Chapter 009: Trapped
Not only did Du Fan feel threatened, but since he couldn’t activate his space transfer domain, if his two brothers were attacked by the six-uniform monster, it would be impossible to use space transfer to save them from its attacks.
Frowning, Du Fan immediately unleashed the speed of his wind domain and soon engaged in battle with the six-uniform monster. This time, he completely abandoned his weapons; his entire body emitted a milky white glow, with stars twinkling above his fists!
Combining the speed of the wind domain, the defense of the light domain, and the attacking power of his star combat energy, Du Fan perfectly coordinated the energies of these three attributes.
The result of this coordination was a head-on clash—a direct fight against the six-uniform monster! Punch after punch, each one faster and more powerful than the last! To prevent the monster from harming his brothers, Du Fan chose to fight it head-on.
Du Fan’s relentless attacks made the six-uniform monster roar loudly. Until now, it had always been the one suppressing others in battle. In its mind, such a situation—being suppressed by a human—was unimaginable!
With continuous roars, the monster, as if provoked, suddenly increased the speed of its claws, creating afterimages with each swing as it attacked Du Fan at an unbelievable speed.
Its blood-red eyes glowed cruelly—reaching a speed that produced afterimages was already terrifying!
To George and Allen, it seemed as though the monster had suddenly grown countless arms, all of which attacked Du Fan at once!
With a flash in his eyes, Du Fan smirked. Thanks to the Power of Truth, the monster’s movements were shown in slow motion. He struck swiftly, and the sounds of his punches colliding with the monster’s claws echoed continuously.
Finally, with a loud bang, the monster was knocked back onto the confinement magic array by another punch from Du Fan.
The monster roared again, got up from the ground, and rushed at Du Fan. Even after being sent flying by a single punch, it seemed unharmed and immediately stood up to continue fighting.
Although this strange beast was slightly inferior to Du Fan in speed and strength, its defense was far greater! Its extremely dense scales made it impossible for Du Fan’s formidable strength to cause any harm, while Du Fan’s prideful Absolute Protection Field was broken by the beast’s magic-breaking skill. Its superior defense more than compensated for its weaker combat power, and once again, the man and the beast were caught in a fierce battle as the strange beast attacked Du Fan once more! Standing in the air, Nai Xiu continued to shoot arrows at the restraint magic array. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to use more powerful arrow techniques, but she was worried that such techniques might be too strong—breaking the restraint magic array might harm Du Fan. Even if they didn’t harm Du Fan but instead injured George and Allen, Nai Xiu would feel extremely guilty. Under the siege of the six holy-grade masters, Moses unleashed his War Domain—a red and black domain he confined to an area of about a hundred meters. Such a limited-scale domain saved him a lot of energy, as he didn’t need to fully activate it against just six people. … “Lord Commander, should we send reinforcements?” asked a general standing beside Carol, observing the situation ahead. From the high city walls, everything happening across the field was clearly visible—starting with the appearance of those holy-grade masters and ending with Du Fan and the other two being surrounded. All of this was witnessed by Carol and the other generals of the Northern Army. “Of course we must send reinforcements!” Carol said firmly. Seeing those few people trapped by the six holy-grade masters, Carol felt a sense of luck. It was fortunate that Du Fan and his brothers arrived in time. If they had come a day later, with those six holy-grade masters backing them, capturing the city of Red Lake under his defense would have been impossible—even with his leadership skills, he would likely have had to abandon the city. With those six holy-grade masters and their beasts, they were equivalent to twelve holy-grade masters! Add to that their skilled teamwork and the ability of their beasts to combine forces, the combined strength of the reinforcements from the Icebound Alliance was far beyond that of twelve holy-grade masters!
“Pass on my orders! Mobilize all 20,000 heavy cavalry and form them at the front, 30,000 light cavalry in the middle, and 50,000 infantry at the back—get ready to march out of the city and attack!” Carol said fiercely.
The order was quickly disseminated, and soon, the entire army of Red Lake City was mobilized.
The troops brought by George and Allen were also all former subordinates of Carol! Therefore, even when George and Allen were absent, Carol’s orders were swiftly carried out.
“You lead the remaining troops! Decide based on the situation!” Carol said to a general beside him.
“Lord Commander! What about you?” the general asked immediately upon hearing this.
