Chapter 009: Magic Against Magic
The battle has begun!
In a life-or-death situation like this, not even Du Fan would dare to be careless.
He waved his hands rapidly, stuffing the magic scrolls into his sleeves, then took out several auxiliary scrolls from his storage ring and quickly attached them to his body.
“Floating Spell,” “Bull Strength,” “Solidification Spell,” “Agility Spell”…
Every magic scroll he could find was now on his body, and several magic shields from different schools also appeared, flashing continuously around him…
Amper, floating in mid-air, observed Du Fan’s actions with a hint of surprise in his eyes. Yet he didn’t stop him but watched with interest. Du Fan could even feel his gaze, seemingly able to see through every one of his movements!
“An interesting little guy!” Amper finally laughed. Though there was some appreciation in his laugh, it still made one’s skin prickle when it appeared on his peculiar face. “Your magic power is abundant, and your mental strength is great. Though you clearly seem like a novice who doesn’t know how to use magic, you still carry so many magic scrolls? Hahaha, truly interesting… Perhaps you could be a rare opponent. By the way, little guy, before we start fighting, there’s one more thing I need to tell you… If you get another chance to fight a mage, remember—never recklessly show off your magic scrolls. No matter who it is, even if they don’t intend to kill you at first, once they see your seemingly endless supply of magic scrolls, they’ll surely want to kill you for your treasures!”
“Like me!” Amper licked his lips. “I originally wanted to twist off your head and add it to my 137th collection! But now I’ve changed my mind. I want to keep your soul to figure out how you got so many magic scrolls. Oh, I know a bit about necromancy. How about I turn your soul into my first undead creature? Hahaha, little Du Fan, shouldn’t you feel honored?”
Du Fan snorted, grasped the Phantom Wand in one hand, tapped it quickly on the ground, and then floated into the air. With his other hand, he fiddled with a magic scroll, smiling coldly at Ampere and saying, “Whatever person wants my life will have to pay a price… Bruce and Aldas wanted my life, and now they’re dead under the Holy Fire. I wonder where Master Ampere will die next—will it be at my hands or through your magic?”
Ampere let out a strange laugh and said indifferently, “Kid, you really amuse me… Then let’s have a rare duel between magicians! Though in such a duel, your fate of destruction is already sealed!”
With that, Ampere swung his Holy Radiance Wand fiercely, and a wave of flame shot toward Du Fan in the air.
Du Fan sneered, swung his right hand, and instantly threw a magic scroll! It was a defensive barrier spell. As soon as the scroll was thrown, a beam of holy light spread out, forming a circular shield around Du Fan. This shield could resist attacks from various types of magic and could hold out for at least a few minutes—truly a powerful spell!
The flame was blocked by the shield and scattered in all directions. Even so, Du Fan still felt a heat wave hitting him, and half of the sky seemed on the verge of burning under the flames.
After a while, the flames finally dissipated into the air. Seeing that Du Fan seemed unharmed, Ampere snorted and said, “What an annoying kid… How long do you think such a thing can last against me?”
With that, he waved his Holy Radiance Wand and began reciting an obscure magic spell. Before Du Fan could react, he had finished the spell. Then he pointed the wand at Du Fan and shouted, “Go!”
Instantly, a black gas emerged from the wand and soon enveloped Ampere. Quickly, this black gas reached Du Fan as well.
Du Fan instinctively frowned. He waved his hands twice, throwing two fire-based magic scrolls, which immediately formed a wall of fire in the air, blocking the black gas!
But moments later, dark hues began to seep into the red of those two fire walls. In the blink of an eye, Du Fan cast two spells, which then vanished without a trace! Before Du Fan could react, the black gas rushed toward him. With a “hiss” sound, as if water droplets falling on a scorching iron, Du Fan felt the shield around him shake and seem on the verge of disappearing. Clearly, Ampere’s spell was aimed at his magical shield. Du Fan snapped his fingers twice and cast a high-level wind magic scroll. A tornado blew through, dispersing much of the black aura around him, but it soon faded as well. Seizing this opportunity, Du Fan frantically flew backward, escaping through the gaps in the black gas. “Trying to escape? Useless!” Ampere’s voice came from within the black gas. “In the face of darkness, no magic works!” A dark magic? Du Fan smirked coldly. “Whether it works or not—what’s the point of discussing it now? Can’t you still do nothing to me?” “Hahaha…” Ampere laughed maniacally. “Little guy, are you trying to provoke me? But since you want to die, why not satisfy your wish?” With that, the black mass in the air split into two, creating a gap through which Ampere slowly emerged. He stared at Du Fan, grinned viciously, and said, “This is your own fault! Don’t blame me!” Before his words faded, both of them moved at the same time! Ampere’s Holy Radiance Staff moved like a phantom, swiftly pointing at Du Fan. The black gas around him surged like boiling water, and countless needles of black mist shot toward Du Fan. Almost simultaneously, Du Fan cast over a dozen magic scrolls. With a slight tap of his Phantom Staff, his immense mental power activated those scrolls. Under his control, flames, ice, lightning, wind… along with various strange spells, all rushed against the attack like a black rainstorm!
Two bursts of magical flames collided violently, emitting a mournful cry in the air as if the entire sky were about to tear apart. Then came a loud “boom”—the whole sky seemed to shake, and it seemed as though all the stars would fall from the sky…
During this explosion, Du Fan was blown around wildly, tumbling through the air countless times. If not for the defensive magic shield around him, his body would have been torn to pieces by the explosion!
Master Ampere wasn’t faring any better! Under the force of the explosion, his Dark Devouring spell lost its effect and was scattered in an instant. He clenched his Holy Radiance Staff tightly, and a rainbow of light burst from its tip, forming a rainbow wall in front of him that barely managed to block the impact. Even so, Ampere was still blown around, his hair and clothes flying, and he was pushed back through the air for who knew how long!
For a great mage, this was an extreme sign of losing control!
The clouds in the sky were scattered by the explosion, and the jungle on the ground was crushed as if by a meteor—showing just how powerful magic could be!
Fortunately, the two of them were now quite far from where they started. Otherwise, just this single spell would have caused unimaginable chaos!
It was likely that the remaining warriors and secret guards of the crown prince would be utterly destroyed by the clash of their magic!
Finally, everything calmed down, and the two of them stared at each other in the air.
Du Fan looked at Ampere from afar, and Ampere looked back at Du Fan. Almost simultaneously, both of them sneered.
Ampere snorted and said, “Kid! You’re quite skilled. You’re the first in years to be able to block my Black Rain spell… But how many more magic scrolls do you have? I can use my Black Rain spell countless times… Besides, do I only know this one spell?”
Du Fan also sneered repeatedly, “Old monster, though you’re powerful and called a ‘Forbidden Magic Mage,’ no matter how much magic you have, it’s limited. But my magic scrolls don’t require any magic at all. When your magic runs out, that’s when your death comes!”
