Chapter 001: Eleven Forbidden Techniques
Seeing Du Fan not respond, Garfield wasn’t bothered. He casually cast a healing spell over Randy first, then glanced at Du Fan again and said indifferently, “It seems the Duke also doesn’t want to talk… But it doesn’t matter. Anyway, you’re going to die here today. Though this question is strange, it has become irrelevant now.”
Du Fan smiled faintly. Staring at Garfield, he said calmly, “Prince Garfield, many people have said these words to me before, yet I’m still standing here fine… Now that you’ve said them to me as well, are you really confident enough to kill me, Du Fan, right here and now?”
Garfield smiled. “Duke, don’t think just because you’ve reached the Saint rank that you’re something special. Even among those at the Saint rank, there are differences in strength… Considering you’re a guest here, go first. Otherwise, if you die at my hands for no reason later, wouldn’t that be unjust?”
Du Fan shook his head but said nothing more. Suddenly, with a light wave of his hand, a faint golden light condensed into the shape of a sword in his palm. Those swords formed from combat energy shot violently toward Garfield.
Garfield stood motionless, smiling with a hint of disdain. Then he raised his hand and tapped his fingers a few times against the incoming swords of combat energy. In that instant, time between Du Fan and Garfield seemed to slow down drastically—so much so that it was possible to see with the naked eye as those swords created ripples in the air.
Soon, several low, crisp sounds were heard. Du Fan’s swords of combat energy were shattered almost simultaneously, turning into specks of golden light.
Du Fan wasn’t surprised. This technique of condensing energy into a form was something everyone learned after reaching the Saint rank. If Garfield couldn’t counter it, that would be strange.
Unperturbed, he bent his right hand into a sword shape and slowly swept it toward Garfield.
With that motion, a black-and-white thread appeared in the air and instantly swung toward Garfield’s forehead.
That thread seemed utterly harmless, just floating lightly, but upon seeing it, a rare look of seriousness flashed in Garfield’s eyes. He couldn’t help but whisper, “Interesting!”
With that, he saw him point back in the direction of the thread, and another thread appeared in the air—only this one wielded by Garfield was silver in color. The two threads instantly entwined, producing a series of “crackling” sounds, with sparks flying in the space between them. Eventually, as the sparks faded, both threads disappeared from the air.
“You’re truly impressive,” Garfield smiled. “Having just reached the Saint rank, you already understand how to alter the rules of power and condense all strength into a single point… Not bad at all. It seems this fight will be interesting!”
Upon hearing this, Du Fan frowned slightly and said, “It’s just a trivial trick. It probably doesn’t even catch Lord Garfield’s attention… But try this move again!”
With that, Du Fan took a deep breath, tapped his toes lightly, and stepped back dozens of meters. Then, with a single wave of his hand, a faint golden blade shot toward Garfield with astonishing force! As soon as this move was made, everything around seemed to fall silent, with only the “whooshing” sound of the blade remaining in the empty air.
A hint of sarcasm appeared in Garfield’s eyes. He was about to say something when suddenly the blade vanished from the air—only to reappear right behind Garfield the next instant!
This move had broken through the limits of space, not only achieving “instant teleportation” but also forcibly reversing direction—truly remarkable!
A look of appreciation flashed in Garfield’s eyes. He let out a soft “Huh,” but without making any move, a black crack suddenly appeared on his body, sucking the blade in!
With another “whoosh,” as the blade disappeared, it inexplicably reappeared in front of Du Fan. This move, originally launched by Du Fan, was now coming back at him—utterly astonishing.
Du Fan’s expression changed drastically. He hadn’t known why he had used these moves; he only had a vague feeling that the power of the Saint rank should be used in this way. He had thought that even if he couldn’t win, he wouldn’t lose, but he never expected Garfield to understand the power of the Saint rank to such a degree!
Seeing the attack he had launched rushing toward him, Du Fan quickly stepped back a few times. He raised his hand and snapped his fingers lightly, and soon a golden shield appeared in front of the blade of light. The two collided with a loud “boom,” generating a gust of wind that swept through the surroundings.
With this move alone, it was clear who was superior between Du Fan and Garfield! Faced with the same technique, Garfield could deflect it, while Du Fan could only block it forcefully. From this, it was evident that Du Fan was at a disadvantage.
Moreover, he had to use his own light shield to block his own blade of light—his frustration must have been immense.
Unexpectedly, Garfield nodded repeatedly and said, “Not bad, not bad! The Duke is truly a rare genius. Having just reached the Saint rank, he already understands the rules of this realm to such a degree—far surpassing me! You know, when I reached the Saint rank and understood what you understand now, it took me half a year! With time, you might even surpass me… However, although you understand the rules of the Saint rank, you still can’t create your own domain—namely, a Saint domain. Otherwise, maybe I wouldn’t even be your match!”
After saying that, Garfield smiled again and said, “Well, as a guest in my home, it’s only right that I give you three moves. Now that those three moves are up, it’s my turn to act… Lord, watch closely!”
With that, Garfield waved his hand in front of him, and instantly, a thin black rift seemed to tear open in the air. This rift spread rapidly toward Du Fan’s direction, accompanied by faint thundering sounds…
Du Fan’s mind shook as he immediately realized that Garfield had torn a hole in space. If hit, he would likely vanish from this world!
At the same time, although Garfield’s move might not be more advanced than Du Fan’s own space-tearing slash, his ability to use it so casually was something Du Fan could never match.
Realizing this, Du Fan gave up the idea of blocking the attack. He tapped his toes slightly and darted to the side.
Fortunately, it seemed that Garfield didn’t intend to take Du Fan’s life with that move. Seeing Du Fan dodge, a strange smile appeared on his lips. The spreading black crack changed direction at that moment, yet it still passed close to Du Fan’s shoulder… Then, a huge tree dozens of meters away from Du Fan suddenly collapsed silently. When Du Fan looked back, it seemed as though part of the tree had been forcibly swallowed by something… Yet the cut was unbelievably smooth! Du Fan immediately broke into a cold sweat. If that attack had hit him just now, perhaps… perhaps… He couldn’t help but look up at Garfield and said in a deep voice, “Impressive! That move can swallow anything it touches, right?” “Huh? You noticed that?” Garfield’s voice carried a hint of surprise. “But your guess is not wrong. My move just split space, creating a crack in what was originally a stable space. It’s not strange for anything that touches the crack to be sucked in… But this move is far inferior to your Space Tear Slash!” “You know my move?” Garfield nodded and said calmly, “Space Tear Slash, Word Spirit, Eye of Truth, Divine Descent, Possession, Space Travel, Divine Puppet, Great Prophecy, Soul Seizure Curse, Moonlight Slash, Star Strike… Although not many people on the continent know these moves, there are certainly quite a few… It’s a pity, Duke, that these moves, once known as the Eleven Forbidden Techniques, only have such limited power in your hands!” Du Fan’s eyes widened in shock. You see, back in the imperial city, Francis had said something similar. Now that Garfield had said it too, it seemed as though all the holy-level powerhouses on the Roland Continent knew these moves… These moves, known as the Eleven Forbidden Techniques, must be quite formidable… “Duke,” Garfield glanced deeply at Du Fan. “I know you know three of these Eleven Forbidden Techniques. So why not use them all at once? That way, you might just be able to fight me. Otherwise…”
