Chapter 010: Casimir’s Skills
Casimir waited for a moment but saw Du Fan merely staring at him with a strange expression. Some anger rose in his heart. He glared at Du Fan, the light of his combat energy flickering in his hands. Yet, perhaps out of courtesy, he didn’t lash out immediately. Instead, he chuckled and said, “Lord Alfred, it’s better to be sensible. I’ve told you so much just because I don’t want to use force on you. After all, our Snow Fox Mercenary Group is known for valuing money over lives. As long as you obey, we won’t even touch your life.”
Du Fan smiled faintly, stroking the storage ring on his hand. He glanced at Casimir for a moment before saying, “Lord Casimir, it’s not that I don’t want to give you this item. But I vaguely remember an old saying from the distant Eastern Continent: ‘An innocent man bears no blame, but holding treasure brings danger.’ With your status, possessing this item will only bring you disaster. Giving it to you would only harm you.”
Casimir’s expression changed. He slammed his hand on the bed angrily and shouted, “Dare you!”
With that slap, his combat energy instantly destroyed the bed. Eileen, hiding under the covers, writhed but wasn’t injured. She curled up on the ground, struggling to grab Casimir’s leg and saying, “Ouch, my leader, can’t you be a little nicer?”
Casimir glared at her and snarled, “You little bitch, get away from me! Stop making noise. After I deal with this brat, I’ll have my fun with you. Damn it, you little whore who can’t stay still without a man…”
Dixi and Heige, standing nearby, probably due to Casimir’s terrifying presence, didn’t even dare to look at the naked bodies on the ground.
“Tap—tap—”
Du Fan clapped his hands lightly, looking down on Casimir with disdain. “Lord Casimir, although it’s your business how you deal with your women, isn’t it inappropriate to do such things in front of an outsider like me? Originally, I planned to spare your lives… after all, you insulted me… But now I suddenly feel that killing people like you would only dirty my hands… In other words… even if I kill you, you’re not worthy… While I’m not yet angry… just scram away, okay?”
Du Fan’s tone was calm, his expression serene, as if he wasn’t facing four desperate men who could kill him at any moment, but rather some obedient cats or dogs.
Looking at Du Fan’s expression, Casimir felt a slight unease. But remembering that his bodyguards outside had been knocked out, and though he was still afraid Du Fan might conjure more magic scrolls, his heart became a bit steadier.
Casimir was also a man of great responsibility. Du Fan’s expression made him worry about further complications, and he lost his urge to tease him. Ignoring Du Fan’s words, he merely sneered and said, “Very well. If you refuse to drink, you’ll have to drink as punishment. Then, Alfred, don’t blame me.” “Hege, strike! Kill him!”
As soon as he spoke, Hege released his right hand, and the first arrow was shot out. But he didn’t stop there; instead, he quickly drew two more arrows from his quiver and fired them in rapid succession—“whoosh—whoosh—whoosh.”
Du Fan’s eyes lit up. Hege’s archery skills were quite good. Even within this small tent, the force and speed of these three arrows were extraordinary. In the blink of an eye, the three arrows formed a series, racing toward his face. If hit, he would surely suffer severe injuries, if not death.
Du Fan snorted coldly. Without moving much, the radiant combat energy on his body flared violently, forming a barrier in front of him. The lightning-fast arrows stopped less than half a finger’s length away from him.
Du Fan gently pushed with his finger, causing the arrows frozen in midair to spin sharply and shoot back in their direction. This time, the arrows carried the power of the radiant combat energy, making them even more lethal.
Casimir flashed into position between Hege and Du Fan. He stretched out his right hand and caught one of the arrows. Although his move seemed more impressive than Du Fan’s on the surface, Du Fan had used only combat energy, while Casimir had physically intervened. While it was hard to say who was superior, it at least showed that Du Fan’s understanding of power surpassed his.
Moreover, though the combat energy attached to the arrow was gentle, a subtle force kept surging from it, giving it a hidden menace.
