Chapter 501: The Codex

While everyone was still struggling to deal with their first opponent, Ye Feng had already encountered his last one.
As he had expected, the power of the laws at the Perfect Realm was far beyond that of the ninth layer—those beings at the ninth layer were not even a match for him.
The beast pen opened again, and a completely black feline creature slowly stepped out.
Ye Feng narrowed his eyes slightly. This magical beast was almost identical to a black panther on Earth, only larger in size—nearly three meters long, not including its tail. Yet, this size was actually the smallest among all the magical beasts Ye Feng had seen here.
He didn’t dare underestimate it at all, as he could clearly sense that this feline creature possessed the power of the laws at the Perfect Realm.
The black magical beast said nothing and began circling Ye Feng slowly.
Suddenly, in Ye Feng’s eyes, the beast turned into two, then four, then eight…
“This is…” Ye Feng frowned slightly. “The Wind Element’s Speed Law? Using rapid changes in speed to create illusions in the enemy… So there are magical beasts that use techniques combined with laws? Could it be that these techniques are part of their inherited memories?”
Having encountered so many magical beasts, Ye Feng realized that most of those at the eighth layer or above in this tower seemed to use techniques paired with laws.
Seeing Ye Feng create multiple clones, the black magical beast finally couldn’t hold back and attacked. Eight figures rushed at him from eight different directions at once.
Ye Feng immediately reacted, activating the Ice Heart Technique swiftly and attacking the eight figures.
One figure exploded away instantly, while the other seven gradually faded away. The black magical beast watched him coldly from a distance.
Ye Feng was surprised—the Ice Heart Technique hadn’t hit its target. This technique was known for its extremely fast attack speed, as its range covered everything within sight, and its attacks were highly concealed. Yet, that black magical beast had managed to sense these hidden attacks and dodge them in an instant.
After staring at Ye Feng coldly for a while, the beast moved again—its figure suddenly disappeared.
Ye Feng reacted instantly, firing the Sky Splitting Finger behind him, but it was dodged again. “So fast…”

The fake clone of that magical beast couldn’t defeat Ye Feng before, so it tried to win by overwhelming him with speed. But Ye Feng saw through its attacks time and again. As soon as the Sky-Rending Finger was unleashed, it sensed its destructive power and dodged at the fastest speed possible. The battle between the two reached a stalemate—the black magical beast couldn’t attack Ye Feng, and Ye Feng couldn’t attack it either. Ye Feng knew that to win, he needed another approach. Since almost all long-range attacks failed to hit the opponent, the only option was close-quarters combat. “Don’t think your speed is enough,” Ye Feng sneered. “I’m also a master at the perfect level of the Lightning Speed Law!” No sooner had he spoken than he disappeared. This sudden move startled the black magical beast, which, caught off guard, was kicked in the abdomen by Ye Feng and sent flying. “Heh heh, my speed isn’t any slower than yours!” As soon as Ye Feng spoke, a shadow appeared behind him. He immediately blocked and struck with a palm. The shadow dodged right away, but Ye Feng wasn’t planning to let it escape—he chased after it. The duel between the two was incredibly intense. If any other strong warrior were here, they would be utterly astonished. For in the arena, all that could be heard were clashes, with no sight of either man or beast. “Fortunately, I practiced the Hundred-Forged Vajra Body earlier, raising my physical strength to super-divine level. Otherwise, in such close combat, I might have been at a disadvantage. But thankfully, though this black magical beast has a strong body, it isn’t as specialized in physical strength as the one-eyed giant I encountered before. Its strength is only on par with mine,” Ye Feng thought to himself. He had to admit that he had indeed encountered a formidable opponent. The black magical beast grew increasingly panicked. In front of this man, its once-prideful speed advantage vanished, and its hope of winning through its magical beast physique was shattered as well. This abnormal human, through some unknown cultivation method, possessed physical strength comparable to its own. “Hahaha… So satisfying!” Ye Feng laughed loudly, his voice echoing throughout the arena. For the first time in the divine realm, he had met someone who forced him to use his full strength, and he finally understood his own capabilities. If he combined the Destruction or Sealing Law with his own Speed Law, winning wouldn’t be difficult. After all, this black magical beast only knew one law—speed—and Ye Feng didn’t want to overwhelm it by relying on the number of laws he possessed.