“Hehe, I’ve been trapped here for so many days—unable to go out and fight properly due to a weaker force, always confined inside under their pressure! I’m determined to vent this pent-up anger thoroughly!” Carol said with a laugh.
“Guards, bring my warhorse! I’ll lead them into battle!” Carol shouted loudly as he headed downstairs.
“Lord Commander, you’re the supreme commander—you can’t just rush into battle recklessly!” the general cried out upon hearing that Carol intended to fight outside.
“Execute my orders! You watch the battle! You’ll command the remaining nearly 40,000 troops,” Carol said loudly, as if ignoring the general’s words, urging him to carry out his orders immediately.
In the Northern Legion, military orders were absolute—obedience was a sacred duty, with no excuses allowed!
At Carol’s command, the general had no choice but to reply loudly, “Yes, Lord Commander!”
Shaking off his armor, Carol muttered to himself, “What do you know? The three young masters rushed in alone and are now trapped inside. If I go to rescue them personally, how can I explain this to the Duke?”
Soon, Carol arrived at the foot of the city. An army of 100,000 had been assembled in just a few minutes! Such speed demonstrated the Northern Legion’s formidable execution ability, though those troops had already been preparing since the Du Fan brothers broke out of the city.
Riding a magnificent warhorse covered in fiery red hues, Carol held a long-handled battle axe and suddenly shouted, “Brothers! For so many days, we’ve been forced to fight under their constraints! I’m already fed up! This time, with the three young masters leading troops to reinforce us, I’ll charge out and fight to my heart’s content!” Carol yelled loudly.
At Carol’s cry, the hundred thousand soldiers in formation all roared in unison!
With that roar, the city gates of Red Lake City slowly opened again. The ten-meter-wide gates allowed groups of heavy cavalry to rush out swiftly!
Once the cavalry formed up outside the city, they immediately charged at the positions of the Frozen Alliance!
The Frozen Alliance’s military camp was located about a kilometer away from Red Lake City—a distance more than sufficient for Carol’s heavy cavalry to launch their attack!
The north produced warhorses, and the horses ridden by these northern cavalry were top-notch! As soon as the city gates opened, the northern cavalry surged forward like streams of iron, rapidly attacking the Frozen Alliance’s forces!
Crossing the fences set up in front of the camp, to the soldiers of the Frozen Alliance, the thirty thousand heavy cavalry appeared like dark clouds covering the sky, rushing at them in an instant!
Soon, violent collisions, the neighing of horses, the sharp sounds of weapons clashing, the whizz of arrows, along with shouts of battle and screams of those being killed, filled the air!
Starting with the heavy cavalry’s attack, the scene quickly turned chaotic. Heavy cavalry were the main force for tearing apart enemy formations; once a formation was breached, a army’s combat effectiveness would drop by at least half! Moreover, the impact force of the heavy cavalry and their long knightly lances were effective weapons for killing enemies. Under such immense force, the sharp lances could easily pierce through armor!
Following closely behind the heavy cavalry were light cavalry clad in leather armor. Their equipment was much simpler compared to that of the heavy cavalry—light leather armor, and weapons such as spears, battle axes, or great swords. The light cavalry could fight independently, leveraging their individual combat skills. While the heavy cavalry excelled in coordinated attacks, the light cavalry relied on speed and skilled riding.
After the light cavalry, there were large numbers of infantry clad in fine armor! These infantry were the main force on the battlefield! Both heavy cavalry and light cavalry were auxiliary units—after all, maintaining a heavy cavalry soldier cost as much as ten infantry soldiers, while maintaining a light cavalry soldier cost as much as four infantry soldiers! In comparison, infantry offered the best value. Once the heavy cavalry breached the enemy lines, the light cavalry and infantry would move to the flanks, attacking the enemy from behind the heavy cavalry. There was also a need to leave room for retreat behind the heavy cavalry; otherwise, if they were surrounded and lost their mobility for attacks, their effectiveness would be greatly reduced! From above, the heavy cavalry of the northern army resembled a triangular arrow! At the tip of this arrow was Carol! Clad in full armor, riding a fiery red warhorse that was clearly taller than the others, he resembled a flame! His long battle axe swung like a gust of wind, knocking down waves of enemies with each swing. With Carol’s skills, killing these ordinary soldiers was as easy as slicing through radishes!
