Chapter 005: Driving Away
“Well, then it was Young Master Karu who led a large group of people to the city lord, right?” asked the leading dwarf.
“That’s correct,” Basha lowered his head.
Seeing Basha bow his head, the leading dwarf immediately spoke in a strange tone, tinged with sorrow and anger, “City Lord Basha, our Young Master Karu, seeing that no one came to support his cousin, gathered the best warriors from his tribe to help the city lord! But who would have thought? Truly, who could have imagined it?”
At these words, Basha lowered his head in shame.
“City Lord, our Young Master Karu kindly brought the best warriors from his tribe to help you, yet who would have thought—inside the Divine Ruins, you abandoned Young Master Karu and followed those humans and elves to the Divine Ruins! City Lord, do you even know that Young Master Karu and the other tribesmen fought bravely against the monsters in the passages, with only Young Master Karu left alive?” The leading dwarf cried out in grief again.
Hearing this, Basha bowed his head even more ashamedly.
“City Lord, could you really bear to abandon so many of your people and go with those humans and elves? Do you really think our people are inferior to those filthy humans and hypocritical elves?” The leading dwarf shouted again!
It’s worth noting here how the dwarves referred to Karu and Basha: they called Karu “Young Master Karu,” while addressing Basha as “City Lord Basha.” The title for Basha was certainly correct. As the heir to the once-greatest dwarf family—the Dodge family—Karu was generally addressed as Young Master Karu by the dwarves.
The Dodge family was once the largest family among the dwarves, but when the dwarf king rose to power like a comet, the Dodge family gradually declined and lost its glory. Yet, many older dwarves still respected Karu by calling him Young Master Karu, as he was once the leader of the first family among the dwarves.
“Young Master Karu, what wrong did he do to the city lord? The city lord abandoned him in the Divine Ruins, leaving those eight of them to face twenty enemies, causing them to die needlessly!” The leading dwarf continued to speak in anger and sorrow.
“I… I didn’t want this either.” Basha had nothing else to say and could only utter those words.
As Basha spoke, the leading dwarf remembered his own purpose.
Although the ultimate target was indeed Basha, as the son of the Dwarf King and the lord of Glass City, he couldn’t go too far on the surface.
After all, among the dwarves, the Dwarf King was regarded as the supreme god! As the son of a god, Basha was highly respected by them.
The son of a god was like the first preacher in human society—who claimed to be the son of a god!
As the son of the Dwarf King and the god’s son among the dwarves, Basha held a high status among them.
“Lord Basha, we know that what you did in the Sacred Remains wasn’t your intention. So, Lord Basha, it must be those filthy humans and hypocritical elves who deliberately deceived you and made you do wrong things. Therefore, we demand that those filthy humans and hypocritical elves be driven out of Glass City! Keep them away from Lord Basha!” the leading dwarf shouted.
“No, they are my guests, my brothers!” Although Basha had been ashamed earlier, upon hearing that Moses and Du Fan were to be driven away, his immediate reaction was refusal!
“Lord Basha, if we don’t drive them away, how can our brave people rest in peace? How can the heroic spirits of those seven dwarf warriors find peace? Do you really want to ignore the feelings of us your own people for those outsiders?” the leading dwarf cried out loudly.
“Everyone, should we drive those outsiders away from our great Glass City?” the leading dwarf started shouting again.
“Yes! Drive away the outsiders!” “Get rid of those filthy humans and hypocritical elves!” Many of the marching dwarves began to shout as well.
At this moment, more and more groups of marching dwarves arrived here. Seeing Basha, they gathered around him, and over ten thousand people surrounded him.
As more and more dwarves gathered, the calls to drive away Moses and Du Fan grew louder and louder!
Basha’s situation became increasingly awkward. Du Fan and Moses, as well as Naixiu, who were standing above, could see everything clearly. Seeing the predicament Basha was in, they also grew worried.
“You all stay up there. I’ll go down and take a look,” said Du Fan.
“Be careful then,” Naixiu said anxiously.
