Chapter 006: Do You Want My Life?
Fei Lang saw another dozen people gathering around him. Pointing at the other walls, he said, “All the passages have been cleared!”
Now that he knew the opponent would stop at nothing, he naturally wouldn’t give them another chance. “Be careful—there might be traps.”
As soon as Fei Lang finished speaking, two people screamed and died. Fei Lang was frustrated—hadn’t they even seen Du Fan yet, and so many had already died? He could hardly keep track. Would half of them still be left by the time they returned?
Du Fan had been here for two months, and Fei Lang had already gathered all the information about him. He knew Du Fan could mobilize an army of a hundred thousand, while they had no strength to confront such an army.
Originally, Fei Lang hadn’t planned to kill Du Fan right away, but it seemed inevitable now. If Du Fan survived until tomorrow, they would surely suffer greatly! An army of a hundred thousand! It was only because they couldn’t mobilize that army quickly that it hadn’t arrived yet!
Moreover, a dangerous figure like Du Fan had better be eliminated as soon as possible. It would be detrimental to their survival in the future. After all, Du Fan had only been here for less than two months, yet he had already wiped out most of them. Now trapped here, Fei Lang believed Du Fan must have more tricks up his sleeve!
Judging from the current situation, not even half of them would remain.
Fei Lang gathered everyone in the area and led the way. The traps in these places were meant to drain their manpower. He hoped those people could see this and cherish the lives of their subordinates.
But Fei Lang’s prayers were unlikely to come true.
Du Fan sensed Fei Lang entering the tunnel first, and the others followed suit. As Fei Lang had guessed, the traps in the tunnel were designed to eliminate their men.
If those leaders entered first, they could clear the tunnels and, with some effort, find Du Fan and the others.
Of course, Du Fan wouldn’t give them such a chance, which is why he set off the traps prepared outside to drive them into the tunnels. Those weren’t bees at all—just simple magic.
It was a rain of needles, and those “needles” were nothing but ice crystals made of poisonous water. Otherwise, where would he get so many bees? Even if he wanted to, he wouldn’t have the ability! Anyway, it was dark now, so they couldn’t see, and they were all concentrated in the residential area. Du Fan could naturally carry out his plan.
After that rain of needles, those who hadn’t entered the residential area were fine. But there were still less than three hundred of them, and Du Fan led his men to slaughter them all. It was the first time they’d spilled blood that night!
After walking a distance, they realized Du Fan couldn’t possibly find bees to drive thousands of them underground. The others weren’t stupid either; realizing this, they ran back. But when they returned, they saw true hell! The ground was covered with corpses, and Du Fan, leading the way, dealt another strike to those who were still alive or had a glimmer of breath left. In fact, he had no need to do this, as those people would die sooner or later. There was also poison gas, and most of their deaths were due to poisoning. Eventually, they would die beyond death itself.
But why did Du Fan go to such lengths? The reason was simple: to provoke the Flying Wolf! Only an enemy driven mad was easier to deal with!
Du Fan’s plan was excellent. Cruel as demons, they stabbed several times at each person who seemed already dead, which undoubtedly enraged them further. The people were already dead—why go to such extremes?
The Flying Wolf roared and charged at Du Fan. It was clear to him that Du Fan was the strongest here! And Du Fan still had an unused “Blue Stone” barrier in his hands! He was already at level nine, and if he released just a bit more of his power, he could reach the peak of level nine!
His eyes were fixed solely on Du Fan.
Du Fan had treated all the leaders of the thief gangs in the Siluo Province as members of the Dark Demon clan. When the Flying Wolf charged, he already sensed that the Flying Wolf was a practitioner at level nine. If he released more of his power, would he still have a chance?
Du Fan had no interest in fighting these people head-on! Just as he wanted to leave and head into the tunnels, Alexander blocked his way. Those who had rushed into the tunnels and scattered were unaware that Du Fan hadn’t entered them either; they were carrying out another part of their plan.
Seeing himself trapped here, with neither his own men nor the thieves in sight, Du Fan smiled bitterly. What a mess! Thankfully, there were only two of them.
Du Fan knew their Liberation Forces needed a time gap, so he wasn’t going to give them that chance. When he saw “Blue Stone,” he rushed at Flying Wolf immediately. Alexander thought Du Fan would use the same tactic as before, but to his surprise, it was self-defense! cursing himself, Alexander rushed in front of Flying Wolf to block Du Fan. But he too paid a heavy price!
“You…” Flying Wolf saw Du Fan charging at him and was confident he could withstand the attack, but he never expected Alexander to rush in to protect him.
Alexander spat out blood; it was clear he was inhaling more air than exhaling. “I… don’t look at me that way. I’m not saving you—I just… promise me you’ll kill him no matter what!”
Flying Wolf understood. Alexander wasn’t protecting him; it was just an instinctive reaction. It was precisely because of this instinctive action that he could see Alexander’s feelings for the other three. And Flying Wolf valued deep bonds—otherwise, with his current strength, he would have long returned to the upper levels and wouldn’t be suffering here. He just didn’t want to leave this place, not his brothers under his command!
