Chapter 166: Ownership of the Gloves
Although the auctioneer wasn’t sure about the grade of these gloves, it didn’t stop him from enticing the bidders present with his words.
There are generally only two possibilities when an appraiser can’t determine something’s value: either the gloves are just ordinary gloves, or their grade exceeds what the appraiser can assess. Of course, for these damaged gloves, there’s a third possibility—their extent of damage is so severe that the appraiser can’t arrive at an accurate conclusion.
But Ye Feng was certain these gloves were not from the cultivation world at all.
As the controller of the Second Domain, the detection function of the Void Domain would only display different colors when an item exceeded the boundaries of the Second Domain. Yellow indicated that the item was one rank higher than what the Void Domain’s authorized users could obtain—in other words, these gloves came from the Heavenly Realm.
Although Ye Feng possessed the Void Domain, his current authority allowed him to acquire only second-tier items. Now that he had stumbled upon an item that could only be accessed by unlocking the Third Domain in the cultivation world, how could he let it slip away so easily?
On the auction stage, the auctioneer finally announced the starting bid:
“Starting bid: two top-grade spirit crystals! Each increase must be at least two mid-grade spirit crystals!”
Ye Feng wasn’t in any hurry. He had no intention of raising the price right from the start, as that would arouse suspicion. Clearly, aside from himself, few people in this auction hall knew the true grade of that item.
The crowd hesitated about this unknown item, unsure whether buying it would result in something worthless.
“I’ll bid two mid-grade spirit crystals!” Ye Feng pretended indifference as no one else spoke up.
The others looked at him curiously. Seeing his indifferent expression, most thought to themselves, “This novice in the Yuan Ying stage surely doesn’t know what that thing is.”
However, someone tried to disrupt the bidding, “I’ll bid four mid-grade spirit crystals!”
Ye Feng glanced at the bidder—a lavishly dressed young man whose expression made it clear he had no idea what those gloves were.
After a brief silence, Ye Feng raised his bid again, “Then I’ll bid six mid-grade spirit crystals!”
“I’ll bid one top-grade spirit crystal!” The young man was clearly surprised that Ye Feng would keep bidding. He glared in Ye Feng’s direction angrily, seemingly as a warning.
Ye Feng ignored his warning gaze with a feminine undertone. “One top-grade spirit crystal, plus two mid-grade spirit crystals.”
“Add two more top-grade spirit crystals!” The young man was shocked that Ye Feng completely ignored his warning and grew furious.
“Two top-grade spirit crystals, two mid-grade spirit crystals!” Without even glancing at the man, Ye Feng added two more mid-grade spirit crystals the moment the man finished speaking.
“I’ll add three top-grade spirit crystals!” After shouting this price, the young man whispered to someone beside him, “I don’t care who he is, nor do I care who gets those gloves in the end. After today’s auction, get rid of him!”
“Three top-grade spirit crystals, two mid-grade spirit crystals!” Ye Feng still showed no mercy. The people around were quite amused by the back-and-forth between the two.
“I’ll add five top-grade spirit crystals!” The young man was almost losing control; he hadn’t expected Ye Feng to be so stubborn.
“Five top-grade spirit crystals, two mid-grade spirit crystals!” Ye Feng’s repeated increases made everyone laugh. He deliberately added only two mid-grade spirit crystals each time, just enough to keep the young man’s bid in check, making it seem like he was teasing him.
The young man tried to raise the bid further, but was stopped by the butler-like man beside him.
“Since we’re going to get rid of him anyway, let him buy them. After killing him, I can search his body for those gloves. Why waste our spirit crystals?”
“But I can’t swallow this insult!” the young man snapped angrily.
“Otherwise, I’ll suppress his strength first, and then you can kill him yourself. That might make you feel better,” the butler-like man reassured him. “If you raise the bid further, he might not match it. Besides, six top-grade spirit crystals isn’t a small amount—equivalent to six hundred thousand spirit stones. It’s not worth it for a pair of gloves that might even be junk!”
The young man glared at Ye Feng in frustration before turning his gaze to the auction stage and taking a deep breath. “Alright!”
Seeing that the young man seemed to have given up and realizing that no one else was likely to bid higher, the auctioneer called out to the audience, “That gentleman over there offered seven top-grade spirit crystals plus two mid-grade spirit crystals. Is there anyone offering more?”
No one responded from the bidding area.
The auctioneer knew the auction for this item was over.
“Seven top-grade spirit crystals, two mid-grade spirit crystals—first bid!”
“Seven top-grade spirit crystals, two middle-grade spirit crystals—second time!”
“Seven top-grade spirit crystals, two middle-grade spirit crystals—third time!”
“Deal! Congratulations to the gentleman who has won this mysterious item.” The auctioneer finally struck the gavel to end the auction.
Ye Feng secretly sent a message to Pei Hong beside him, “After the auction is over, pretend you don’t know me and leave right away! Find another inn to stay in—don’t go back to the original one; they might track you there. I think that guy has his eyes on me!”
“I understand. Be careful yourself; that guy seems very angry right now!” Pei Hong replied secretly. “What do you plan to do about this?”
“Since they want to attack me, they should be prepared to get killed. I don’t want to be haunted by them all day long…” Ye Feng said nonchalantly, “Besides, that kid is only at the Outward Emergence stage, and the one with him is only at the Divided Attention stage. They’re not strong enough to force me to run away…”
“Okay, then how will we meet up?” Pei Hong asked.
“You just need to find an inn and wait there, while also experiencing the local culture of this planet. After everything is over, I’ll come look for you. As long as I stay on this planet, I’ll find a way to locate you!” Ye Feng had already stored his combat data in the energy detector. Within a month, if similar data appeared within the detection range, a flashing dot would appear.
“Alright! I’ll leave right after the auction and find another inn to stay in! Take care of yourself!” Pei Hong knew he couldn’t help much. With one at the Outward Emergence stage and another at the Divided Attention stage, his involvement would only be a burden.
