Chapter 006: Jealousy
“Boom—”
Ithela crashed to the ground once again, but unlike the gentle impact before, this one was filled with violence.
It shook its head and got up, filled with sorrow. It was a dragon, just like the other one—so why was its life so lonely?
Seeing Du Fan’s expression, it obediently lay down. Ithela had long lost the will to resist. Defying its master, or even the master’s master, seemed utterly impossible. Even if all those bastards from Dragon Island came, it wouldn’t do such a foolish thing!
Du Fan was very satisfied with its obedience. Suddenly, he mysteriously raised his index finger in a “shh” gesture and whispered, “I’ll be back soon. Stay here and watch carefully. No matter who comes, don’t let them in. If anyone does, I’ll take your life. Do you understand?”
Ithela sneered inwardly. If it weren’t for its powerful master forbidding it from touching even a hair of Du Fan’s, with his level 3 strength, how could he possibly be a match for Ithela? But in reality, Du Fan’s strength was now beyond comprehension—even he himself didn’t know his own level. The fusion of the Divine Origin and Angelic Power had brought about astonishing changes within him. He could feel that even if he did nothing for a day, his strength would continue to soar.
Both the Divine Origin and Angelic Power were things most people could never access in their lifetimes, yet Du Fan possessed both. Whether that was luck or misfortune was unclear.
What was even more remarkable was the battle insights and power usage techniques that Gannon had inadvertently implanted in his mind, along with a vague understanding of the Sacred Realm. By now, Du Fan’s understanding of power far surpassed that of ordinary people.
His true strength was far beyond the apparent level 3. If Ithela had realized this, it was hard to imagine what expression would appear on its highly anthropomorphic face.
Du Fan moved lightly through the flowers, making almost no sound.
Unlike others, the existence of Chenchen was best kept secret. So, while ignoring everyone else, Du Fan placed Chenchen in this rarely visited back garden and issued strict orders: anyone who entered this garden without permission would be killed without mercy.
At this moment, the two major forces had gathered in Modu City. These two cavalry units, no matter where they were placed on Roland Continent, could cause chaos. Under such circumstances, who would dare to disobey Du Fan’s orders?
In this vast garden, only Chenchen lived alone, giving it a somewhat secluded vibe. Yet Du Fan wouldn’t dare think such things. Ever since he learned that the speech magic Chenchen had bestowed upon him was one of the three great secrets of the barbarians, his curiosity about her identity grew even stronger. But since Chenchen never revealed anything, he also had no intention of asking.
Both of them knew that, based solely on that faint connection deep in their souls, neither could truly betray the other. That mysterious bond was, in fact, the heaviest of contracts.
Du Fan’s mind was in turmoil. Suddenly, he remembered Lingsound’s naked body struggling beneath him, and an indescribable emotion surged within him.
The first time he saw Chenchen had been utterly stunning—something he might never forget in his life!
He wasn’t sure what to feel. This mysterious woman was like a layer of mist—ethereal and elusive.
Shaking his head lightly, he realized there were a few questions he needed to ask sooner or later, but definitely not tonight…
A standalone building came into view. He let out a soft sigh and stepped forward slowly. Faint light shone through the windows, along with the sound of water.
Du Fan’s heart tightened suddenly. A bold idea crossed his mind. He drew out his Phantom Wand and slowly recited a spell. As a gust of wind swept through, his body became as light as cotton fluff.
He quickly cast a few more spells to ensure no one could detect his presence. Then, step by step, he approached the wall. After circling it a few times, he finally found the right spot. Slowly, he stretched out his finger and pulled off a brick.
Steam emerged from the hole. Just as Du Fan was about to get closer, he heard a soft sigh. “Is it pretty?” it asked.
Du Fan’s scalp tingled. Turning around, he saw Chenchen in a nightgown, looking at him with a half-smile.
To be caught eavesdropping—was there anything worse in the world? At first, Du Fan didn’t know how to explain himself. He could only sigh and say, “It’s pretty! Very pretty!”
