Chapter 309: Meeting the Wild Beast Again
Ye Feng saw Wu Ze boldly enter the giant python’s mouth. After hesitating for a while and frowning slightly, he still followed.
When Wu Ze saw Ye Feng coming after him, approval flashed in his eyes, but the giant python’s gaze revealed greedy desire.
“Ba She, don’t lay eyes on him. Since he is a guest of our Black Witch Clan, you must treat him as one of us. Even after the contract expires, you must not harm him.” Wu Ze, who was familiar with the giant python, certainly noticed the greed in its huge eyes and knew Ba She was interested in Ye Feng.
“There’s no such rule in the contract, right?” Ba She clearly wasn’t convinced. “I promised not to attack your Black Witch Clan or the Wu Clan after the contract ends, but others are not included. Besides, the aura around this guy really makes my mouth water. I’m just puzzled—why would a human have the aura of a wild beast…”
“You know about wild beasts?” Ye Feng widened his eyes and stared at Ba She. It was the first time he had heard this term from a magical beast other than Xiao Yu.
“So you’re indeed related to wild beasts? Have you come into contact with one recently, which is why you have its aura?” Seeing Ye Feng’s reaction, Ba She also looked curiously at him as he approached its mouth.
“I have a contract beast that is a wild beast,” Ye Feng said, avoiding the term “pet,” as it wasn’t well-received by magical beasts.
“What?” Ba She exclaimed in surprise before bursting into laughter. “You’re saying a wild beast formed a contract with you? Stop lying—consider who you’re talking to.”
“I’m telling the truth,” Ye Feng replied, also curious about why this giant python reacted this way.
“I’m also a wild beast. Don’t try to fool me. Wild beasts cannot form contracts with anyone! Even if they try, it’s impossible to succeed.” The giant python fixed its icy gaze on Ye Feng, clearly displeased by someone lying in front of it. “Because wild beasts are among the first life forms in the universe, their bloodline possesses immense superiority. Its power even surpasses that of the laws of heaven—it cannot be bound by contracts at all.”
“Then how did you form a contract with the Black Witch Clan?” Ye Feng raised his doubt. He had heard Ed mention something similar, but he saw a contradiction in the giant python’s words.
“The Ba Snake did indeed sign a contract with us, but it wasn’t successfully established. Our contract was nothing but empty words; even if it unilaterally broke the contract, it wouldn’t face any punishment.” Wu Ze helplessly spread his hands. “Rather than saying it’s bound by the contract, it’s more accurate to say it voluntarily complies with its terms. It’s not as heartless as you think.”
“Oh, it left it behind on its own?” Ye Feng hadn’t expected this seemingly erratic giant serpent to be someone who kept his word.
“Nothing much. Billions of years ago, during a battle, I was severely injured and on the verge of death, so I fled to this realm. A member of our Wu clan encountered me and, in order to heal me, stole forbidden techniques from his clan. When my injuries had mostly healed, the Wu clan discovered he had stolen those forbidden techniques and expelled him. He then founded his own Black Wu Clan, taking in those who were driven out by the Wu clan for various reasons. Since he was also expelled because of me, I signed this contract with him to protect them for billions of years. And this year is the last year…” As Ba Snake told this story, his eyes held a hint of sadness.
“So your contract was just signed but not successfully established?” Ye Feng asked curiously.
“That’s right. We tried every method, but it never worked,” Ba Snake shook his head. “Because the power of our bloodline can easily repel the power of the contract—a fact inherent to us and unchangeable.”
“You may not believe it, but I’m not lying. I indeed successfully signed a contract with Xiao Yu, and Xiao Yu is indeed a Wild Beast. As for why it succeeded, I’m not quite sure. Maybe it’s because its bloodline isn’t pure…” Ye Feng’s serious expression finally convinced Ba Snake a little.
“If the bloodline isn’t pure, then it’s possible… But your own physique must also have something special, otherwise it wouldn’t have succeeded so easily… You know, the power of a Wild Beast’s bloodline is extremely strong. Even if the bloodline isn’t pure, that power still exists, though much weaker. It’s not enough to form a contract with humans. After all, I know a few powerful Wild Beasts with impure bloodlines… None of them have successfully formed a contract with humans…”
“But you’re a Void Walker, so it’s possible you could successfully form a contract with a Wild Beast with an impure bloodline…” Ba Snake revealed Ye Feng’s identity.
“You know…” Ye Feng was also surprised that Ba Snake had figured out his identity.
