Chapter 298: This Is the Demon Realm
“Where… is this?” Ye Feng slowly opened his eyes. He still felt a severe headache and was weak all over. His scarlet eyes had finally regained clarity, and he remembered clearly that he had fallen under the influence of demons. He only remembered passing out afterward and knew nothing about what happened next.
“You’re awake!” Xue Sha reverted to her childlike appearance once again.
Seeing Xue Sha, Ye Feng looked around skeptically and asked, “Is this the Demon Realm?”
“This is an isolated island that serves as the passage between the Demon Realm and the Human Realm,” Xue Sha nodded.
Ye Feng glanced around in confusion. It was a small island, covering only a few square kilometers. He could even see the edges of the island at a glance.
Contrary to his expectations, the island wasn’t barren or covered in bones—it was quite different from what he had imagined.
The island was covered with black fertile soil, with various plants covering 90% of its surface. Instead of monotonous green, the colors were vibrant, giving it a dreamlike appearance.
“Is this really the Demon Realm?” Ye Feng murmured to himself.
“Of course. What do you think the Demon Realm looks like?” Xue Sha replied as if it were obvious. “The Demon Realm is a huge floating continent in the Heavenly Realm, one of the three largest floating continents. Its territory also includes tens of thousands of floating islands around it. The island we’re on now is called the Gate of Taboos—it’s the entrance to the passage between the Human Realm and the Demon Realm.”
At that moment, Ye Feng’s gaze fell on two giant stone pillars in the center of the island. Pretending to be indifferent, he slowly walked in that direction.
“No need to waste effort. That’s indeed a portal. It’s easy to go from the Cultivation Realm here, but to return to the Cultivation Realm from here, you need a pass seal granted by one of the top three Demon Emperors of the Demon Realm. If it’s not one of the top three, two pass seals are required to open the door back to the Cultivation Realm. The seals can only be used once; after each use, they return automatically to the Demon Emperor. Those seals are heirlooms of the Demon Realm, and only those who have achieved the title of Demon Emperor and are of the ultimate demon level are qualified to possess them.”
Ye Feng ignored Xue Sha’s explanation. He walked over to the two pillars, trying to find some clues. Xue Sha didn’t stop him either; she just watched him with an expressionless face.
After a while, he finally gave up. Apart from a seal-like indentation on each pillar, there was nothing special about them at all. It was only the grotesque demon creature reliefs on the pillars that made Ye Feng realize that the aesthetic standards of the demon world were indeed different from those of humans.
Realizing he couldn’t escape, Ye Feng simply sat down on a large rock nearby.
“Aren’t you supposed to take me to see your First Demon Emperor? Why did we stop here?” Ye Feng voiced his confusion.
“This island, Forbidden Gate, is under powerful ancient restrictions. Here, one cannot fly, teleport, or use any means to cross the island. The only way to leave is to wait for a transfer island to appear. The transfer islands that connect Forbidden Gate to the islands on the edge of the demon world make a round trip every twenty days, and it should arrive today.”
“A transfer island?” Hearing Xue Sha say this, Ye Feng roughly understood what it meant. “There’s such a thing?”
“Don’t bring your ignorance from the human world to the demon world. There are countless things you haven’t seen here!” Xue Sha said proudly.
“Tch, what’s so great about it? Isn’t it just a big rock that travels between two islands?” Ye Feng said dismissively. “I’ve seen something like this in games I played when I was five.”
“You’re right—I really did say you didn’t understand.” Xue Sha glanced at Ye Feng. “A transfer island isn’t just a smooth rock. Although it’s not large, apart from the demon world continent and a few large islands below, the cities on the transfer islands are the most prosperous, with the highest population density.”
“People can actually live there?” Ye Feng asked in surprise.
“Of course. As a transportation hub, transfer islands are usually very bustling, which is also a major feature of the demon world.”
“Why don’t you use teleportation arrays?” Ye Feng was puzzled.
“Teleportation arrays aren’t available on every island, and they require crystal stones. So ordinary people in the demon world usually prefer to use transfer islands unless they’re in a hurry,” Xue Sha explained. “In the demon world, these transfer islands were created in ancient times by many powerful beings using their great powers. Indeed, they’ve brought a lot of convenience to the demon world.”
“You said before that the First Demon Emperor wants to see me. Why does he want to see me? Is it because of that palace?” Ye Feng suddenly remembered this.
“I don’t know. He didn’t say, and I didn’t ask!” Xue Sha’s expression turned icy.
“I remember you also saying that the other demon emperors want to kill me to get that palace, right?” Ye Feng pressed on. “Wasn’t that also the result of their meeting?”
“In other words, after you bring me to the Demon Realm and I meet that First Demon Emperor, whether I can leave his palace is one issue. And whether I can escape the pursuit of the other demon emperors in the Demon Realm if I manage to leave his palace alive is another troublesome problem.” Ye Feng knew his situation in the Demon Realm wasn’t optimistic.
“That’s not something I need to worry about,” Xue Sha said expressionlessly, looking at Ye Feng. “Whether you live or die has nothing to do with me. All I care about is bringing you alive before the First Demon Emperor. As for what happens next, I won’t get involved, nor am I interested.”
“Besides, your strength isn’t much weaker than mine now. There aren’t many in the Demon Realm who can match you. What’s there for you to fear?” Xue Sha added.
“I just don’t like trouble. I don’t like being chased, and I don’t want to kill people unless it’s necessary,” Ye Feng shrugged.
At that moment, a strong spatial disturbance came from not far away. Xue Sha raised her head, glanced in that direction, then turned to look at Ye Feng. “The Transfer Island is here. Follow me!”
Ye Feng glanced back at those two pillars, shook his head helplessly, and then followed Xue Sha in that direction…