He nodded, and Alexander passed away with a smile.
Flying Wolf raised his head and looked at Du Fan. “You’re not bad, but you must die today!”
With that, he rushed at Du Fan. Du Fan was already prepared. Knowing his magic wouldn’t work, he drew Frost Snow and placed it between them.
But the next moment, before they even came into contact, Flying Wolf suddenly changed his stance, switching his dagger from a stabbing motion to a slashing one and attacking from Du Fan’s side. Du Fan was shocked to see Flying Wolf able to change tactics at such speed!
After all, changing tactics mid-air required leaving at least three-tenths of one’s strength behind—yet he hadn’t used his full strength just now?
Too shocked to think clearly, Du Fan gritted his teeth and shouted softly. He couldn’t change his fighting stance now, but his fingers could still move. He adjusted his grip, drawing Frost Snow in an arc that traced a semicircle along Flying Wolf’s chest before returning to his own forearm, lying along it beneath his armpit—just enough to block Flying Wolf’s attack!
In the blink of an eye, a single move was completed, but the danger involved left both of them stunned by the strength and wisdom displayed by the other.
Du Fan looked at Flying Wolf with a triumphant smile. It seemed they had arrived just in time!
“Do you want my life?” Du Fan asked with a smile.
Fei Lang didn’t know why Du Fan suddenly asked that, but in the next moment, his “Blue Stone” barrier was broken. Instinctively, he retracted the power within himself, glanced around, cursed under his breath, and ran outside. There stood a group of people, each wearing the insignia of the Divine Might Prison! “We arrived late!” They thought they were late after seeing the horrific scene in Doha City, but actually, according to the date set by Du Fan, they had arrived early! Du Fan naturally knew this, and he had brought the people from the Divine Might Prison here not to help suppress the bandits, but to deal with those from the Lani Empire. As for this place, it was just a minor affair. “Alright, I don’t blame you. Since you’re here, clean up those remnants. It’s a good chance for me to go back and get some sleep too,” Du Fan said casually. But when the others saw the scene, they didn’t feel the same way. There were nothing but corpses everywhere. Even though they from the Divine Might Prison were used to corpses, they still couldn’t help feeling nauseous at the bloody sight. Yet Du Fan still wore a devout smile, his beige warrior robes spotless. After all, they had stepped in blood and chunks of flesh along the way, while Du Fan, after fighting here for so long, remained as clean and fresh as ever… “What are you waiting for?” Du Fan called out. When those who had lost Du Fan returned to rescue him, they happened to see the people from the Divine Might Prison and took them down with them. The people from the Divine Might Prison were different from Du Fan’s mercenaries—they were true experts! Naturally, Du Fan trusted them to handle the remaining thieves. As soon as Fei Lang saw the people from the Divine Might Prison, he ran away immediately, diving into the underground passage. Since he wasn’t familiar with the passage and the people from the Divine Might Prison had just arrived and were also unfamiliar with it, his chances of survival increased. Besides, those minor traps wouldn’t affect him much. That’s why Fei Lang chose this place. As he ran forward, he found there was no way ahead. With no one around, he used the night vision ability of the Dark Demon clan. He discovered that the path ahead had just been blocked. So he guessed there must be something inside, and he used his combat energy to break through the wall ahead.
As soon as he opened it, he felt a layer of deathly stillness surround him. Then everything went dark, and he found himself in a small dark room. The one who appeared before him was naturally the Nether Mage—Mr. Mingwei!
“Oh, let me see which little mouse has wandered into my territory. Oh? A Blue-Blooded one.”
Upon hearing Mingwei’s words, Fei Lang’s face turned deathly pale. After all, he hadn’t yet unleashed his powers—how did Mingwei know?
“You needn’t be nervous, little guy. A Blue-Blooded one? I didn’t expect there to still be Blue-Blooded people around. It’s a pity—I can only see what’s outside here, not the true nature of each person. You’re quite interesting. But are Blue-Blooded people now as weak as Red-Blooded ones?”
Seeing Fei Lang’s expression, Mingwei said softly, “Don’t worry. I won’t hurt you. No, no, no. It’s not that I won’t hurt you, but that I won’t tell others about you. Although you’re a Blue-Blooded one, I’ve promised Du Fan that I won’t let anyone harm the people here.”
“The people here?” Fei Lang looked at Mingwei in confusion.
Mingwei pointed downward. Fei Lang saw the crowd in the underground city, bathed in a faint magical glow. The city was already mostly built, and the space was so vast that one couldn’t see the end. Fei Lang smiled bitterly. Had Du Fan already achieved this? Truly… it would be strange if he weren’t as good. Du Fan had only been here for two months—how had he done this? If Du Fan could build such a city and possess such strength, then they certainly weren’t his match. It seemed they hadn’t just underestimated Du Fan—they were underestimating the very idea of such a city! Only a god could create something like this!
“You needn’t make that face. This wasn’t built by Du Fan,” Mr. Mingwei said slowly, a pleasant smile seeming to form on his lips. “This place was originally called ‘The City Without Shadows’—a city of Blue-Blooded people! And I… am a Blue-Blooded one!”