In this move, Du Fan secretly blended wind-type combat energy with light-type combat energy. Although Casimir had rich combat experience, he had never encountered someone who could cultivate both types of combat energy simultaneously, so he naturally couldn’t understand the intricacies behind it. After barely dispelling the combat energy on the arrows, Casimir glanced at Du Fan in surprise. He had originally thought Du Fan could at most rely on a few magic scrolls to stand out, leaving him no chance to use magic—hence why he had ordered Hege to act. But he never expected Du Fan to possess such skills, which surprised him greatly. Recalling Du Fan’s self-proclaimed identity, as well as his so-called bodyguards and the combat energy glowing on their bodies just like Du Fan’s, Casimir suddenly remembered a rumor… That blazing white combat energy, like the light of the sun—could it be… this was what was meant by… At that thought, Casimir felt his entire body tremble. For the first time, he regretted his actions. If this mission succeeded, that was fine, but if it failed and even the slightest clue was uncovered, given the power behind the opponent, there would be no way for him to survive on this Roland continent. This possibility terrified Casimir and strengthened his resolve to kill Du Fan right away. Gritting his teeth, he waved his hand sharply, signaling the other three to step back. Then he slowly removed his gloves, stroked the long sword hanging at his waist for a moment, and then pulled it out abruptly. The sword’s light was blindingly bright. Even Du Fan, who usually looked down on him, couldn’t help but exclaim, “What a great sword!” Casimir sneered and said, “The sword is great, but the man is dead. Let me, Casimir, grant you such a perfect ending, Lord Alfred!” As soon as he finished speaking, the sword in Casimir’s hand shot toward Du Fan like the fang of a venomous snake, leaving no time for Du Fan to react. At the same time, burning combat energy covered the blade—likely capable of detonating upon contact with a person. Seeing this move, Du Fan felt a chill run down his spine. His actions against the Corpse Wolves had been pure luck, but now facing Casimir, he didn’t even have time to react. Although his various skills were formidable, and his speech-based abilities were extremely powerful, he couldn’t afford to reveal such strengths casually.
Du Fan was determined that Tasia would not watch him die alive. Gritting his teeth, his combat energy flared up, making the faint light barrier even more robust.
Kasimir looked at Du Fan’s seemingly fragile energy shield and smiled even more triumphantly. Determined to kill him in one strike, he didn’t bother hiding his strength and unleashed all his combat energy. Soon, a fiery red color filled the small space, with the explosive energy seemingly ready to tear Du Fan to pieces at any moment.
Judging from this energy, Kasimir’s strength was likely no less than level six. Unless Du Fan used some underhanded or despicable tactics, he had no chance but to serve as a human shield against Kasimir.
Kasimir’s sword tip pierced through the shield in front of Du Fan. The sacred shield trembled, and cracks appeared starting from the point of impact. Du Fan’s expression changed as he tried to reach into his storage ring for a magic scroll. Unintentionally, this movement disrupted the flow of his combat energy, causing Kasimir’s already fragile energy shield to crack with a “crack” and turn into faint white powder.
Yet Kasimir’s sword continued its attack, aiming straight for Du Fan’s forehead. At this moment, even if Du Fan wanted to use speech magic, there was no time left. Cold sweat poured from his forehead as he realized for the first time just how close death was.
“Sigh…”
At this critical moment, a low sigh came from a corner of the tent.
Kasimir was shocked as if struck by lightning. His whole body trembled, and blood flowed from his nose. This shock caused his hand to falter, and his combat energy nearly dissipated. His expression changed drastically. Ignoring the need to kill Du Fan, he stepped back abruptly. Reaching the edge of the tent, he kicked Blackge and Dici, who were still in a daze, in Du Fan’s direction. Without caring about Eileen still on the ground, he vanished like a ghost outside the tent.
Du Fan waved his hand, using his light combat energy to push Blackge and Dici away who hadn’t yet reacted. Then he turned to look at the beautiful figure slowly emerging from the corner.