Naixiu’s anxiety wasn’t unfounded. With over ten thousand dwarves, all filled with resentment toward Du Fan and Moses, if Du Fan went down there and something went wrong, it could provoke their anger. Du Fan surely couldn’t just fight them head-on in Grass. If a fight broke out, the situation would definitely be unfavorable for him.
Using wind-based flight magic, Du Fan descended lightly from dozens of meters above. The dwarves, who had been making a fuss below, hadn’t noticed anyone above. Du Fan’s sudden descent took them by surprise.
With a graceful posture and a smiling face, Du Fan landed beside Basha.
Many had only heard that Lord Basha was surrounded by a filthy human and a group of hypocritical elves, but most of these dwarves had never seen Du Fan, Moses, or Naixiu in person. This was the first time most of them had seen Du Fan.
When Du Fan appeared above with a smile of utmost purity, many dwarves couldn’t help but use such adjectives to describe him: “Handsome!” “Exceptional presence!” “Pure!” “The most handsome man under heaven!”
Among these gathered dwarves, there were also a few female dwarves. Those dwarf girls, who looked like big radishes, had never seen anyone like Du Fan before. Suddenly encountering such a handsome man, some of them couldn’t help but scream!
Oh Sun God, how could this man be so handsome? How could any dwarf man compare to him? If only this man would look at them and smile at them, they would be willing to die right away!
Most of these dwarf girls had come along just to join in the excitement; they weren’t really there to drive away those filthy humans and hypocritical elves!
Just as the dwarf girls were thinking this, Du Fan suddenly bowed in all directions beside Basha, bowing to the dwarves around him with a smile, in an impeccable noble manner typical of humans! At that moment, the dwarf girls could no longer hold back and started screaming loudly! Some even fainted from sheer joy as they screamed. The atmosphere carefully created by the leading dwarf, one that was highly unfavorable to Basha, was completely ruined by Du Fan’s sudden appearance, amidst the screams of the dwarf girls and the sounds of those who fainted! Many dwarves even felt deep shame—compared to this human who had reached the pinnacle of sanctity, their own race seemed rather crude: big heads, short bodies, and thick, clumsy frames, with messy beards and thick layers of dust all over them. Shame, complete shame! Moreover, ever since Du Fan absorbed such a large amount of divine essence, he could emit an aura of extreme sanctity and solemnity at will, making it impossible for these dwarves to resist him. Faced with such an aura, the dwarves felt even more ashamed. After bowing to everyone around him, Du Fan spoke in a polite yet solemn voice, “Dear brothers, sisters, uncles, and aunts of the dwarf race, I am the filthy human you speak of—Du Fan.” Is this the villain who deceived the city lord? It seems he doesn’t resemble a villain at all! Many dwarves thought, how could someone so holy possibly be a villain? Some dwarves began to doubt the propaganda they had heard. Meanwhile, many dwarf girls thought, “Wow, even if he’s a villain, I still like him!” “Du Fan, you filthy human! We demand that you and your people leave Glass City!” Seeing that the atmosphere was under Du Fan’s control, the leading dwarf immediately shouted loudly.
With that loud shout, many dwarves also started screaming, “Get out of Grass! Get out of Grass! Dirty humans, get out of Grass!” However, these calls for Du Fan to leave were much less intense compared to the fury directed at Basha at the beginning.
“Naixiu, your Duke Du Fan is truly remarkable,” Moses said to Naixiu with a smile upon seeing the sudden change in the situation.
“Is that so? He’s okay, I guess,” Naixiu replied modestly, her face turning red when Moses referred to Du Fan as their family’s Duke Du Fan.
“It seems my father was right to send me with Du Fan to gain experience in human society. At least I don’t have the same on-the-spot control as your Duke Du Fan,” Moses said with a smile, observing Du Fan’s every move.
What had just been a highly dangerous moment was quietly resolved when Du Fan leaped down, bowed in all directions, greeted them warmly, and wore an extremely pure smile.
Naixiu was also very relieved upon seeing Du Fan’s actions.
“Goddess of Nature, revered goddess, it seems the marriage bond you helped me form is indeed very good now!” Naixiu thought to herself, her face slightly reddening as she spoke.
