Chapter 009: The Troublesome Woman

After waiting for a while longer, a robe was completed. The needles, thread, scissors, and other items floating in midair slowly descended, and the robe in the air folded itself neatly and landed in front of Du Fan.
After finishing all this, Jimmy put away his wand and smiled at Du Fan, saying, “Lord Du Fan, are you satisfied with this robe?”
Du Fan grabbed it and took a quick look before smiling and saying, “It’s quite good, Jimmy. Thank you really.”
With that, Du Fan stuffed the magic robe into his storage ring. When he reached for the Dark Magic Crystal Ball to put it in as well, Jimmy quickly waved his hand and said, “Wait a moment, Lord Du Fan… We haven’t signed a contract for this yet.”
Then, Jimmy took out a parchment that had been prepared earlier from behind the counter and placed it in front of Du Fan.
Du Fan glanced at it and, finding nothing amiss, signed the contract.
Only then did Jimmy’s expression relax. This time, when he saw Du Fan put the crystal ball into his storage ring, he showed no other reaction.
Next, Jimmy pulled out a bamboo flute from behind him, blew into it gently, and a melody laced with magical vibrations filled the air.
A moment later, a smug-looking magic apprentice slowly walked in from the door. With his hands behind his back and his nose almost in the air, he said irritably even before stepping in, “You little brat, Jimmy! I’m very busy. If you keep causing trouble, I won’t be gentle with you!”
“Well…” Jimmy seemed a bit afraid of this man, but he quickly handed him the contract and said, “I sold a Dark Magic artifact. Here’s the contract. Please take it back and record it.”
“A Dark Magic artifact…”
The apprentice’s expression changed slightly, as if he too felt some fear, but then he noticed the robe on Du Fan’s back. His expression shifted again, and he muttered, “Even charlatans are using Dark Magic artifacts. The world has really changed.”
With that, he snatched the contract and, not daring to say more, vanished quickly.
After he left, Jimmy gave Du Fan an awkward smile and said, “Lord Du Fan, that’s just how this person is. Most magicians have peculiar personalities. Please don’t take it personally.”

How could Du Fan treat such a minor figure seriously? He simply nodded slightly and moved on, instead continuing to engage in an interested conversation with Jimmy about magical artifacts. After their talk, Du Fan realized that although Jimmy was just a magic apprentice, his knowledge of magical artifacts was quite profound. Even in alchemy, though he lacked the ability to learn it, he possessed a great deal of theoretical knowledge. Du Fan believed that if given the chance to become an alchemist, he would likely be one of the best.

Even though he couldn’t practice alchemy at the moment, his insights and vision made it a shame to keep him in such a lowly position! With these thoughts, Du Fan became even more determined to recruit this guy from the Mage Guild. But since he himself had achieved nothing yet, he couldn’t bring it up right away and could only hold back his desires.

As they were chatting happily, they suddenly heard a charming voice from outside: “Ah, Du Fan! So you’re here. I’ve been looking for you for ages!” With that, someone walked in—it was Kristy. Her appearance today was very different from when she visited the duke’s mansion. She was wearing a proper mage robe that perfectly concealed her delicate figure, with a hexagram-shaped badge pinned to her chest. Du Fan guessed it was a badge indicating her mage rank, though he had no experience with such things and couldn’t tell for sure.

Kristy also wore a pointed mage hat, but instead of looking serious, it gave her a cute appearance. Unfortunately, her expression was icy cold now, far from her once alluring demeanor. Du Fan inwardly chuckled—how had a prostitute turned into a saint just in one day?

Jimmy was stunned for a moment, looking at Kristy’s sudden appearance. The admiration in his eyes was impossible to hide—no matter where, men are inevitably attracted to women, without a doubt. With this complex mix of admiration and fear, Jimmy stared at Kristy for a while before quickly saying, “Miss Kristy…” It seemed only then that he noticed the badge on her chest, and his expression grew even more uneasy. He quickly corrected himself, “Oh no! It’s Deacon Kristy!”

Deacon? It must be a high-ranking position in the Mage Guild.

Du Fan guessed in his heart that since this Kristy could represent the Mage Guild in the outside world, her position as a steward must be quite high, though he wasn’t sure exactly how much power she possessed. It seemed he would have the chance to interact with her more often… After all, the Mage Guild was a powerful force that no one could ignore! In fact, Du Fan was right—most of the great mages in the guild were devoted to research; who would care about the affairs of the guild? Yet such a large organization still needed someone to manage it. As a result, most of the guild’s affairs were handled by its stewards… Stewards were only accountable to the guild leader and possessed most of the leader’s powers. In essence, within the Mage Guild, stewards served as the leader’s representatives, holding real power under any circumstances. The role of steward in the Mage Guild wasn’t something just anyone could take on. Besides having exceptional strength, the most crucial factor was gaining the absolute trust of the guild leader… Given the status of the Mage Guild, the powers associated with this position were no less than those of a secular prince—how could it be a role to be taken lightly? Kristy’s ability to become a steward stemmed not only from her outstanding strength but also from the fact that she was the direct disciple of the current guild leader. Within the guild, she was arguably the most trusted person. Some even speculated that Miss Kristy might become the first woman in history to become the head of the Mage Guild. This was why, whenever she appeared at noble banquets, the suitors would go wild. After all, this woman was not only beautiful and enchanting but also, by associating with her, one could connect with the powerful Mage Guild. So, even if she were an ugly pig, countless people would still flock to her.

Kristi naturally noticed the admiration in Jimmy’s eyes, but given her status, she certainly wouldn’t show favoritism toward such a minor figure. She gave Jimmy a brief glance before ignoring him entirely, focusing instead on Du Fan with a serious expression. “Lord Du Fan, I already received reports from the gatekeeper that you had arrived… I was worried that those reckless guys in the guild might have offended you. Now that I see you’re unharmed, I’m relieved… By the way, the master heard you were here and specifically asked me to take you to him. He really admires you—let’s not keep him waiting any longer.” With that, Kristi gestured for him to follow.

Du Fan knew full well that Kristi’s master was the current president of the Mage Guild, someone named Edward, also a legendary figure. His status and rank were likely on par with, if not higher than, that old fox Anthony. Yet such an important person wanted to meet him? It seemed he was indeed valuable!

Du Fan thought to himself as he prepared to leave, but suddenly, as if remembering something, he turned back to Jimmy and said, “Jimmy, I’m very interested in what I told you. I’ll come to see you again when I have time.” Without waiting for Jimmy’s confused reaction, Du Fan left the magic item store with Kristi.

After stepping outside, Du Fan glanced around and smiled slightly. “I never imagined Miss Kristi held such a high position in the Mage Guild. I, Du Fan, must have neglected you yesterday.” Kristi glanced at Du Fan and smiled rarely. “Young Master Du Fan, I was just helping the master with some tasks. What’s the point of having a high position? Besides, I’m just a magic attendant—what status could I possibly have in the guild? It’s nothing significant.” Nothing significant? Probably not.

Although Du Fan still didn’t fully understand what this position entailed, along the way, those who had seemed hostile toward him showed fear upon seeing Kristi and bowed respectfully. From this, Du Fan could tell that the role of a magic attendant was by no means trivial. But since Kristi had said so, Du Fan naturally wouldn’t challenge her. He smiled and exchanged a few more words about the scenery of the Mage Guild, changing the subject.

Still, despite this, Du Fan regarded this Kristy with a bit more respect in his heart. This woman could not only change her attitude but also had a high status. What was most rare was that she lacked the arrogance and prejudice of those in power. Such a person would be great as an ally, but if she became an enemy, it would be extremely troublesome!