A strange look flashed in Chenchen’s eyes as she laughed and said, “It’s not like I’ve never seen you before. If you want to see, just come and tell me. Would I refuse?”
Du Fan was stunned and momentarily didn’t understand Chenchen’s meaning. He had indeed seen her body before, but hadn’t she always been very shy? Why was she so bold today?
After a while, Du Fan finally sighed softly and said, “It’s been a long time!”
Chenchen nodded. “Indeed, it’s been a long time. What do you want to talk to me about? Come in and sit…”
Du Fan nodded and followed Chenchen into the house, sitting down gently on the sofa.
He stared at the woman before him. Although he had met countless stunning beauties over the years, none of them could compare to her. It wasn’t that they lacked beauty, but rather they lacked a certain aura. In front of this woman, even the most beautiful ones were nothing more than Cinderellas, while only she was the true queen.
Yet Du Fan also knew that she wasn’t a queen—she was just like him, a prisoner of the Holy Church. The difference was that she had already been imprisoned, while he hadn’t yet.
The two stared at each other in silence for a moment.
Suddenly, Du Fan smiled lightly and said, “Since we met, it’s been so long since we’ve been apart. Shouldn’t we hug to celebrate our reunion?”
Chenchen replied indifferently, “Would you dare?”
Du Fan didn’t answer. Perhaps he really didn’t dare. Today’s Chenchen seemed incredibly strange to her, yet she couldn’t pinpoint what was odd about her.
Unfortunately, even the extremely intelligent Du Fan forgot one thing: women are naturally jealous creatures. Whether they realize it or not, when they feel jealous, they will definitely show it—nothing more, nothing less.
Suddenly, Chenchen stood up. She walked over to Du Fan and slowly bent down. A hug that lasted less than a second left him puzzled.
After that, Chenchen smiled faintly. She sat back down, glanced at Du Fan in surprise, and then suddenly said, “I didn’t expect that after being apart for some time, your strength has improved so much. Let me see… Level 5? Level 6? Level 7?… Du Fan, why has your strength become so strange? Have you learned to hide your aura?”
Du Fan sighed and said, “It’s not that I want to hide my strength; I have to. Someone who has only been learning combat energy for less than half a year has already reached level five. Do you understand what that means? Level five—this is a level that many people can’t reach even in their entire lives. Even so-called geniuses can’t achieve it without years of hard training. I, Du Fan, just had a bit too much luck… That’s all.”
Chenchen smiled faintly and said, “It seems your trip to the barbarians yielded quite a few gains!”
Du Fan rolled his eyes irritably and said, “I can’t believe that with Isella’s personality, she still hasn’t told you everything. I didn’t come to see you today for any other reason—just to ask you, Chenchen. I can tell you’ve existed for countless times longer than I have. In all this time, have you ever seen gods?”
Chenchen’s expression darkened. “Maybe I have, but what’s the point?”
“None,” Du Fan said calmly. “I just want to know—whether it was the gods who arranged everything, from going to the barbarians, entering the Temple of Demigods, to everything that’s happened so far, or if it was just chance. But now that I think about it, whether it was or wasn’t no longer matters at all…”
“Is that so?” Chenchen lowered her head and pondered for a moment. “You’ll find the answer to this question sooner or later.”
Du Fan laughed heartily. “Alright, let’s not talk about this. Although I’ve seen so-called angels, with my current strength, how could I even aspire to such things? I still haven’t resolved my own problems—why worry about others? I came to see you today for another matter. I think maybe only you can handle it… Of course, that is, if your strength has recovered by now…”
“What matter?”
“I need you to help me kill someone.” Du Fan’s expression suddenly turned cold. “And it must be a one-shot kill—no chance for them to resist at all.”
“Who?”
Du Fan sneered. “For now, I don’t know who it is… But as long as I want to kill Aldas, there must be such a person. If Aldas dares to attack me, surely the Belinger family isn’t unprepared?”
