Chapter 013: Odin’s Hammer

With that, Aldas didn’t give Du Fan even a chance to speak. With a flick of his hand, a sword sound was heard as a stream of combat energy formed into a blade, which swung toward Du Fan.
Du Fan frowned and slapped the horse’s back with his right hand, stepping back several steps. But the warhorse beneath him couldn’t dodge in time and was crushed by the blade, its flesh instantly torn to shreds.
Du Fan was shocked. He hadn’t expected Aldas to have such abilities. If he hadn’t reacted quickly, it wouldn’t have been just the horse that would have been turned to meat.
Seeing that his first attack had been dodged, Aldas snorted and said, “Again!”
Aldas swung his sword again casually. This time, the combat energy on the blade flickered, causing his long sword to suddenly grow several feet long as it slashed straight at Du Fan.
Du Fan snorted and stepped back once more. With a casual wave of his hand, a stream of combat energy transformed into a pale energy shield in front of him. Aldas’ sword struck the shield, producing a crisp ringing sound.
The shield shattered, and the combat energy dispersed, but the plants around Du Fan were devastated. Under the impact of the energy, they were torn apart as if hit by a level-13 typhoon, losing their original shape.
After blocking this attack, Aldas said nothing more. He waved his hand again, this time sending a howling gust of wind toward Du Fan.
Du Fan sneered. Without time to counter, he simply stepped forward, leaping into the air. Soon, there were cracking sounds—as several large trees around his original position were cut in half.
Aldas’ sword strike was precise. Although it cut down those trees, it didn’t harm the four girls Du Fan had captured, as if he had already anticipated that Du Fan would dodge.
He quickly rushed to the side of the four girls, grabbed them, and released a stream of combat energy, instantly breaking Du Fan’s wind magic. Then, he grabbed one of them and threw her back. In less than a moment, all four girls were taken back by him.
Though it sounded slow when described, it all happened in the blink of an eye. After retrieving the four girls, Aldas quickly returned to his original position and looked up at Du Fan in the air.

After Du Fan leaped into the air, he casually cast a suspension spell to keep himself from falling. From above, he looked down at Aldas with a cold laugh and said, “Young Master Aldas truly values beauty! But since you’re so rule-breaking, don’t blame me!”
Aldas snorted and said, “What can you do to me?”
Du Fan laughed heartily. With a slap of his left hand, his Phantom Wand appeared in his hand. He quickly recited a series of spells, and soon a flurry of wind blades rushed toward the girls behind Aldas.
Aldas’ expression changed as he leaped into the air. With a swift sword swing, he created a gust of wind to block Du Fan’s blades. There was a loud explosion, and a cluster of bushes was crushed to pieces.
Seizing the advantage, fearing that Du Fan might attack the girls again, Aldas thrust his sword upward and charged at Du Fan once more.
This time, Du Fan didn’t dodge. His previous dodges had been feints, meant to let Aldas succeed. But in a real fight, he wasn’t necessarily afraid of Aldas. As long as he prevented Aldas from getting close, he could hold his own even without using his hidden techniques—let alone the many strange spells he had at his disposal.
Seeing Aldas charging, Du Fan casually threw a magic scroll. Instantly, his body glided backward like a bird through the air. Then, he rapidly waved his wand. The Phantom Wand already shortened spellcasting time and amplified magic power. Coupled with Du Fan’s fast spell recitation, countless small fireballs surged toward Aldas like stars in the sky.
Although Aldas wasn’t afraid of such low-level magic, many small attacks could still overwhelm him. As the dense barrage of fireballs hit him, he felt heat everywhere and had no chance to dodge.
Alldas’ attack faltered. His combat energy spread across his body, forming a translucent dome. When the fireballs struck the dome, wave-like ripples appeared. Aldas felt as if he were in a sea of fire, suffering immensely.

Ordas was furious. He had originally intended to take Du Fan’s life, but instead, Du Fan had turned the situation around against him. Now, he was even forced to retreat by such crude magic—something utterly humiliating. His desire to kill grew even stronger. With a fierce shout, his combat energy surged upward, instantly dispersing the fireballs around him.

This small jungle was certainly not suitable for Du Fan and Ordas to continue fighting. Ordas knew that if Joshua and the others arrived, he would have no chance at all. So, he leaped forward and rushed at Du Fan at full speed.

Du Fan could almost read his thoughts. With a cold laugh, he waved his Phantom Wand, and under the effect of wind magic, he soared rapidly into the air.

Both mages and warriors could only fly freely after reaching the Saint level. Du Fan, having a natural affinity for the wind element, could achieve such speeds by using wind magic. Although Ordas was powerful, he could only rely on his combat energy to fly, so despite his speed, he couldn’t keep up with Du Fan.

As Du Fan rose almost to cloud level with a mere wave of his wand, Ordas was still only halfway up. At such a distance, a warrior could never compete with a mage.

Seeing Ordas closing in, Du Fan sneered and casually snapped his fingers. Several magic scrolls appeared in his hand. With another flick, several bolts of lightning shot toward Ordas.

These were Du Fan’s favorite tactics in battle. Although throwing magic scrolls was costly and extravagant, it didn’t require any of his own strength and could still unleash powerful spells—so why not?

Moreover, other mages had to painstakingly create or buy their magic scrolls, but Du Fan had dozens of them. Though it was costly to use them, he could afford it. After all, without Miss Chenchen, someone else would have to prepare them for him.

Below, Ordas, filled with anger, suddenly saw several bolts of lightning heading toward him, causing his heart to leap in panic.

All this time, whenever he fought Du Fan, Du Fan had always used low-level magic. Even if he occasionally threw a few magic scrolls, it wasn’t anything special. But the moment this spell was cast, Aldas immediately recognized it as the sixth-level lightning magic “Odin’s Hammer.” Under normal circumstances, he could avoid this spell with his superb agility, but in such a situation, with him in mid-air, no agility would help—his only option was to endure it head-on!

But since this magic seemed to go on endlessly, if he tried to endure it…

Although Aldas already had a good idea of Du Fan’s strength, the fact that he could cast so many sixth-level spells in an instant was something only a Holy Archmage could do!

But the Du Fan before him clearly wasn’t a Holy Archmage. So the only possibility was that he had thrown so many identical magic scrolls at once!

Who could have predicted such a thing?

It was already remarkable for an ordinary mage to have a dozen scrolls, but Du Fan had thrown away at least ten just now. Did he really think those magic scrolls were like candied haws on the street, which could be bought in large quantities at will?

For once, Aldas felt the urge to flee in panic. Yet he knew better than anyone that given the speed of lightning magic, no matter how fast he ran, he wouldn’t be able to escape. His only option now was to rely on his own strength to withstand it!

Almost instinctively, Aldas raised his long sword in front of his chest. His combat energy surged forth as if there were no limits, and soon a thick, extremely viscous earth-yellow aura surrounded his entire body—this was the Earth Spirit Combat Energy of the Belinger family, renowned as the best defensive energy on the continent!

Immediately afterward, several bolts of lightning struck the Earth Spirit Combat Energy around Aldas at almost the same time, causing explosions of lightning. Du Fan flicked his fingers in mid-air, casting a few spells when he had time, and simply throwing another magic scroll when he didn’t. He had always been reluctant to use these high-level magic scrolls. Now, by throwing them out like this, even a single “Odin’s Hammer” could trigger dozens of bolts of lightning to strike the aura around Aldas. With hundreds of lightning bolts hitting at once, the entire sky was filled with lightning, as if the end of the world had arrived.

Amidst the lightning, Du Fan laughed heartily and said, “Aldas, who exactly should show mercy now? Can’t you see that?”