“I knew as soon as I saw you. Void Walkers were extremely powerful beings in my era—they were ultimate cultivators who had many interactions with us, the wild beasts. Besides, your strength is so weak that it’s easy to tell at a glance,” Ba She said bluntly.
Ye Feng, who was criticized so directly for his weak strength, was speechless. He hadn’t expected this guy to speak so bluntly, showing no regard for others’ feelings.
“Since you’ve had interactions with my predecessors, you don’t need to treat me as just an after-dinner snack, right?” Ye Feng asked with a helpless expression.
“I do want to taste a Void Walker. I’ve eaten many things, but not Void Walkers. But that’s just talk—I don’t want to cause trouble. There aren’t many Void Walkers these days, and each new recruit has a powerful guide. Void Walkers are extremely protective of their own, so I certainly won’t provoke powerful ones just for hunger. I want to live, not die so early.” Ba She spat out his fangs irritably. “Void Walkers are a bunch of geniuses and madmen. Among those I’ve met, you’re the only one who seems a bit normal and easier to bully. Scaring you might be fun…”
“Uh…” Ye Feng was utterly speechless now.
“By the way, what breed is that wild beast that formed a contract with you?”
“I don’t know. Xiao Yu doesn’t know either…”
“Strange. Isn’t it in its inherited memories? Or are its memories damaged?” Ba She murmured to himself. “Then what category does it belong to? A furry mammal? Or a cold-blooded creature with scales like me? Or a flat-feathered bird?”
“It’s a bird… with wings and feathers. It’s the kind of wild beast that doesn’t get along with you…” Ye Feng said with a smile.
“As expected. I guessed that familiar sense of disgust must come from this. But your own Void Walker aura masked my aversion toward natural enemies, so I couldn’t be sure what that wild beast was. Since it’s a flat-feathered bird, its breed doesn’t matter. To us, it’s still a natural enemy…”
“Come in. I’ll take you to the territory of the Black Witch clan,” Ba She said, opening his mouth wider.
Ye Feng stepped into its mouth. Instead of the foul smell he had imagined, there was a strange, pleasant fragrance filling the vast maw, invigorating his spirit as it reached his lungs.
After Ye Feng entered, the Ba Snake closed its massive mouth, but the surroundings did not darken as a result. The two giant teeth at its mouth emitted a faint yellow glow, illuminating the entire space and creating a strange sight.
“What should we do now?” Ye Feng asked Wu Ze beside him.
“Just wait. It will take about the time it takes to drink a cup of tea before we arrive,” Wu Ze said with a smile at Ye Feng. After hesitating for a while, he couldn’t help but ask, “Are you really a Void Walker?”
“That’s right,” Ye Feng nodded. “Have you heard of us before?”
“Yes,” Wu Ze nodded. “Our clan’s progenitor was a Void Walker, as were several great shamans who came after him. It can be said that we of the Wu clan possess the bloodline of Void Walkers, though it isn’t pure.”
“Most of the forbidden techniques of our Wu clan are actually secret methods left behind by the progenitor and those great shamans. They are classified as forbidden because other people’s constitutions are simply not suited to practicing those powerful techniques. Practicing them brings only harm with no benefits, which is why our clan’s rules strictly prohibit such practices. Yet many people can’t resist the urge to glimpse those forbidden texts. Once they see them, they can’t help but practice secretly. That’s human nature—the more something is unattainable, the more one desires it.”
“That’s how your Black Witch clan came into being,” Ye Feng said with a smile. “Actually, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s part of the cycle of cause and effect, as well as the fate that binds the Ba Snake to your Black Witch clan. Fate, though governed by the laws of heaven, is even more unpredictable.”
Hearing Ye Feng’s words, Wu Ze fell into deep thought and remained silent. Ye Feng didn’t disturb his thoughts but instead observed his surroundings. Under the yellow glow emitted by the two giant teeth, Ye Feng saw that the space inside the Ba Snake’s mouth was quite large—covering nearly 200 square meters in area and about 100 meters in height. The surroundings were flesh-white, which Ye Feng realized was the color of the muscles inside the Ba Snake’s mouth.
To his surprise, there were also many scars on the muscles inside the Ba Snake’s mouth, resembling the traces of time left on a weathered building.
After a while, Ye Feng heard noises coming from outside, followed by vibrations beneath his feet.
“We’ve arrived!” Wu Ze raised his head to look at Ye Feng and nodded at him.