After several hours of intense fighting, the black magical beast suddenly withdrew from the battle. Seeing it retreat, Ye Feng did not pursue it, wanting to find out if it had any special moves left. Unexpectedly, the magical beast finally spoke, “Human, you are indeed strong. If I only used this level of strength, I truly wouldn’t be your match, as you have reached the first stage of perfection with at least three laws. I admit I enjoyed our sparring, but we can’t continue…”
“It seems you still have some strength left?” Ye Feng narrowed his eyes slightly.
“I sealed my cultivation power to stay at this level. If I continued fighting you, I fear I might break the seal. So, I admit defeat in this battle against you.” The black magical beast slowly turned and walked toward the beast pen.
“Why stay at this level?” Ye Feng shouted.
“I’m waiting for someone. Only by staying at the first level can I see him…” The black magical beast paused briefly, then turned around and said, “By then, I don’t want you to be an obstacle to me. Otherwise, I’ll kill you…”
“The first to achieve ten consecutive victories is Dao Feng!” The old man’s voice came from all directions, and Ye Feng was instantly transported back to the first floor of the tower.
Ignoring the voice, he pondered the words of the black magical beast. He even believed that the beast could truly kill him if it broke its seal, as he could sense the certainty in those words.
“Dao Feng, you’re the first to achieve ten consecutive victories. Please go to the first room on your left to choose your reward!” The old man’s voice reached Ye Feng’s ears.
Ye Feng looked up and indeed saw several rooms on his left, ones they hadn’t noticed before. Shaking his head to clear his distractions, he pushed open the door to one of the rooms.
The room was extremely spacious, with all kinds of pills and weapons on both sides. But against the wall opposite the door, there was only one item.
It was a thick book, floating in mid-air and spinning.
“What kind of secret manual is this?” Ye Feng couldn’t help but mutter to himself.
“This is a wind-type code,” the old man’s voice said.
“What’s a code?” Ye Feng was confused; he had never heard such a term before.

“It’s a technique that uses laws in combination. Ordinary techniques can at most enable one to exert 50% of the power of the laws. Only by using them in conjunction with manuals can one achieve 100%, or even 200%… Moreover, different manuals have different effects. The same law can also be practiced using multiple manuals, and different laws can also be practiced using the same manual, with varying results.” The old man’s explanation left Ye Feng stunned once again.

He immediately asked, “By your words, manuals must have different levels, right? The higher the level, the greater the enhancement of the law’s power.”

“That’s correct. Manuals come in four grades: Heaven, Earth, Mystery, and Yellow. There’s also a type that doesn’t fall into any grade, known as human-grade manuals. Though called human-grade, they actually don’t qualify as a proper grade; it’s just a general term for such gradeless manuals. They’re called human-grade because their maximum enhancement of the law’s power doesn’t exceed twice. Only those with an enhancement of more than twice can be called yellow-grade manuals. Yellow-grade manuals are further divided into upper, middle, and lower tiers, with enhancements of two times, three times, and four times respectively, with the highest not exceeding five times. Those achieving a five-fold enhancement are called mystery-grade manuals, which are divided into five tiers: lower, lower-middle, middle, upper-middle, and upper, corresponding to enhancements from five to nine times. Those reaching a ten-fold enhancement are called earth-grade manuals, which are divided into four tiers: lower, middle, upper, and supreme, corresponding to law enhancements from ten to nineteen times, twenty to twenty-nine times, thirty to thirty-nine times, and forty to forty-nine times. Those achieving a fifty-fold enhancement are called heaven-grade manuals. However, such manuals are extremely rare even in the Holy Realm, and I have no idea what kind of enhancement they offer.”

“What grade is this manual?” Ye Feng asked, pointing at the wind-type manual in front of him.

“This wind-type manual is of middle mystery-grade. In the Holy Realm, it’s considered a pretty good technique,” came the old man’s voice softly.

“I suddenly have a question. I’m not sure if I should ask it.” Ye Feng frowned slightly. He felt that the purpose of the Tower of Ten Thousand Beasts seemed rather inscrutable.

“You can ask,” came the aged voice again after a brief silence.

“You brought us here not just to deal with the rebellion, right?” Ye Feng waited for an answer.

This time, the Tower of Beasts remained silent for a long while. “My former master perished a long time ago. I want to choose a suitable person to be the master here. Since I can’t move, I had to choose from this realm. The strongest person in this realm, though only able to control the first layer barely, is sufficient for further cultivation. I can sense that there seem to be other spiritual treasures in your body as well, but their rank is higher than mine, so I can’t probe further.”

“This codex is quite good. I’ll take it!” Ye Feng roughly guessed that the Tower of Beasts intended to recognize him as its master, but honestly, this spiritual treasure wasn’t very useful to him. Jin needed it far more than he did. Besides, Jin had already used his Ultimate Repair Right, so his belongings weren’t much different from his own. Thus, he chose to change the subject.

Seeing Ye Feng shift the topic, the spirit of the Tower of Beasts also fell silent. It knew that some spiritual treasures were unwilling to share a master with others. It assumed that it was the spiritual treasure in Ye Feng’s body that caused him to refuse, so it couldn’t force anything. After all, choosing a master also depended on fate.
