered the cave, the three powerful magical beasts stared at him warily.
Given their soul cultivation levels, no one should have been able to enter the cave without them noticing. Moreover, they couldn’t detect the strength of this human in front of them.
“I’m just passing by; you go on!” Ye Feng continued to look around, which only made those three powerful magical beasts more wary. “Human warrior, this Wolf-Headed Yin Demon egg is of no use to humans. I advise you to leave quickly. We can pretend we never saw you,” the three said in a tone that sounded rather hostile. “Since I’m already here, I certainly won’t go back empty-handed. How about this: I’ll take half of these eggs, and the other half stays with you,” Ye Feng proposed, a condition that seemed absurd to them. “Human warrior, the fact that you’ve come this far shows you’re quite strong. But by provoking us like this, it’s obvious you want to perish here.” One of the young men, appearing in his twenties, stepped forward, unleashing a powerful pressure aimed at Ye Feng. Ye Feng emitted his soul power, creating an even stronger pressure that instantly weighed down the three, leaving them unable to move. “How is this possible?” They were filled with shock. “Did you come from the upper realm?” “Do any of you three have any objections?” Ye Feng ignored their question and summoned his soul weapon, releasing a fierce sword energy that struck at their souls, causing them to waver. “Elder… we… have no objections… Take everything… we have no objections…” The three managed to force out these words. “Good. Since there are no objections,” Ye Feng thought to himself with a smile. If they had attacked first, he would have been at a disadvantage. But since they were foolish enough to try to overwhelm him with pressure, it was only natural for him, with a stronger soul cultivation, to overwhelm them in return. Yet he also sighed inwardly—after his dantian had been modified, it seemed no one could detect his true cultivation level. Otherwise, the three wouldn’t have reacted as if facing a formidable enemy the moment they saw him. “It’s useless for me to take all of these. I’ll take 70%, and you three can divide the remaining 30% among yourselves. I originally planned to take only half because I wasn’t sure about its effects. But since you attacked me, I must impose a slight punishment—taking an extra 20% from you. Do you have any objections?” Ye Feng pretended to be serious. “No objections, no objections…” The three were pale. After the pressure just now, their souls were nearly shattered, and they didn’t even have the strength to stand, so naturally they didn’t dare object. They had thought Ye Feng wouldn’t leave even a fraction for them, but unexpectedly, he still left 30% behind.
Ye Feng ignored the three of them and headed straight for the underground cave, where the Wolf Head Yin Demons stored their eggs. With a sweep of his soul power, he counted nearly three thousand eggs. He casually placed over two thousand white eggs, each nearly a meter tall, into the Sky Ring. Only then did Ye Feng notice one egg that was slightly smaller than the others but had a faint golden hue. “Wolf Head Yang Demon—yin gives rise to yang. It’s a variant of the Wolf Head Yin Demon, possessing intelligence no less than that of humans. In its juvenile stage, it can be fed with a thousand Wolf Head Yin Demon eggs. After consumption, it transforms into a Chaos physique. Once mature, it automatically transcends the Saint realm. With proper further evolution, it can achieve a Chaos Golden Body…” The information in the martial scriptures filled Ye Feng with joy. He had naturally heard of the Chaos physique; though not as powerful as his own Immortal Body, it was still very close, belonging to one of the peak bloodlines. If he could cultivate it, it would undoubtedly be a formidable combat power. The Wolf Head Yin Demon itself already had the strength of a peak Ancestral God at birth, so the Wolf Head Yang Demon, being its counterpart, was even more powerful, reaching Saint-level cultivation right from the start—far ahead of Xiao Bei, Xiao Yu, and the others. Ye Feng wasn’t the type to get bored easily. He would strive to help Xiao Yu, Xiao Bei, even Qing Wen Shi Tou, and Bai Yi Yi evolve to the peak level and become powerful beings in the universe. In fact, with Ye Feng’s help, their cultivation progress was fast—much faster than that of other magical beasts in the divine realm—though still slower compared to Ye Feng and Long Tian. The main reason Ye Feng took these eggs was to help them strengthen themselves. He also wanted to see if he could absorb them. But such an unexpected turn of events had indeed caught him off guard. After putting the golden egg into the Sky Ring and confirming there were no others, Ye Feng prepared to leave. The three powerful magical beasts finally managed to stand up, still pale, and slowly entered the basement. “The rest are yours,” Ye Feng said before floating away. The three were stunned. Seeing the dents in the ground and using their soul power, they realized Ye Feng had indeed taken only 70% of them. They were filled with mixed emotions—regret, relief, helplessness, or perhaps all of them. Leaving the Wolf Head Yin Demon’s lair, Ye Feng headed straight for his next destination, where he sensed signs of life. Though he knew it wasn’t human nor a magical beast from the Endless Abyssal Sea, he knew that wherever there was life, there might be gains. Without hesitation, he rushed in that direction.
