Chapter 242: An Ambitious Madman
“What?” Ye Feng’s face was filled with surprise upon hearing this news. He had not expected the treasure to be unlocked so soon, and currently, he only knew of four keys. One was in the Sky Sword Sect, one in the Beast Taming Sect, one in Fat’s hands, and another in Dil’s hands. As for the five-star-shaped key, it was unknown where the Demon Monk had hidden it. The key that used to be kept by the Alchemy Sect had also gone missing.
With only 100 days left and no news about the other two keys, Ye Feng grew anxious. After all, without all six keys, the treasure could not be opened. It was uncertain when the treasure would reappear.
After processing all this information, Ye Feng finally asked, “Are you sure the treasure will be unlocked in 100 days?”
“That’s right. Signs have already appeared in the Death Star Region—many stars are behaving abnormally. This is a precursor to the treasure’s unlocking!” Lilith shared what she had learned.
“Only 100 days left, and still no trace of the other two keys!” Ye Feng sighed helplessly.
“Let us figure out something about the other keys. You should focus on dealing with Dil and getting the key from him,” Lilith advised. “Dil is extremely dangerous. If we don’t kill him now and let him enter the treasure with the key, he will undoubtedly become its owner. He has the ability to eliminate all competitors without leaving a survivor. Unless everyone has a death substitute like you, even the strongest Immortal of the Nine Calamities in the cultivation world would fall to him.”
“I know. I already have a way to kill him!” Ye Feng said confidently.
“Really? What’s the method?” Lilith was surprised.
“Don’t ask yet. Help me find the Witch Tribe’s stronghold. I’ll wait there for him. As soon as he shows up, I’ll have a way to kill him.”
“Have you found a way to counter the death substitute?” Lilith asked in surprise.
“No!” Ye Feng shook his head. “I have another way to kill him!”
“Oh, since you already have a way to kill him, let’s find him now! I’ll go deal with it right away and inform you once I have news!”
“No need, Lilith. Just find theWitch Clan’s stronghold, and he’ll come to us on his own!” Ye Feng shook his head. “If you go looking for him, he’ll definitely be on guard. It’s not easy to catch him—after all, a cunning rabbit has three dens. I’ll wait until the day the treasure appears. If he wants to kill me, he’ll definitely show up.”
“Alright then. I’ll continue searching for theWitch Clan’s stronghold and let you know if I find anything!” With that, Lilith hung up the call.
Yet Ye Feng was pondering the news about the treasure about to be unlocked, feeling somewhat anxious.
Just then, the communicator in his hand rang again—this time it was Kastedio.
Ye Feng answered the communicator in confusion, as usually Kastedio and Lilith would discuss anything together. The fact that he was contacted twice this time seemed strange to him.
After answering, it was Lilith’s voice on the other end, sounding anxious. “BOSS, I lost my communicator. Don’t believe anyone who uses it to talk to you.”
“Was that you just now?” Ye Feng was shocked. He immediately realized who had been talking to him.
“It must be Dil who stole my communicator. He wants to know your next move.” Hearing Ye Feng’s words, Lilith confirmed her earlier guess. “You didn’t tell him anything, did you?”
“Is Kas by your side?” Ye Feng couldn’t believe that the Lilith speaking to him now was real.
“Alright, I’ll have Kas talk to you!” Lilith certainly understood why Ye Feng asked that, but such caution was a necessary measure.
“BOSS, do you need me?” Kastedio picked up the communicator.
“Wait for me at Fat’s place. I’ll be there soon. Talking through the communicator isn’t safe anymore.” After saying that, Ye Feng hung up and teleported to the entrance of the Houmulis base.
Once inside the base, Lilith and the others looked at him. “What did you tell Dil after he pretended to be me?”
“I just told him I have a way to kill him, and that I’ll wait until the day the treasure is unlocked,” Ye Feng replied truthfully.
“You have a way to kill him?” Lilith asked curiously.
“That’s right,” Ye Feng nodded.
“You didn’t tell him how, did you?” Lilith was worried about that.
“No, he asked when he pretended to be you, but I didn’t tell him!” Ye Feng shook his head. “I just told him that as long as he showed up, I was sure I could kill him.”
“If that’s the case, he won’t show up!” Lilith shook her head helplessly. “At least not until the day the treasure is unlocked.”
“That treasure means nothing to him, because of his faction,” Lilith added. “With his cautious nature, he’ll wait until you leave after the treasure is unlocked before entering the Witch Clan’s stronghold to find a way to get rid of the death substitute.”
After hearing Lilith’s words, Ye Feng frowned deeply. If that was the case, he really wouldn’t have a chance to take action against Dil.
After staying silent for a while, he shook his head. “Let’s not worry about that for now. We must find the Witch Clan’s stronghold before him. If he gets there first and takes the clan’s secrets, staying there would just be a waste of time. I might even get killed by him.”
Ye Feng didn’t dare underestimate Dil. Having been tricked several times already, he knew how powerful the other man was.
“After finding the stronghold, I’ll go alone. No matter what happens, don’t approach it! I’ll bring everyone I know here,” Ye Feng said, a fierce look in his eyes. “That way, if he pretends to be one of you and tries to sneak in, I won’t listen to any explanations and will kill him right away.”
“That’s a good idea,” Lilith nodded. “With his personality, he’s likely to pretend to be one of us and approach there. In that case, it’s indeed hard to tell the truth from falsehood. As long as we don’t go there, no matter who he pretends to be, you can just kill him without listening to his nonsense.”
“That’s the only option now!” Ye Feng knew that if he wasn’t careful, he might still get killed by Dil. He already regarded Dil as his greatest enemy and had to avoid any loopholes he might exploit.
“By the way, is the treasure about to be unlocked?” Ye Feng suddenly asked.
“We were trying to tell you that news when we first contacted you. It was then that I realized my communicator was missing. I searched every possible place where it could have been left but couldn’t find it, so I suspected Dil had stolen it and immediately contacted you, worried that you might fall for it,” Lilith nodded. “We still haven’t told you—how did you know the treasure was about to be unlocked?”
“Dil told me!” Ye Feng shrugged helplessly.
“Why would Dil tell you such things?” Lilith asked, puzzled.
“He contacted me under your voice. He surely needed a topic to get me to talk! Besides, it’s unlikely for you to contact me for no reason under normal circumstances.” Ye Feng smiled. “So he had to use this as an excuse to reach out to me.”
“What did he say?” Fat finally spoke up.
“He said the treasure will be unlocked in a hundred days.” Ye Feng looked at Fat and the others. “He also said that many stars in the Death Star Region are behaving abnormally, which is a sign that the treasure will be unlocked.”
“Oh, he didn’t lie about this.” Fat shook his head and laughed.
“There’s no need to lie about this. If lying about such things leads to exposure, his goal won’t be achieved. Besides, he’s well aware that we already know this, so telling the boss in advance won’t have any impact at all.” Lilith spoke as if it were obvious. “A mix of truth and lies is often more believable than lying entirely.”
“So, the treasure will really be unlocked in a hundred days?” Ye Feng looked at Fat.
“That’s right, it seems to be the case for now!” Fat nodded. “All the signs point to it being unlocked in a hundred days.”
“But there’s still no news about the other two keys!” Ye Feng said helplessly.
“That’s not something you need to worry about!” Fat shook his head and laughed. “If there aren’t enough keys, you can’t get in, and neither can anyone else! You can leave all these matters to us. Your main task now is to kill that little scoundrel named Dil! You should know he’s a notorious guy. I’ve heard of his ‘glorious’ deeds even in the Immortal Realm. His reputation is even more famous than that of many hellish warriors at the level of Supreme Immortals. If you kill him, those angels in Heaven might even award you an honor medal!”
“Wow, so powerful!” Ye Feng raised his eyebrows. He hadn’t expected the opponent to be such a big fish.
“Though he’s lost much of his strength by escaping to the Cultivation Realm, he’s still not an easy opponent. If it weren’t for someone betraying him, he might already be a giant in Hell!” Fat shook his head and laughed.
“That strong?” Ye Feng hadn’t expected Dil to be so capable.
“In hell, the ruler in charge of trade is called Mammon, who possesses endless wealth. Dier is his most trusted subordinate. But Dier has long coveted his position and has been plotting to seize it. Eventually, his plans were discovered and he was betrayed, turning him into a fugitive in hell,” explained Lilith.
“It sounds like something only an ambitious madman would do!” Ye Feng shook his head; by now he had a pretty good idea of what kind of person Dier was.
